Great Start for a color LG Phone
Got the phone Monday. Like most of the others, had the 510 for the last two years and loved it. Had to return the first one today after the phone refused to charge. Would appear to charge for 30 to 40 minutes then shut itself off and dis-charge the battery. Verizon replaced it without a blink and said it appeared the software was messed up.
PROS: great color screen, clear, bright. Like the large numbers on the outside screen. Easy to read in bright sun and dead of night. Sound quality is excellent. Ringers are loud!! Perfect size to fit in shirt or jacket pocket. Easy to navigate menu if you had the 510 prior.
CONS: Poor selection of ringers. Tried the others on the internet and they are no better. Color screen is hard to see in bright sun light and the adjustments for contrast do not allow for small changes. Jumps from 50% to 74%, nothing in the middle. Contrary to what you are told, the 510 car charger is NOT compatible with the 4400. While it will charge, you will get a "Charge Complete" notice, but is charging but very slowly. The 510 charger will work in a pinch and until you can get the right one. Navigation buttons are a bit touchy and hard to use for us big finger guys. Women with nails will fret also. My wife had problems.
Kids love it for the colors and sleek looks. Those of us who just use the heck out of it love it too. Will be a good sell to anyone looking to upgrade and wants something sleek but yet durable. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants or needs a new phone.
The battery life appears to be good, lasting a good 2 days with normal use (60 minutes talk time a day) For Verizon users, it hits the mark on making all the features accessable and easy to use.
A great phone for the money
I really like this phone! I used to have a Sam sung 3500 when I was with a different carrier (poor service). I switch to Verizon after everyone I knew recommended it. The sales person recommended 3 phones, Sam sung 530 (small buttons), LG 6000 (didn't need a camera), and the LG 4400. This is what I went with and could not be more pleased. It is only a month old but seems like it could take on long term use.
Pros: great color, large outer LCD screen, good clarity, (with minor feedback inside a couple of buildings on occasion), and easy to use. Also has a loud ringer. Just fun to play with even for older adults.
Cons: Silly ring tones, limited wall papers, and antenna does not stay up, and again the minor feedback (could be my area, but unsure at this time) keeps me from giving it a full 5 stars
I would still recommend this phone, it is just a good, solid phone to have
I have to also say that Verizon has been outstanding with their customer service. When I first got this phone I would call them with questions and they were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. They were also very knowledgeable about their products.

I have owned many phones, and this one is by far the best one, customizable (downloadable ring tones, games, and wallpaper), good sound, great reception, VERY nice color screen.
I have seen some people talking about getting more wallpapers. Go to www.pictavision.com and register, this allows you to upload pictures. After you register and upload pictures (make sure they are JPG files), go on Get It Now on your phone and go to "Get Pix". Select Pictavision and enter your log-in info. After, you should be able to view the folders you have your pictures saved in on Pictavision. From there, just press Ok and it will have 3 options, click save as wallpaper, and now you have your own picture on your phone! Very cool feature.

So all in all, if you are looking to get an outstanding phone, get the LG VX4400. The only other phone close to it at Verizon is the T720, but IMO, LG VX4400 blows out the competition.
The vx4400 Is a great phone
I purchased the 4400 last week and so far I have been very impressed. I also own a T720 and there is no comparison, the 4400 is by far the best. This phone features a richer color display than the T720 and better sound quality. The phone seems pretty well put together, you don't hear the creaking in the casing when playing games, etc as in the T720.
I have not had any software issues at all with this phone, there also is no lag time when switching screens like I have seen with other color phones. It would need nice to have some down loadable wallpapers or screen savers for this phone, they would look awesome.
I have researched several phones including the Samsung A530 but chose the 4400 due to it being a trimode as compared the dual mode A530.
Tried the VX-4400 today
I have used friend's T720 and CDM-9500.
The display size of the CDM-9500 is the largest, followed by the
T720 and then VX-4400. The color "picture quality" of the
CDM-9500 was also the best, but the 4400 was not far behind.
