This stinks

May 1, 2004 by kvortex

This phone stinks, don't buy this phone. I got it 3 days ago and it already won't turn on. The ear piece didn't work when I got it either. The phone is flimsy and nonresponsive.
DON'T BUY THIS PHONE.......!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great phone, with a few probs.

Feb 24, 2004 by mmitch

This is my second T62u, the first one went bad after a week and inputing 234 numbers manually. My Cingular agent didn't have another to give me and after 2 weeks the other one didn't re-appear so they gave me the money back and I got this second one on Ebay. It works great, but doesn't admit to charging, ie the battery icon stays steady when it is plugged in, instead of working back and forth. After a few hours the battery level does increase. I like this phone as it works great, great signal, no roaming and all that. I have now saved all the numbers to the sim so no more inputting. I can't seem to get WAP to work when I'm in GSM mode. For people who travel outside the GSM area its great. Also I can put the SIM into my T68i (unlocked) and use it if I'm in a GSM rich area. Have tried using the DBA-10 Bluetooth, works great for handsfree but still haven't got the laptop online with it yet. I'm sure the secret is in the drivers.

Look twice

Well lets start with the cons, the phone has a terrible, screen display, the functions are not set up right, and it has these ring tones that just make u want to scream.

The good thing about to phone is that, it makes cleat calls, text messaging is very good.

Thats about all i have to say. If ur the type that just need a phone, this is that one for u.
I think every one should try the kyocera slider.

its slick, cheap price, and u should check out the features and ring tones.

Great mix of features

The T62U is a great mix of current features on the market. Ericsson as a whole could provide a better interface, but that has nothing to do with this phone in particular, I've had 3 Ericsson phone before.

The talk time is great, the weight and size are perfect. The interchangeable plates are awesome.

On the tech side. I had a major problem with ATT during my first week. They had me on a GSM only plan, which inhibited the TDMA side from working. After working it out with them it picks up each network perfectly now. It would be a great enhancement to have it switch over automatically during a call, but unfortunately if you are on the outside of one network the call will get dropped and you'll need to reconnect. Considering that i mostly stay in the city area this is not a major issue.

The phone is a great leap forward for the current USA mix of GSM and TDMA/Analog. I have service everywhere. If you do have problems with jumping into TDMA service tell ATT to make sure you have the multi-band plan. It will save you time on the call.

Finally a good signal in NYC

I've had trouble with my provider (AT&T)forever.. coverage has always been very spotty because of my ground floor apartment in Queens. My previous phone was a Nokia 6590 (GSM ONLY) which was a good phone overall. It had a very user friendly interface and decent signal. I also tried the 7210 (World GSM ONLY) which was not quite as good in signal strength (I returned that). After losing my 6590 I had a tough decision to choose another. AT&T never really has a good selection IMHO. Welp I picked this new T62u up and I can't say enough good things about the signal strength. It turns out TDMA is the stronger network for me and let's me call out easier. So I set that as my prefered network using the *777* trick. My beefs so far is the battery life. I can only get a days worth of usage on it before it gets very low (hasn't shut on my yet though). Also the controls aren't as friendly as the Nokias in my opinion. I'm not crazy about the joystick type controls. The menu movements are very laggy. On the nokia it was as fast as I could press it.. the t62u has a noticable delay moving from one item to the next.

Sure it's not a perfect phone.. but if signal strength (for the US) is what you care about this is really good.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!

from someone who knows
sthh rthths

you post was the thing I've been looking for months now. I happen to live on the border of gsm and tdma, and often the phone will fake me out by saying i have full strength and I'll go to dial and get a 'msg 3' or something like that. Now that i can force the phone to use gsm only, hopefully this will be eliminated now. question: how do i turn it off, the protocol is now indicated next to the signal strength bar, turn that off perhaps? thanks again.

Good Phone, Good Reception, ? Quality

Mar 13, 2003 by Troy Phelps

Ive had this phone for a few weeks now... long engouth to get a pretty good feel for it. Overall, it is a good product with an enormous number of features.

The Pros: (1) The reception is very good. At first I noticed it pulling in only 2 or 3 bars of signal strength and thought it was getting poor reception. Then I discovered that it will easily and clearly make and receive calls with only 1 bar of signal strength -- so, basically, if the phone says it has service, it has service and can make a call. It reads NO SERVICE when it can't. That is in sharp contrast to my preivous Nokias (3360, 7160) that would not make a call with only 1 bar of signal strength. (2) I like the blue display. It's a cool blue display that backlights the screen and keys. Very rereshing. (3) It is definitely a smart phone! It has more features than I can count and understand.... which brings me to ...

The Cons. (1) Sony definitely failed on the Manual. That thing makes not sense and does an absolutely lousy job of describing how to use the phone and its features. I finally discovered that I could download a better manual from the Sony website than the one that came in the box.
I have also had considerable difficulty figuring out which accessories work for it and which one's dont... for example, does the MCA camera work with it or not? (2) Quality. The cover gets dust between the body and the screen almost every day and has to be removed to be cleaned so I can see the screen. That tells me there is a poor fit, which I can attest to just by looking at it. Other than that, no problems with quality, though.

One thing to keep in mind... the due to network problems at Cingular, the GPRS on GAIT phones doesn't work. It will access the internet via dial in, but not via GPRS. If you're buying the phone to use GPRS make the store test the GPRS feature before you walk out the door. Cingular tech support verified its a network issue.

T62u

Nice Phone--When it works. The T62u is a decent phone with a number of nice features, but a lot of them have had keypad problems as well as quite a few power failure issues.

ATT says T62u has outdated chip

Aug 25, 2003 by M Alexo

An ATT salesman discouraged me from getting this phone because he said the memory chip (SIMM? card) was outdated and would not swap/be compatible in any of the other phones should I switch or upgrade phones in a few years.

I was really high on it because of its complete band coverage, but they make it seem the new MLife coverage will change all the problems I've had there.

Great phone

I bought mine about 3 months ago. At first i didn't like it much. Bus as soon i discovered the wonders of this phone i don't leave house without it! The reception is awesome. It's very reliable too. I like it's unique shape. The battery is excellent. The faceplate's are a bit flimsy but ok overall. The magic is in it's network endless possibilities! Since i got the T62u i never get any 'NO SERVICE'. The menu interface is slow. The keys too. No cool ring tones. Neither backgrounds. This is a phone for people that NEEDS A PHONE! Not a fancy toy. I totally recommend it!
