Be Warned
Most things about this phone are very good. But the call quality is atrocious. And if the phone won't do the most basic job of being a phone, well thats a fail.
Took it back to try a second phone to see of it was just a defect on my phone. Second phone had exact same problem. Every single person I talked to had to ask me to repeat myself or to "speak into the phone". Noone could hear me clearly.
Been on Verizon for well over 10 years, this is a first. Always had superior call quality on all of my devices, which have been many! I've switched to the older Curve 8330, and the call quality is back to normal. Sad, cause I would really like the memory, processor, and screen improvements on the Tour. But sorry, not if nobody can understand me.
shameful!
Best Blackberry out!!
I would say this is the best Blackberry phone out right now. Got it 2 days ago & I'm very pleased. I upgraded from the Curve which was also great. I was a little hesitant with renewing my contract with this phone as I was also interested in the Storm. After playing around with the Storm for a while, I decided to go along with the Tour. I made a great choice.
Pros
1. Browsing the internet is real quick.
2. Screen view is great, crystal clear.
3. Real smooth & quiet when texting on the
qwerty keypad. A big difference from the Curve.
4. VCast Music ready.
5. I'm glad BB decided to keep the trackball & not make it a touchscreen.
6. Browsing thru programs on the phone is a breeze. Smooth.
Cons
1. When receiving SMS/MMS messages, you're unable to set the # of rings. It only rings once after the vibrating. The Curve you can set to 2 or 3 rings.
2. When receiving a call or text, the vibration is really light, unable to feel or hear it.
Overall if you're looking for an upgrade, this is a must have. The cons on this phone are minor.
Great BB with few flaws
I have had the tour for a little of two weeks. This is my 4th Blackberry and is my favorite by far.
Pros:
Camera - Has the same MP as the storm but the quality is much better.
Screen â The resolution wicked, very crisp and bright.
Menus â They are much more user friendly. Reminds me of the Storm's menus.
Size â Sits between the Curve and the Bold. Very comfortable in the hand
Speed â Almost as fast as the Bold and much faster then the other Blackberrys on Verizon Wireless.
Home screen dialing â This is by far my favorite feature. You just starting typing the name or the number of the person that you want to call and the name pops up and you click to dial. No need to go to a phone app within the Tour (or any keypad blackberry for that matter).
Case profile switching â No need to go to a meeting and remember to switch your Blackberry to vibrate. All you have to do is customize your profile to Silent when in case and to vibrate. Genius!
Verizen Customer Service â When ever I have had an issue or question they have an answer. I have also been transferred directly to Blackberry Tech support when I had an issue with the desktop software. Verizon also called me back to make sure that the issues was solved. BIG fan of customer service.
Cons:
Battery â Is a little on the weak side. Lasts about þ of the day. This should improve with a device software update.
Battery Cover â Is a little loose but not as bad as many are saying.
Start up Time â Because data security is a hot button for RIM. I have been told that the long start time is because of security processes with the files on the device. When you do a battery pull or a soft reset it takes about 5 minutes for the phone to be up and running again.
With that said, this is a great phone. I still have a couple issues with 3rd party apps like Facebook and Ubertwitter but updates to the apps should solve the problems.
BEST BLACKBERRY YET!
I've owned in the past in chronological order; Blackberry Pearl - Blackberry Curve - Blackberry Storm - Blackberry Tour. This 9630 is the best I've ever had. It has all the great features of the Storm, but the easy use of the Curve. It's great!
PROS:
Great EVDO/1X reception
Great call clarity
Very fast user interface
GPS
etc
CONS:
Battery life could be better.