I have always said that the display on the T720 looks washed-out.
The size of the 4400 was not as tall (height) as the 9500. It felt better in my
hand using it than the other two.
The build-quality of the 4400 also seemed to be the best. It felt
more sturdier made than the 9500. The keypad on the 4400 is
some type of rubber. It was easier to use the keypad on the 4400 since
the keypad on the 9500 is too smooth and the buttons are much smaller and
level with the surrounding plastic.
The external LCD is also better. It has larger numbers and letters, unlike the
tiny external LCD on the 9500.
I placed a few calls on each. The ear volume on the 9500 was turned up all
the way, and was still not very loud...but loud enough that you can hear
without any problems. The volume on the 4400 is much louder. If it is turned
up all the way, it is too loud. I had to turn it down to one level below medium.
I called a person using each phone, and the 4400 had the best
sound quality. The 9500 was good, but the 4400 was clearer.
The person I was talking to said that I sounded the same using each.
The included pictures (wallpapers) on each aren't anything great, but I liked
the wallpapers on the 9500 better.
The 4400 has one animated wallpaper of hot air balloons, and the rest are
just standard pictures, snowboarding, soccer, sunflower, puppy, beach.
The 4400 antenna when pulled-out it about 3". The 9500's is about 5".
If I had to choose between the CDM-9500 and VX-4400, I would probably
go with the 4400. It felt to be better built, more convertible in the hand,
louder volume and clearer sounding, with a good color display.
The ONLY advantage the CDM-9500 has is the display is larger and
has slightly better picture quality.
Ya Gotta Love It!!!
Got this phone for my wife after the blackout of '03. She never wanted a cell phone before but that changed her mind. Looked long and hard between the LG VX4400 and the Samsung A530. She really fell in love with the keypad on the 4400 and felt (I agreed) that the keys on the Samsung were slippery and too small for reliable dialing. The 4400 is tri-mode while the 530 is dual only. Even on Long Island we occasionally do find ourselves switching over to analogue. The 530 would not allow for this. The outside screen on the 4400 can be seen fairly well even without back lighting...the 530 is totally useless without being lit (and the light only stays on for about 3 seconds). The 4400 has a more sturdy feel and will hold up better in the long run. The screens are beautiful and it has a much more friendly user interface than the 530...making programming in phone numbers, etc. much easier than on the 530. The voice dial works like a charm (I can't fool it into believing I am my wife...lol), it has a neat tip calculator, calender, voice memo, world time clock, etc. The real beauty of it is it all works so flawlessly and intuitively.
Finally, the call quality is awesome, and battery life is not bad for a color screen phone.
Cons - The ring tones it comes with are a little cheesy.
Overall - A really awesome phone with plenty of features, a clear user interface allowing for very easy navigation, a nice big keypad making for easy and reliable dialing, really cool blue back lighting at night, tri mode operation in a small yet rugged little package with great reception!
Love this phone
I have had probably a dozen phones since cellular came out, and this phone is so far my favorite. The screen is beautiful, the signal sensitivity is great. At my house any Verizon phone is considered great if i can make a call due to location. This phone does well. The antenna is a sturdy one, compared to the V-60i which breaks easily. The voice dialing feature almost never misses, the best I have ever seen.
The only things i would like different are:
1: battery life is limited due to the color screen. I'm willing to charge it nightly to get the cool color screen though.
2: I wish i could get the banner "Verizon Wireless" off of the middle of the screen. Their name is printed on the top of the phone already, so I doubt i'll forget who my carrier is if the screen banner was not there. It gets in the way of the pictures I download into the phone.
3: No car kit available for this phone yet. I'm kind of a car kit guy, but i'm adjusting.
