Just bought this for my wife as she wanted a great phone that wasnât a clamshell design. Got it from FoneShop.com as I was impressed with their service when I bought the Sharp from them. Full of features, Bluetooth, FM, MP3, memory card, video and loudspeaker. A full house. Looks great too.
A great little phone
Just received this from the guys at foneshop.com and it rocks. Full of features, Bluetooth, FM, MP3, memory card, video and loudspeaker. A full house - I think this is the best phone Nokia have produced in ages and it's the one I've been waiting for. Looks great too - sleek black shell, easy navigation, good volume and signal strength.
Shame on Nokia
I've been a Nokia user for almost ten years. Until this past summer, 6230 was Nokia's best phone on the market-other than communicator. The meaning of the "best" depends on consumer's expectations for sure. In my opinion, 6230 is not a great phone. A great Nokia would've had the best(or close to best) screen display&size&resolution, very good audio output, a much better joystik button (a lot of users have complained already about the menu button), would've had the best mp3 player (unfortunately, SE and Moto are better on that), and the most important part; battery. So far, Nokia's fallen behind moto,se, and samsung in talk&stand-by time. This is another important thing Nokia needs to improve if they want their customers and market back from SE and others.
On the other side, Nokia always had the best menu,contact list and Nokia's camera is the best among all.6230 uses mmc card which you can get 512MB in to your phone and this is great to me.
Bluetooth, fm player, camera, ir, expansion slot, mp3 player, EDGE(only if you really are using,otherwise who cares) are common in different brands many phones now as of 12-26-04. I, however, really want to mention, the biggest mistake on this phone is the tiny screen with small resolution backed off many many consumers buying from it. Good luck Nokia designers, you need it. ~~An old and loyal Nokia user~~
4 times failure
After having owned 6 various models of Nokia phones over the years I decided to buy a 6230. I've had 4 of these now and each of them has exhibited the same problem.
Try this:-
At about 2100hrs - 2200hrs set your alarm to ring the next day at 0600hrs and switch the phone off. Page 66 of the manual informs you that the alarm will sound and promt you to swith the phone on. All of you late risers have no fear, under these conditions the ALARM WILL NOT SOUND and you can continue to sleep and let nature take its course.I suggest that those of you who need to be up for an early appointment use another alarm.
The alarm will sound however if you leave the phone switched on over night (ever been woken at 0230hrs by a wrong number?) or about 2 times in 5 if you set it for 0800hrs or later, bizarre!! If you set the phone at say 0800hrs for 1600hrs or 1700hrs and then switch it off, the alarm will sound about 4 times in 5. It only seems to fail every time if you set it at night to ring in the morning and switch it off ,which is how many people are likely to want to use it.
IN SHORT THIS MODEL IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
You may think that this is just a minor glitch but its your doller,pound or euro that Nokia is using to BETA test this phone.
This isn't the only problem I've had with the 4 HANDSETS I've had either :-
1st Alarm failed as described above
2nd Same alarm problem and dark display
3rd Same alarm problem and failed vibrate motor
4th Same alarm problem and intermittent bluetooth connectability
I've given the phone a 2 rating as it does make calls, has a very good mp3 player and comes with some nice PC connection software. The camera is not bad but the video capture is limited and video play back quality is really very poor so say the least.
After being a Nokia advocate for the last 5 years I am finally moving on and getting a Sony Ericsson K700i.
Nokia phones may still be pretty good BUT NOT THIS MODEL.
The ups and the downs: from Razr to 6230b
Like any informed cell phone shopper I did my research and the vast majority of reviews for this phone are between favorable and great. I really want to love this phone, I really do.... but I just can't.
For a $200 I cannot mirror the opinions of so many others. Maybe the fact that I sold a perfectly fine Razr for this phone, but I find myself wanting the Razr back more every day. The isn't *horrible* it just doesn't live up to all the hype surrounding it.

CONS:
- Signal bounces all over the place. I can sit the phone on my desk and the signal will bounce from 1 bar to a full 7 back down to 3 up to 6 down to 1 back to 6. It's all over the place, this was never a problem with my Razr.
- Battery life is HORRIBLE. Man, this is the worst I've ever seen, I once had a 3220 and it was 20x better. I talk about 20-40 minutes a day with no camera use or web surfing or anything like that, and a full battery lasts me about 2 days before it's down to 2 out of 7 bars battery power. At least it charges FAST, that's a plus.
- Ringer volume could be a little louder. I swear the 3220 ringers could wake the dead. volume is marginal, not great, but loud enough.
- Call clarity is not great either. All these people who claim "crystal clear" reception must not have had a Razr yet. It's clear enough, but I still hear of hissing noises and sounds during a call. This was NEVER the case with the Razr as I would classify the clarity on it as absolutely perfect.
PROS:
- Size! This phone is very small, much smaller then the pictures make it out to be. It fits nicely into your hand and against your face, although the Razr does too and feels better in your hand. Very well built, too.
- Menu speed. Very fast & speedy!
- The screen is good sized for the phone. Clear, bright colors. The screen is about 1/3 the size of the total phone face.
Good but not great
This phone has lots of features, but what really made alot of the features drag is the tiny screen. 128x128? This is the lowest resolution phone screen ive ever had. I guess all the people that like this phone never had a higher quality LCD before. Video played fairly smoothly but the low resolution makes it look awful and the 1:1 ratio means that you have to crop or distort your movies before you upload to the phone. My SMT5600, which i got for just a little more, blows this phone away. The 6230 does have a good sounding speakerphone and lots of aftermarket accessories, but there were lots of small things that bothered me. The keypad makes louder clicks, the camera is grainier compared to my SMT5600, no backlight settings, , and the IR doesnt stay on(only turns on for a short time when you tell it to). I do like how the 6230 has a easy to use menu, but for experienced users, the phone doesnt have many advanced options for some things like the video and mp3 player. I would also like to have a diffrent MP3 ringtone for each contact, but all nokias assign ringtones to groups instead of individials. Overall, this would make a great upgrade from a low-end phone for talking and basic multimedia, but if you want to impress people, youre only going to amaze them on how small the screen is. So for me, the Nokia 6230 is just a spare phone next to my SMT5600.
the best phone
this was the best phone i have ever owned.i usede to own a sonyericson z500a.the phone had video,but not that great.the nokia that i got two days ago (nokia 6230).

Tiny screen Small when compared to Moto's E398 or SonyEriccson's K700 MMC cannot be hotplug, Casing not dust-proof, dust gets behind the screen Navigation key too sensitive Battery cover vey stiff, - Battery Life, especially when using MP3 player - PC Suite (using Bluetooth) will communicate with the phone after startup but will stop working if you try and go back to it after a while - PC Suite Crashes - Took a long time to get Sync over Bluetooth working but all other stuff was easy to setup - I think it killed Outlook, Packaged headset - disappointing, Need to take out battery to access MMC, it is difficult to use the menu buttom if you have big fingers.
