Samsung SCH-A670
Average Ratings
Top Notch Phone
I'd give this phone a very high rating. It is small and compact, and very slick looking. Inside and outside displays are both very sharp and nice.
Pro's
-Great camera that takes very clear and nice pictures
-Neat "nature" themed menu
-Sharp displays
-Outer color display
-Small size
-Easy to use and function through
Cons
-Feels sturdy, but at the same time the phone feels like glass, like it would break
-Ringtones that come with the phone aren't the best, but solve that by downloading some.
All in all, this phone is great. It has a cheap price with many nice features.
SamsUng A670, not for pervs.
Working at a cell phone store i hear my fair share of complaints about phones so i know what to look for. This phone has pretty much a phone needs to have. I will just list some pros and cons. Con's first.
CONS!
- Can't shut off shtter sound (hence review title). For most of us this SHOULDN'T matter but i don't know what your hobbies are so i just thought i would mention it. I don't find it to be that big of a con, but here it is. take it as you will.
- Menus and screens are really weird. Its not that the menus are bad, i just don't understand why they were made the way they were. If you want icons rather than a list for your main menu you will not find this as a problem most of the time. When main menu is in list it shows a "nature" picture on the top half of the screen. One is a butterfly, the other a flower, etc. I personally could do without this. Also, the "message sending" screen has a flower. what the heck?!
- Cannot change colors. Most phones have a certain # of color palattes you can choose, this phone is the way it is and thats it.
PROS
- Midwest Wireless!
- Durrable
- Great quality camera and okay video. The video is choppy but come on, its video from a phone. phones arent suposed to take video so don't be critical of it.
- everything that isn't a con is a pro, you do the math.
Great for talking and listening. But that's about it.
PROs
*small and attractive
*sturdy, quality feel
*AWESOME camera- very clear pics that are much better than on any of my friends' camera phones
*easy to text message
*great reception both ways, very clear
CONs
*camera takes a bit longer to load than on most phones
*NOT trimode- have lost signal driving from houston to austin, possibly for this reason
*no speakerphone
*preloaded ringtones are CRAP, making get-it-now a necessity
*ringing volume not loud enough, i constantly miss calls
*to add to this, when u turn the ringer volume all the way up, downloaded ringtones sound distorted!
*no vibrate AND ring- grrr
*cannot see EITHER screen well in the light
*can TAKE video, but cannot send or recieve video
*voicedialing is quirky and takes too many commands to use it.. plus that creepy phone voice sounds demonic
*i hear my voice echo very rarely.. dont know if its the phone or verizon service. same thing happened with my other samsung
if you want a cute phone with good reception and dont care about extra features or fun ringtones.. i highly recommend this one. otherwise, get something more high tech.
Alright Phone...Want the A890, though...
I've had this phone for about 5 months now, and it's alright. I got it when it first came out and it had some major problems, at least in my eyes. If you got a call, it would tell you that it was a call waiting call and that you missed it, even if you were talking to the person. it was really annoying. also, i LOVE text messaging and when i bought it, i asked if it had MMS and EMS (which means you can send animations in your texts and they can be longer than 160 characters) and i was told yes. in fact, it says that on this website, too. well, that's not true. you cannot send animations or long texts. i know this doesn't sound like a big deal to most, but i'm in a long distance relationship and this is the main means of communication for me and my boyfriend. also, the ringtones are really quiet and there is no vibrate and ring option. it vibrates, and then rings, which annoys me. also, the headset jack covering is very difficult to remove...and i have fingernails, so i can see how hard it must be for the male owners. however, i just used my insurance for this phone because i ran it over with my truck (long story) and the new one i got had some of these bugs worked out. the headphone jack now has a space between it and the phone and i no longer get "missed calls" right after i've talked to the person. so...in conclusion:
Pros:
beautiful, bright screen
changeable outer faceplates
cool downloadable ringtones
gorgeous downloadable wallpapers
good strong feel
very bright backlit keys
Cons:
no changeable outer lcd
quiet ringers
no vibe and ring options
no MMS/EMS
All in all, a good phone...but i'm really thinking about paying the full price and getting the new A890...

HORRIBLE PHONE!!
Pro's
-takes very good pictures when cell phone is opened (only!)
-has nice graphics and colors when phone is opened
-fits nicely in your hand
-feels very solid and durable
-very easy to type a text message
Con's
-bad camera quality when phone is closed
-horrible choice of ringers
-very small amount of ringers to choose from
-low quality sound of the ringers
-very low sensation of vibration
-pictures come out horrible on Picture ID
-no ID ringer for text messages (i'm quite used to it becasue i had it on my old cell phone so apperently this is a big CON for me since i'm very used to who sent me a message without even looking at my phone)
-the envelope symbol is quite confusing you cant tell if you have a text message or a voicemail or have both of them
-bad position of camera (ONLY if you want to take pictures of yourself)
-very limited number of picture storage
-VERY HARD to see anything on the phone when it is closed
-phone blacks out on the screen during your conversation (you have to press a button or key to light it up to see how long you have been talking to someone...etc)
-numbers the order of people you put in your phonebook (for example i dont want people to be going through my phone book and find out i put as #28 if thats my boyfriend or best friend!)
-text messages font is huge!!
