UTStarcom Super Slice / CDM-1450
Average Ratings
Lots of software/battery problems
I've owned this phone for only 2 months, and I can't say I recommend it.
Pros:
- Large, clear screen
- Nice menus and interface
- Good wallpapers/sounds
- Special Edition glossy red color (optional)
Cons:
- Reception on the poor side compared to the original Slice. No bars on the SS and you get at least 3 on the original version. Keep your hands over the antenna bar on the bottom of the phone and it makes the reception even worse!
- The larger, raised keypad is an upgrade, however when you keep the phone in your pocket it's way to easy for pressure to depress the phone's buttons - requiring you to turn the keylock on. The keylock requires 2 or more presses, cutting down on the ease of use. The backlight on the keypad also flashes intermittently when the main LCD is in dim mode.
- Having the SS in my pocket, the phone battery would overheat and the phone would shut down for no reason. This happened on numerous occasions. The phone would not re-start unless the battery was reset!
- The bluetooth function worked well enough, however there is some glitch in the voice command function. You can set the phone for pressing one button on the bluetooth and the phone will talk to you "Please say a command...", but this worked sometimes, but mostly did not work at all, a major frustration.
- The SS is bulkier and heavier than the original Slice.
All in all, I recommend the ORIGINAL SLICE over the Super Slice. Nothing fancy, a phone for what it should be!
I believe Virgin Mobile should come out with a phone called the "Slice Classic", an upgrade to the original without some of the enhanced functionality; however keeping the simplicity to the original design. Throw some nice wallpapers, a better user interface as in the Super Slice, and a faster UI with support for the newer games, and you have a sure hit! Also perhaps offer it in more limited edition colors, such as silver, blue, green, pink, etc.
Nice so far
I've only had my UTStarcom Super Slice a day but so far I like everything about it. The test will come tonight when I pair it up with my car.
Most reliable phone from VM
I've been with Virgin Mobile for 3 years now. I've been through "good enough" phones, ugly phones and through phones that shouldn't have never seen the buyer's market. That all ended last week when I purchased the Super Slice.
Yeah, the name is retarded, but the phone is absolutely solid. UTStarcom and VM should exclusively work together more often.
----
Pros
----
* Sturdy electronics and exterior
* Black casing doesn't smudge as easily as others
* Reception (and clarity) is phenominal (especially in metro areas)
* Speaker phone has average clarity (hard to come by with VM phones)
* Longest battery life I've ever seen in a VM phone. It went a full three days of regular usage.
* The interface has been cleaned up and given a more mature streamlined look and feel
* Takes above average photos for a $60 dollar phone.
* Ringtone volume is exceptionally clear and loud. (another rarity of VM phones.
* Backlit buttons are nothing to be embarrased about anymore (like the Audiovox 8610)
* VXL is way faster than in the past. Ringtones are easier to come by.
----
Cons
----
* Buttons are on the small side (but tolerable)
* Reception begins to suck when transitioning into more remote suburban areas
* Like most cell phones, it has trouble inside some buildings (reception)
* Annoying beep when you lose all signal bars or you have regained signal after having no signal at all

Overall
----
Its the best phone produced for VM and I recommend this phone to anyone looking to switch to VM. You won't be disappointed.
Super slice
I'll keep this review short and to the point.Honestly i think this is a garbage phone.
-Text messaging is completeley bugged and by replying to just 1 message you received can cost you big money. It sends duplicte text messages when you reply to a rely sent to your phone.
Bluetooth disconnects every 3 mins or so
My only real reason for getting this phone is because the battery life and the fact it was a candy bar phone.I'm going to the cyclops.Avoid this phone because it is bugged and will cost you big money and may even force you to remove texting from your phone.
