Pretty Darn Good

May 4, 2008 by sizroch

My wife has the 8830 and has been pleased. This is my first BB and I have to say, pretty awesome. Without getting too detailed, here are my thoughts:

- As a phone - pretty good.

- Phone with Blue tooth paired with an H700 - seems to work fine.

- Speaker Phone - again, seems competent.

- Calendar - not bad although not perfect. I have Sunbird sync'd with my BB and it's pretty awesome. I used Google's Calendar as the middle ware. I've blogged the solution here if anyone cares to read about it: http://calendarsync.blogspot.com/

- Email - typical BB e-mail; competent but not quite the iPhone's glitz.

- Browser - again, typical BB quality which in the browser world is less than desirable.

- Camera - not Canon quality but what phone is? It is competent.

- Bluetooth - antiquated when attempting to pair with other bluetooth phones for exchanging data.

Final thoughts - The BB Curve is very good. I like it better than the 8830 although the Curve does not support Wi-Fi as its bigger counterpart does. The size is perfect for anyone with small to normal size hands. Large handed individuals may find the keys a little tight. BlackBerry really should upgrade some of its application components especially in the area of phonebook, speed-dials, calendar, camera, and bluetooth. These apps in particular seem very dated compared to what's found on most typical cellphones. RIM deserves credit for unleashing several very good devices since and including the 8703e. They now need to turn their attention to the operating system and corresponding apps. Apple's iPhone has set the new standard and BB needs to pay attention. MS will never get it; Windows Mobile is a disaster and only getting worse regarding performance. The longer you own one of their devices, the slower the device becomes - sound familiar? MS should get out of the operating system business and stick to app building only.

Review after a week

May 10, 2008 by ferndog

Ok, I was one of the first to get this phone. Was it worth the wait? You bet it was. To be short and brief, this phone for me is almost perfect! Yeah, it's not the Iphone with the wow factor but as a phone with plenty of extras, it's hard to beat. I find it rediculous on some reviews over at Howards where some guy says the keyboard sucks and that the browser was worse then the Touch. The 8330 browser is just fine and I don't even have EVDO. CNN and MSNBC load up plenty quick for me and I can navigate easily. Plus, the browser plays Youtubes nicely. On a sad note, with this phone being so good, I have nothing to look forward to for quite some time. Being very serious on this, this phone has taken my thirst for the Jesus phone away. I won't list pro's and con's as they are a waste of space. We all know what this phone is capable of. For those that are coming from the Voyager or Glyde or any dumbphone...remember, this phone is not a toy. It's a phone first and has most of everything else as extras.

A great phone

I am simply amazed at all this phone can do. I have had the phone for all most a month now, and very pleased with purchasing it. I have to admit, this is my first time buying a 'smart phone'. But I'm not easy to please, and this phone has not let me down at all. I did try the Pearl first, for a couple of weeks. I returned it due to typing with it was a nightmare. Aside from all the extras this phone can do. The biggest thing this phone does well, is sound quality. I have Alltel for a carrier in the Midwest. And I am getting to the age where my hearing is less than perfect. This phone is very clear, and as loud as anyone would need. I have paired my phone with the Motorola 670 headset for hands free driving. Other things that are impressive would be long battery life, great screen resolution, personal settings options. To list any cons, I honestly can't think of any. Maybe it could be a little more narrow like the Pearl. But then it would be hard to type. So the size really isn't an issue. I am impressed with camera quality too, and the fact that it has a flash. You can take several pictures and not worry about having a dead battery. The phone also has 'smart features' also. Like auto dim, so you don't get blinded operating it at night. To sum it up, I am very pleased, and I would purchase this phone again.

Finanlly Everything One Needs!

May 19, 2008 by vichurch

I've had the I-Phone, Tilt, Samsung i-760 and the HTC Touch (Verizon) in the last 6 months trying to find something that handles business and personal needs. This is it! The email works great, I can send and receive pictures and video and I can view video on Youtube. This phone is great. Everything you need I can't wait to see what RIM will do with the Thunder (touch screen blackberry set to come third quarter).

Trust you love love this phone!!!

Best phone ever

I have been with verizon scince 1995. I have used verizon best phones and by far this this is the real deal!

There are a few minor software glitches, but not that bad, to talk about.

Pros: phone ringers, hands free , call quality , lots of wallpapers .

Importantly , you could customize the phone to suit your needs. I have never had a phone that you could setup , when in your case it vibrates and out of the case it rings!! Or , when you put the phone in a case it automaticly locks the keys function so it wont accidentally dial out.

Cons: none so far.

Best Ever!!!!

I can't say one negative thing about this phone. It has to be the best phone ever made!

Best Phone I've Owned From Verizon to Date!

Okay this is going to be a short and simple review because there is barely anything to say bad about this phone. It's got a great camera, get operating system, navigation, awesome keyboard for texting, and great 3rd party applications to make the phone work even better.

Some applications I would recommend are JiveTalk, Ascendo Money, and a couple others. The only thing I think the BlackBerry needs is the iPhone / Treo FULL style threaded text messaging. It has threaded messaging to an extent, but not all the way to the point of the iPhone.

Battery life is amazing, overall, rate the phone 5/5 no questions asked. Great speakerphone, has everything you could possibly need from a phone. I'd take it over the Voyager and iPhone any day of the week!