-no vibration for voicemail if you still want to have a ringer on
-takes so slow to send a text message
i have a lot more Con's to write about this phone but i'm going to write a whole page so i'm not planning to but overall im VERY dissapointed with this phone i had it for a for a few days now and i cant wait to get rid of it so i can get an LG7000. My girlfriend has an LG4400 and that phone is incredible except for the fact it has no camera..the ringers and very loud and sharp on it and has ID on it (text messages,ringers..), the phone is INCREDIBLE! exactly what you would want in a phone too bad no camera there or i would have got that instead of this junkie phone!!
Excellent Phone
After owning the Audiovox CDM-8900 for almost nine months I decided to upgrade to the Samsung SCH-A670. It is a much better phone and I am very happy with it so far. I was considering getting the LG VX7000, but decided to go with this one because it is smaller and less expensive with basically the same features, except no Mobile Web 2.0 and that you can't send videos. I'm still in my 15-day trial period, however I see no reason to return this phone. I like how this phone's camera, while the same resolution as my old Audiovox (640x480 VGA), seems to be higher quality. The video capture is cool, except it's not very useful because you can't send videos. It has a small flash, which can also be used as a video light. The external color display is very nice and the internal display is very high quality. One of my favorite things about this phone is the speaker-independent voice dial. It works very well, even in noisy areas. My old Audiovox had two features that are not on this phone, a speakerphone and analog (Tri-mode). I remember my old Audiovox almost never went on analog, and I didn't consider it a very important feature when looking for a new phone. I really would've liked a speakerphone on this phone, but I decided that I could live without it. If you absolutely need speakerphone and/or analog, go with the Audiovox CDM-8910 (The 8900 is discontinued), but be prepared to own a poor-quality phone. I haven't used an Audiovox CDM-8910, so I don't know what kind of quality it is, but I know that the 8900 seems flimsy and cheap, and that this Samsung is much higher quality. Here is a list of Pros/Cons:
Pros:
- Small and sleek.
- Nice reception/voice quality.
- High-quality camera w/flash.
- Video capture.
- External color display.
- Speaker independent voice dial.
Cons:
- No speakerphone.
- No analog.
- Can't send videos.
Great Quality Phone
Bought this phone after switching from Cingular. So far so good, but here are the Pros and Cons
PROS:
Nice Display
Nice Size
Bright Keypad
Great ear volume
Great Camera with Flash (Works great in really dark situations)
Ok Video Camera
Lots and Lots of Memory
Good construction
Outside Picture Caller ID (Nice Quality pics)
CONS:
Can't send video messages
Wish it was tri-mode
Ringer volume could be louder
Corny Pre-loaded Ringtones
Wish it had a speakerphone
All in all, this is a great phone. Lots and lots of features and a nice design. Good for teens and adults who don't need all the fancy bluetooth or infrared capabilities. Although I wish this phone was Tri-Mode, it has good reception (Verizon, South FL.) and very good sound quality. At a cheap price, this phone makes a great bargain.
Pretty good little phone but not perfect
I've never had a color phone or a flip phone before, just big and bulky Nokias so this is a major step up for me. There are some drawbacks, however. Overall, I really like it.
Pros:
- Well-lit and colorful keypad.
- Nice bright screens.
- Decent interface with Outlook (although it could be better) with the optional data package.
- Tiny when folded yet plenty big enough when unfolded. Without a leather cover I can put this thing in my pocket.
Cons:
- No way to make it vibrate AND ring at the highest volume.
- No way to make it vibrate and ring at the same time.
- Car charger doesn't work well but maybe I've got a bad unit.
- Rubber cover over the headset hole is impossible to get out without a needle. I had to trade my phone in for a new one. I tested all 10 sample models in the store and 2 of them (20%) had the same problem.
- The replacement phone won't stay in the standard plastic holster; it seems like the replacement phone is not quite the same size as the original. The new one falls out and I almost lost it twice as a result. I finally bought a leather holster. At least I can open the rubber cover now though.
- Maybe it's just me but it seems to require a PhD to figure out the Get It Now system to download a ring tone.
- Gets hot enough to cook your hands and ears after several minutes of use.
- Camera can be accidentally turned on if the side button is inadvertently pressed and held (e.g. as when it's in your pocket or purse).
- The Contacts has a bug that prevents you from assigning a picture to a contact if the contact has a phone number shared with any other contact. Why, I don't know.
Things I wish it had even though I knew up front that it didn't:
- A speakerphone.
- Additional buttons (on the side maybe?) that would launch some of the built-in apps (but only if the phone is open; I don't want the apps to be launched by accident while the phone is in my pocket).
A670 is a great phone
I've had my Samsung a670 for 7 days and I love it. I upgraded from a a530s which was nice but it's nothing like the a670. The a670 LCD displays are much nicer, it's bigger (A530s was a little small for me), it has better menus, the "OK" button is in the middle and the number keys are bigger. The camera works well but the video is a little choppy. Overall, this is an awesome phone, I highly recommend it.
Pros:
Nice size
Nice looking phone, love the color
Sound clarity
Great reception (Southern CA)
Excellent construction and build quality
Inner LCD screen, beautiful colors
Number keys are nice and big
Easy to use menus
Camera takes nice pictures
Cons:
Video is a little choppy
Battery life could be better