4: recovery time from ending a call, to making another call right away is a little slow. I'm a power user, and like to make back to back calls. The 5 second delay is a little annoying.
this phone is great. I was holding out for the SCH-530 samsung, but that phone never did become available so I went to the 4400. I doubt I'll switch even if the 530 becomes available.
LG-4400, Nothing But EXCELLENCE
I bought the LG-4400 today at full retail ($269.99) and thought I would share my thoughts on the phone. Let me start by saying that I have owned the Mot. T720 and the Sharp Z-800 and the 4400 is by FAR a much better phone. First, the size. It is nearly perfect. It is slightly thinner and slightly longer than the TM-510 and fits in my hand and my pocked perfectly. The inside screen is VERY nice, much better quality than both the T720 and Z-800. I would compare the quality of the screen to the Audiovox 9500, but screen is a little smaller than the others. As far as features, it is unbelievable how customizable this phone is. The ringers are extremely LOUD. The low setting is as loud as the high setting on the T720 and the Z800. And yes, they are polyphonic and sound excellent. The outsize LCD is a very nice size. The colors of the outide LCD (referred to as the Sub-LCD) are completely customizable with a choice of color for incoming calls, standy, missed calls etc. It has Ring & Vibrate simultaneous, which is always great. The vibrate is pretty strong. The options go on and on including Brightness and Contrast adjustability. You can also adjust the length of time that you would like the button lights (which are a very nice Samsungish Blue) as well as the Backlight to be on. You can set them to Always On when flip is open, which was not available on the T720. You can turn the welcome and goodbye sounds off which is something that is not found on most phones. One thing that I can see as a possible problem is that it can be a little difficult to hit the OK button without hitting the UP and DOWN button while wearing gloves. As for battery life...the phone came with a slight charge (1 line) and I have been playing with it for about an hour and it has not gone dead. The signal strength is excellent. In conclusion, I LOVE the phone. It is by FAR the best COLOR Verizon Phone out there.
LG4400 is a Winner
Over the past 10 years I have had more than a dozen phones including such brand names as Motorola, Audiovox and Nokia. My current phone, the LG 4400 is by far the leader of the pack. I compare the LG4400 to Motorola's T-720 which was the most disappointing of all my previous cell phones. The T-720, in my opinion, is a poor quality phone with great cosmetics. Over a period of the past four months the T-720 was in Verizons Service Center four times for technical problems. Three of the four times Verizon swapped the phone out for a new model of the T-720. The last trip in was the straw that broke the camels back, the T-720 was dropping almost every call that I made or received.
Verizon recommended a swap out to a compatible product. I did my homework and found that the LG4400 was far superior to in quality and performance to anything comparable in the market. The only negative was that I would have to program more than 175 names into the new address book. It was well worth the effort, the phone is GREAT!.
It's decently customizable
The VX-4400 is actually pretty good for accepting custom wallpaper and ringers, if you're decently computer savvy. You don't have to be a tech wizard, though. Mac users can just use the step-by-step guide at http://videogamexchange.com/sites/lg4400/ , and I doubt it's any harder for PC users.
You'll need to get a USB cable (from Radio Shack) and install Python (http://www.python.org/) on your computer. With that, you can use Bitpim (http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/) to load a decent number of MIDI files and BMP wallpapers (limited by memory size, but that's the only limitation). So if you can find a tune online that's in MIDI format, you can probably import it into the phone, with decent results...taste notwithstanding. If you can use a paint program, you can make any kind of wallpaper you like.
I switched to this after giving the Motorola T730 a try. Despite multiple attempts with several different PCs and pieces of software, I couldn't get the T730 to accept any of my custom pictures or ringers.
The charger for the VX-4400 can be a little alarming. To put the phone into the cradle, you might get a loud SNAP sound. It's just plastic rubbing against plastic, though, and it looks sturdy enough to deal with repeated use. Also, the USB cable can't charge the phone (unlike some Motorola-compatible cables).
To sum up...it's a great phone for people who really want to make their own custom wallpapers and play around with lots of unique ringers.
