Nokia 3586i / 3588i
Average Ratings

Good phone, could be better.
Ok, I got this nokia 3588i a while ago, and it's a pretty good phone overall. The pros: good reception, good back-light length, loud ring-tones. Cons: can't download new wallpapers or ring-tones!! I hate that part. Some of the ring-tones are good. But, I don't really like all of them and don't feel like i can really personalize the phone. As for reception, it's pretty good here in San Diego. I didn't get very many dropped calls at all. The alarm it has in it, is loud and wakes me up easily. Granted I'm not hard to wake up anyway, but still. I would recommend this phone to anyone that doesn't care about whether or not they can download new ring-tones or wallpapers.

Good phone when you get a good one.
Overall, this is an awesome phone. I'll start off by saying that I had three defective ones (randomly went into analog). On the fourth try, I went to another store about 45 miles away and bought one, it works perfectly. I'm on First Cellular (it's a locally owned Southern Illinois carrier, www.firstcellular.com). I'm thinking that my store got a bad bunch, because friends got bad ones too. Now the info on the one that I have now:
Pros:
-INCREDIBLY loud ringers.
-vibrate works well.
-will vibrate and ring at the same time
-one can set up timed ringer profiles
-excelent performance in weak areas.
-very good battery life.
-nice display.
-nokia menus.
-sound quality (quite clear).
-on First Cellular, a deadspot with this phone is a rare occurance.
cons:
-When using a headset, dialing produces extremely loud tones through the earpiece, easily twice as loud as the conversation. doesn't make any difference if I turn down the keypad volume.
-I wish there were a way to turn off the screensaver alltogether.
Overall, two cons from a person that's as picky about his phones as I am is excelent. Both could be fixed by a software update, and I hope that they will be.
I'm very glad I got this phone, it was worth the truoble in the end. The clarity far exceeds any other phone i've owned, as does the reception. I can be in the same room with a person using a Moto t731 on the same carrier as myself, their phone is almost unusable, and I can hear and be heard clearly on mine. Plus, the nokia is cheaper! $80 cheaper than the 731 from my carrier in fact.
This phone is highly reccomended, as is First Cellular for anyone considering this phone in Southern Illinois.

Power User, currently looking for replacement
For the first 3 months I had this phone I loved it. It had everything I needed: great battery life, good reception, a bright easy-to-read screen, and intuitive menus. Having been in the Wireless/Telecommunicaitons industry for over 5 years, I am a long-time proponent of Nokia products. After long-term use of the 3586i my opinion has changed, both of the phone and Nokia.
I am a power cell phone user averaging about 3500 minutes a month with this phone (it currently has over 508 hours in the "Life Timer"). That being said here are the pro's and con's as I see them.
PROS:
Great back-lit display (resolution isn't the best for pictures and wallpaper, but for "phone" related functions it's great)
Intuitive Menus (standard Nokia)
Better than average battery life
Fairly Durable (durability improves greatly with the Nokia leather case)
Nokia Data Cable. This is a great accessory and allows all your phone entries to be sync'd with your Outlook contacts. A big time saver when I had to replace the phone after being stolen.
CONS/PROBLEMS:
Cheap extendable antenna. My plastic tip broke off within a month of owning the phone. As did one of my co-worker's.
Software glitches. More and more I find the phone will "freeze up" similar to a computer. I will have to take the battery off to get it to come back on.
Dropped-Calls. Even though this problem is normally associated with a provider, I have found that users with different phones from my same provider have fewer dropped calls than I. In my opinion Nokia does not perform as well in the CDMA environment as compared to comparable GSM / TDMA models.
Screen will white out. A similar problem to the freezing up where after I end a call I check the screen and it is all white.
Resolution of the screen is mediocre for pictures. I downloaded (with Nokia Data Cable) a picture from my PC and it is very blurry.

Good phone
I just traded in my LG VX6000 camera phone for the Nokia. I'm pleased. The only thing that I don't like is that the wallpapers aren't that great. The only decent one is the clouds. The earpiece is weird. I used to have the 3585 and you could hear good if you had it on the lowest setting. But with this one, you have to turn it up louder. The software seems a little slow... but maybe it's just my phone? I wish it had Snake II on there. The bowling game isn't as easy as it looks. Overall, I'm glad I traded in for this phone. I love it!