Nice Step Up
I upgraded on VZW from an 8703e to the Tour last weekend. I bought a Storm back in February, could not take it back fast enough - a great concept & liked the OS but it was not a mature product & still not really good after multiple updates. Different story here
PROS:
* Very fast; crisp; lags when dialing but I'm not doing anything else with the phone at that point, I'm mentally composing my conversation
* Camera - quick, good flash, good pic quality. No more lag than you would expect with a 3.2MP digital camera
* Full-featured personal email - nice to see emails in html
* OS: Liked it on Storm, but have a keyboard - still nice & intuitive, keystrokes are still there to quickly get things done
* Screen is very clear and bright
* Design - profile much thinner than 8703e; feels more solid than Curve because of components
* Speed again - youtube is a good test of processor + network, have seen good results
CONS:
* Screen is smaller than I would have liked
* Battery life - 1400 mAh is nice but if I'm going to use multimedia, bluetooth, etc. it's going to go fast
* BB App Store is kind of clunky
* Web pages show up very tiny and require multiple zoom clicks to get to a readable size
* Audio quality - a little less than 8703e on phone calls. Doesn't seem to affect music though
* Small Keyboard - I have big fingers & would have appreciated the width of a BB Bold
* Absence of wi-fi. Come on, Apple gets away with charging a small fortune on the iPhone for data and voice AND wi-fi is on there!
* Storage - would be nice to add a 2nd microSD slot and add software that would allow you to logically daisy-chain those so the BB OS sees the 2 cards as a single storage space. This could make Tour an iPhone replacement for someone who is BB-friendly and not committed to Apple
Tour is the Top BlackBerry
I've owned the Pearl, Curve, and now the Tour (for 1 week), all with Verizon service. The Tour beats the Pearl hands down and is considerably better than the Curve, in my opinion. Tour feels more solid than my other BBs and is just the right size . . . not too big or small. Great tactile key response and the screen is amazingly brilliant. So far, I have no complaints.
Sprint Tour
I've had the tour for about 1 hour (lol). I do consider myself to be a BlackBerry addict so I had no problem getting familiar with the tour.
Great phone, definately worth the money for the louder speaker and definately the more vibrant screen.
Pros:
Beautiful Screen
Better organization on the full screen (folders)
Speaker is alot louder and more clear.
EVDO is awesome.
Form Factor (very flashy yet professional)
Cons:
Along with everyone else, the loose battery door. (nothing a small piece of paper can't fix. lol)
Less responsive trackball (a defect maybe. I have to take it back to let them see it.)
In the box case is cheap. (works great in the traditional blackberry curve case)
Well, there you have it. I will update as I get to play with it more so check back!!! Thanks.

Best Blackberry for Verizon
Just got mine off eBay 2 days ago - new in the sealed box for $10 less then retail with free shipping! I don't understand why anyone would pay more then the full retail cost of the phone - anyway, that's a conversation for another day.
So far I am very pleased with this phone - I had the Curve, then the Storm, and now this.
Pros:
Gorgeous screen, the colors and the resolution are awesome.
You can remove the memory card without removing the battery - YAY!
Software runs fast and smooth
GPS works perfectly with 3rd party apps
Keyboard feels natural and smooth, probably a little tough to get used to if your coming from the Curve because the keys run together - but coming from the Storm - this is 1000% better
Camera works way better then on the Storm
Sounds quality is great
Battery life so far has been great
Cons:
Loose battery door - what a stupid problem to have? You can implement a "Storm" like fix and wedge something between the back of the phone and the battery door and this makes a marked improvement. It just seems like poor design but it doesn't irritate me nearly enough to go try to swap it out.
My visual voicemail is not working correctly - the only way to get my messages is to manually sync VVM. They don't download automatically. I'm sure customer service can fix this problem but since it doesn't work right out of the box, I'm listing it as a con.
That's about it - overall I think the phone is awesome and the best Blackberry out there right now.
BlackBerry Tour - Best decision I've made!
I am so happy with my purchase of the BlackBerry Tour. I became frustrated and angry with my quest to own a Palm Pre. (I have a legacy Sprint service plan that is too feature rich for me to give up.) With the Tour I have all the functionality I desire and I get to "own" my data. I am just not too keen on having all of my data, contacts, calendar, etc. being hosted by a "cloud." I like having the ability to sync with my data that is housed on my laptop instead of a website.
The only issue I have with the Tour (hence the .5 deduction), which I understand all BlackBerries have, the native deficiency of being able to automatically display the time of the time zone you are in. When I leave the west coast and arrive on the east coast, it would be nice to have the clock automacially show the east coast time. Not a deal breaker, just a minor desire. Overall, great phone.
