Motorola V220

Great little entry level clamshell
I've no complaints about my pone. First thing is to acknowledge that this is an entry level phone.
Pros: good reception, loud ringer, VGA camera, good battery life, Mobile Phone Tools, small phone, easy to push/find buttons, & Quad-Band GSM.
Cons: Moto phone book. I wish Moto would get on board with more than a single entry per name (like Nokia).
Would recommend as an entry level clam. I think alot of people here are actually providing negative reviews about their coverage/service. I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this phone after reading some of the reviews here. But I did it anyways and I love it. $30 with 2 yr contract w/ Cingular.
Perfectly adequate
This phone gives you a lot of bang for your buck.
Pros:
- Good size, relatively it is very small
- Speaker phone feature, it works well
- Mp3 ring tones, this is a great feature
- Depending on your service provider, this has really great reception
- Takes good little snapshots if you have proper lighting, and the online album is very handy and user-friendly
- Convenient buttons and layout
- Very classy looking
- Itâs inexpensive (initially)
Cons:
- Camera could take better quality pictures
- Main display is a little bit hard to see in the light
- You have to pay for everything, and itâs all pretty expensive. Five dollars for a game is too much
A lot of people are reviewing their poor service provider, not the phone itself, and the phone itself is great. I would recommend this phone to anybody looking for something in this price range.
Good Bang For The Buck!
I recieved this phone free through Cingular (so, obviously price was not an issue!). My account was originally with AT&T and I was given a Nokia 2260. I had the option to switch to a Cingular plan (after their merger) and get the V220 for free. The Nokia was 'utilitarian' at best. I know the V220 is considered an entry level flip/camera phone, but the features have had me smiling! I am no cell phone fanatic.....but I LOVE my computer! The mini-usb connection on the V220 has kept me busy! (note: the cable/software are sold seperate) As I said...I am moving up to this phone from a 'basic' handset, so I am obviously impressed. However, this phone does have obvious flaws, even for the novice cell user. The LCD screen is not the best, the resolution and clarity leave a little to be desired. The volume of the ringer and placement of the speaker are mediocre...leave this phone in the next room and you WILL miss a call. My old Nokia let me know when someone was calling!! Reception is also lacking. My old and discontinued Nokia had much better reception and sound quality. BUT...on the plus side...this phone does everything! Not particularly well, but the features are more than modest! The V220 is a good example of the saying "jack of all trades, master of none". It does it all, but not impressingly well. My overall impression is good, though. Camera, speakerphone, voice dialing, web capable, java enabled, color display, games, polyphonic/mp3 ringtones, and the list goes on..... If your current phone has a monotone display and you are an 'entry level' cell user, you will be impressed with this tiny wonder! I'd reccomend a good carrying case as a first accessory, though. The plastic case seems (and actually is) brittle and scratch prone. If you can get it free (or cheap) through your carrier.....GET it!
OK Phone/Worse Carrier
This is the worst phone I have ever owned. From day one I had several problems from dropped calls to the phone freezing to the screen turning into some kind of mosiac mess. I then took it back to Cingular and they tried to tell me the phone was fine and would not let me exchange it. Fine! I called CS and they sent me a new one.
Even more problems. Even when I had full service, i would lose calls and half the time it would not connect.
I have since talked to many people with Cingular who have the same problem. Dropping calls, losing signal...i mean i know it's wireless, but when you have a full signal, you should be fine.
They might be the 2nd largest in network size, but they definitly fall short on network quality. I'm going back to Verizon Wireless.
V22 Problems
I have owned this phone for well... not that long. i had to get my original one replaced because somehow i got water in it, and when i sent it to get "repaired" it came back and would not work. Very little i liked, definitely not worth the money, was not really worth being free either. Juring a very important math test, room is dead silent, you could hear *bleep* as my arm hits those way to sensitive side buttons. The only good part is that i found a very nice cell phone business that replaced mine for free.
Pro's:
-lightweight
-fits in hand alright
Con's:
-Camera is horrible (Even when "zooming in" the picture is worse.
-Battery is alright for few weeks, but once on all the time, doesn't last more than a day tops.
-Scratches easily
-Water can easily get in and pretty much kill it
-Cannot see screen in sunlight
-drops calls
-when on second line, or conference, cuts out, and barley able to hear either person
-side/sound buttons extremely sensitive
-back battery plate comes off randomly
-mine restarts at random times. not sure if it is just me.
So if you think that you would like this phone then you know that it is not worth the money. don't buy it, save your money, or buy a better one.
*Decent*--But Barely...
Nearly my entire close family owns the same phone--the V220--and we're all displeased about it. On one, the camera broke (far too easily), and on another the case was scratched simply by using the belt clip. In my opinion, this is about as low as a company can get.
Motorola has certainly made better phones before, and are making some nice ones now, like the V551 and the V3, but the V220 is horrible, even deplorable.
Sure, it works now as an "entry-level camera phone", but it basically sucks, if you pardon me.
PROs:
-Compact, but... (see CONs for more)
-It has a camera, but... (again, see CONs)
-The Caller ID is nice and bright (I ain't writing it again)
-Intuitive menus...
-It allows MP3 ringtones...
CONs
-It's TOO small, easy to lose track of.
-The screen is too small to make use of the camera.
-Sometimes the Caller ID is difficult to read without first opening the phone for the backlight. Also, wby didn't Motorola opt for a lighter text on a darker background?
-Sometimes those "intuitive" menus are hard to search.
-MP3 ringtones are nice, but the outside speaker is on the BACK of the phone, so if you put the phone face up on certain surfaces, you will miss a call if you are in another room.
If you can afford this phone, you could certainly afford a better one, such as Sony Ericsson's Z500a or a comparable Nokia (if one exists).
Much Better Then The T720.
I just got the V220 almost a week ago. I didn't really want a camera phone, but I really did need one with speaker phone. With the wonderful and large selection of speakerphones with Rogers (a whopping 2: this and the V300.), I took the V220 because it was cheaper and I didn't want to sign a 3 year contract to get the V300 cheaper. And because I need a speaker phone. I took a few pics with it after I got it, and the screen is really small, but the most of the pics I've taken have turned out pretty decent. It's got most of the same features as the T720, so it didn't take long to get used to it. A lot of people complain about camera phones and how bad the camera resolution is, but in all fairness, cell phones weren't made to take pictures anyway, it's just a bonus. If you want a good camera, get an actual camera. I honestly have no problem with the camera, blurry or not because like I said, a camera in the phone is just a bonus. Same with the web browsers on phones.
Anyway. I'm still just getting used to the end key on the left side of the phone. The speaker phone works great, the ring tones are really loud...unlike the T720. Even level 3 is loud enough to wake me up. The ring tones sound a lot better and clearer, enough that you actually know what the ring tone is. I love my Inspector Gadget ring tone. I actually heard it ring while I was in the mall for a change. So far I'm glad I got this phone because it's a great improvement from the T720. All in all, the only complaint I have is the first week of battery life which always sucks when you first get it, and the small screen
V220
A few of my friends have the motorola V220. They find that this phone is a very nice phone. So I got it. Between my friends and these reviews, I really got some helpful info on the phone. I do not regret my purchase. The only thing in my opinion wrong with the phone is that the camera is a little blurry. But, overall, a high-quality phone.
Awesome Phone
This phone was offered to us by Cingular as an upgrade and I have to say that my husband and I both think this is an awesome phone. We switched to the V220 from the T720 and although the screen is smaller in size, the font is much bigger and clearer on the V220. I have ready many many reviews on this particular phone before deciding to upgrade and well I am glad I did not listen to some of the reviews I read. I read somewhere that you cannot set the contrast on the phone. That is incorrect!! You can adjust the contrast on both the phone and the camera. It is small, compact and just plain cute! There are so many more accessories available for this phone. As for the cons.... I honestly cannot think of any!!!! We strongly recommend this phone to anyone looking!
Motorola V220: Ups & Downs.....
I like this phone because it's small & has awesome sound quality on the ringtones. I just wish this phone had more memory! My cousin has the V400 & I could swear his phone has more memory than mine.
Otherwise it's a cool phone.... easy to use..... but Cingular made a crappy holster for this phone. I used to have a Motorola V720 & the phone just snapped into place in my other holster. The V220 pops out so easily on the holster for this phone.
