LG CU500
Average Ratings
poorly designed
One of the worst designed cell phones.
1. turn off speaker phone to turn it on, vise versa.
2. turn on speaker phone (turn it off) and close the case to expose the speaker, and it disconnects!
3. external display turns off - is my cell phone on? looks like it is off, let me take it out and open it to see if it is on or off!
4. Add multiple numbers to a name (home, mobile, work) and designate 2nd number (mobile, home) but icons are identical, which is which??? And don't even think of trying to designate the original number - can't do it.
5. NINE step process to silent the phone (from maxium level 7) - and can't hold down the button to continue changing levels - 9 pushes to silent the phone, and nine pushes to unsilent and bring it up to full volume
6. No voice dialing, a convenient although not perfect feature. Most LG's have it, but they deleted it on this high dollar phone. Course you can pay an extra $5 to Cingular to add this feature, which is normally on the LG and most phones.
7. Camera lens is angled up so difficult to aim the camera.
8. User manual is difficult to understand and does not address all the features, such as multiple numbers. Hey guy just figure it out, what do you think this is, a manual???
And that is just after less then 1 day of use. What else will I find wrong with this phone???? Yet Cingular dropped what appears to be better designed LG Phones, so I have good reception, (verizon cut reception in suburban Phila area) but a lousy phone. And because of the lack of standardization, I find few phones will work with my two expensive 2.5 mm plug head sets.
LG should redesign this phone, lots of bugs and inconveniences (aren't cell phone supposed to be convenient?) Very poor design.
If you want a cell phone with MP3, this might be a consideration, assuming you can put up with the poor design. But then again, how poorly is the MP3 Player designed? I will not spend money to find out.
Best Phone of 2006
This phone is the best clamshell CINGULAR phone right now. Everything you want except flash in it's camera, but I think you can live with that ;)

NOT GOOD
I got the LG CU500 had it for about 2 weeks the battery went dead every day even when I didn't use it. I took it back to Wal mart to replace the battery but I had to get another phone. The LG CU 500 I got was alittle different AT&T had there name on the front of it. It work about 6 hours and locked up. The only way I could turn it off was take the battery out. Took it back and Wal Mart tryed five more that were still in the box and they finally gave up. None of the LGCU500 phones would work ( of the new ones ) so I had to take a different phone or get a refund on the LG. I needed a phone so I had to take a different brand. The 1st LG CU500 was not bad except the battery was bad but the new ones with LGCU500v on them didn't work at all.
from one phone freak to another
ok...so I looked on line when I was getting a new phone...what do I find...the CU500. So when my birthday came, I got it as a present from my parents. And whaen my mom and sister got their new phones, my mom got the CU500, too and my sister got a samsung and was mad at it the day she got it (she gets upset really easily) and she gets the CU500, too! I was mad because I wanted to have my own individual phone. Morale of the story...I guess I have really good taste in buying phones
LG CU500
First I had a Nokia Bar-style phone, then upgraded to a Motorola V220, now have the LG CU500. Its the best phone I've owned but I'm beginning to see some quirks. I mainly use it for phone and text messaging, but hope to expand on all its capabilities. Got a Samsung Bluetooth earpiece which works fine with it, easy to set up, but still learning some of the nuances of the devices.
Bought a Kingston 1Gb Micro SD Card which works fine in my PDA and in computers but not the phone. Went to Cingular store and they plugged in one of their SanDisk 1 or 2 Gb Micro SD Cards and the phone recognized it fine. Have ordered a SanDisk 1Gb Transflash Micro SD Card which is apparently the kind Cingular uses and they charge about 2-3x the price for.
I have Future Dial Software for syncing phone and computer and making ring-tones, etc. They don't support the LG CU500, yet, if ever.
Video is limited to 20sec recordings at a time as best I can tell, but camera and video seem adequate.
Appears from the serial numbers inside that it was manufactured in 2004 and apparently that version doesn't allow firmware updates, but newer versions do.
Seems the Koreans have the best technology and keep it to themselves, maybe as a test market, then dump their older stuff on other markets.
One of my daughters taught English over in Korea for a year on a Fulbright Scholarship and when I went to visit was very impressed by their phones, etc. They can use them like we do Debit Cards.
Overall a great phone, feels like a real phone, not a toy; battery not a great as my other phones which I'd charge about once a week, but then the CU500 does lots more. Reception is fine, not complaints, as good as I've heard.
Wait 6 months to a year and get the newer model (assuming they continue it) and more peripheral options, software and gadgets to attach should be to market.
Any ideas on where to get some good software for this phone?
Great fast phone
Overall, this is a great phone for teens and powerhouse users.
Pros: HSDPA/UMTS are amazingly fast, Large & Bright external screen with animated music equalizer, external music controls, swiveling 1.3 MP Digital Camera, Micro SD slot, Live TV capable, standard 2.5mm headset jack, Very thin for a 3G phone.
Cons: Internal screen is low res (176x220)& only supports 65k colors, Camera has no flash, like on it's little brother, the CU320; Memory card slot is impossible to get to, no USB cable included, no headset included.
I have had many phones including the Motorola 3G RAZR V3x, the SE 3G K800i, Nokia N80, and the SE P910a, out of all the phones, this is the fastest of them all. I have also subscribed to the MobiTV service and it is very handy to be able to watch your favorite TV show while not near a TV.
The thin form factor, 3G HSDPA/UMTS, and swiveling camera of the phone really polishes the phone out from other "RAZR look-alikes", and sets it in front of the crowd.
I would strongly recommend this phone to anybody who wants a great music phone, camera, mobile TV, and powerhouse into one phone for a very low price.
I Love It!!!
LG CU500 GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was pretty excited to get the new LG CU500 for X-mas from my wife...how quickly the excitment faded...
The first LG CU500 had a bad battery; was dying after 20 minutes of talk time; so I returned it and expected better from the second phone...I was wrong.
The second phone was received on Saturday...later that evening the phone turned itself off and since then has not turned back on yet (and yes this was with a full working battery...so the battery ISNT dead)
PROS: From the little bit I did explore; features looked great
CONS: HORRIBLE battery life
Phone turns itself off on a regular basis
A few dropped calls (3 out of 10)
Overall...I DO NOT RECCOMEND this phone...I'm taking this second one back and possibly paying the fee to cancel my Cingular contract!
GREAT PHONE.....a few cons

Good games (could be better)

CONs:
Acsending ringtone (starts very soft, then gradually grows louder)
Memory chip is NOT included (for the MP3)
No Blue Tooth Handset (but you can buy
another type of headset. (Not Moto)
OVERALL:
