Kyocera Slider Remix KX5 / Slider Sonic
Average Ratings
US Cellular KX 5
lol... Anyone dumb enough to buy a Kyocera phone in the U.S deserves it.. Kyocera phones in Japan are awsome but the cheaply made garbage brought into the states is a joke. I own a cell phone store and this phone sucks..
Save yourself money
Ok, if you are seriously thinking about purchaseing this phone, save yourself time and money.
this is how the phone works, ok, in the back of the screen, there are 2 magnents that connect to the base of the phone to allow the screen and top buttons (call, menu, ok, end, arrows) to work. this phone is very notorious for the magnets to jump of track, thus, making the buttons not work at all, and having the screen go out of wack. Personally i have had 3 of these phones. the first one i bought for 300 bucks and it malfunctioned as i just explained, so my carrier said that it was a warrentable probly , so i got another one for 10 bucks. the second one i got was stolen ( i hope they enjoy the problems) and so i had to go threw insurance and had to pay 85 bucks and spend a ton of time going threw insurance. and now my 3rd phone has malfuctioned as before, and since there is a small scratch on the phone its not warrentyable as my first phone was. i refused to go threw insurance again. overall i have spent 395 bucks on that stupid phone, and this has all happend in less than a year.
Pros-
Good sound
Good picture
Cons-
Malfunctions alot
Small buttons
Slow menus
Crappy speaker phone
Ear peice works for 2 weeks
blue tooth?? HAHAHA
games are boring
MP3's sound like hell
WONDERFUL PHONE!
I never had the opportunity to have a phone with all kinds of fun stuff on it until i started working for US Cellular. So as soon as I saw the slider, i bought it and i fell in love!
The original battery had an extremely low battery life and knowing i would use it as an mp3 player i opted to go with the extended battery and have not had battery problems ever since.
The speaker is nice and loud, almost too loud if I'm sitting quietly by myself on the train. If you're trying to play your mp3s over the speaker it might not sound that great, but with my headphones it sounds just as good as the ipod i had (but broke).
The phone is nice and sturdy I've dropped it quite a few times and have yet to see even a scratch yet alone experienced problems with the guts. :)
I went to tiger direct to buy a card for the phone and now ive got a 256MB of music on my cell phone. They were out of everything else at the time. getting the songs onto your phone are as easy as drag-dropping the files from your computer to the disk.
and my service is great. US Cellular in the Chicago-land area is great plus the phone is great. My friends apartment is a black hole for reception yet i never have problems. and I even get the joy of being on the only wireless service in Chicago, meaning i get to speak and play on my phone underground waiting for the el. and the great screen makes playing games while waiting for the train all the more enjoyable.
Awesome outside of limitations
Just picked up my Sonic yesterday and I love it so far. Granted, I read EVERYTHING on this forum as well as HowardForums, so I knew what to expect. I personally have had no battery issues, the sound is crystal clear, the phone is gorgeous, the slide is not too tough, and the headphones put out some amazing sound for being OEM headphones. It's got a good, sturdy feel to it. A lot of people have had issues with the "flat" buttons, but I can still touch-dial with no problem.
On the drawbacks, reception is a bit lower than what I wanted (but I also comparing that to a Sanyo 4930), it's highly annoying that you cannot transfer pics to the card, or use mp3s as ringtones, and I haven't been able to find a car charger (the Best Buy out here didn't even realize it used something different than the other Kyocera phones). But that's not really a problem with the battery life; it's going on about 24 hours now of a single charge with moderate usage. And I went to the Georgia Aquarium (worlds largest) and snapped off about 30 shots. The quality isn't too bad for 640x480 (ie pretty sharp, no blur). Just wish it wasn't $.25 to upload each pic. Gotta choose which ones I want. lol
All in all, I'd say get this phone. I personally found some pretty good ringtones on VMs site, and they had a background I like, so I'm good on that end. On the other hand, NO phone that they carry will allow you to make your own ringtones/wallpapers, so I wouldn't even factor that into my decision.
Yep. I had this phone too.
I can only give this a 3 Why?
Pros:
No dropped calls
Good sound
Rinders sounded good.
Camera decent for a VGA
Cons.
No video longer than 30 seconds
No video messaging? (Virgin Mobile) Sup wit dat?!
Can't charge and talk at the same time (that's a Kyocera thing).
That's why this gets 3. Nothing more, nothing less.
AWESOME PHONE!!!!!
I LOVE this phone!!! Only problem is finding the USB cord and software for downloading. But overall--phone itself is no disapointment!
Decent Phone.......Carrier has it locked up
I just went out and bought this phone this morning. Overall this is a decent phone. The menu is good and the overall layout is workable. Getting use to the keys is still kind of weird yet I seem to always exit out of everything by hitting the end call. I have used my Motorola V710 for 2 years and going over to a slider is different. (Almost snapped the top trying to close it all ready)
The worst thing is that US Cellular locks out all the data transfer features and also removed the once included Data Cable and Software out from the box. So now that is another $40 I have to spend to get the cable and the software.
I must say that this phone is definitely different than all the clam shell phones I am used too.
As for sound quality it sound just a little hollow and loud at first but the more I use it the more you get used to it.
The mp3 player is great. Even thought the V710 has mp3 capabilities it was nowhere as functional as the KX5.
The supplied headphone adapter is a good addition. It gives you the ability to use any headphones with a 3/8 stereo mini jack of your choice. I tried it with my DJ headphones and the sound quality is good and loud.
The key layout is little tighter with out any horizontal dividers between the keys. Quick dialing on the key pad is a NO CAN DO. Its a well lit key pad and easy to read.
PROS:
mp3 Player has good functionality
Display is big and well lit
Easy to navigate through the menu
Loud enough to hear in a noisy environment
The supplied headphone adapter is a plus
CONS:
Can not adjust the Bass, Treble or balance
Key pad is very tight together
The face is very susceptible to scratching
Sliding it open the first couple of times..It is a little stiff and tight
US Cellular Removed the data cable and software and the ability to add your own content to the phone. Making you have to use their on line store.
Hottest Phone of 2006
I bought this lil piece of technology off of E-bay and after 4 days of waiting im not dissapointed at all. The Slider function is way better dan flipping also it supports Micro SD TransFlash memory cards.
Pros:
Greatest phone of 2006 hands down
Cons:
The Virgin Mobile version is not better than the Alltel version. Buy the Alltel version.
Excellent Phone
Well the title says it all. This phone is flawless. I'm with US Cellular and I guess the phone is supposed to have limited BT, but mine is fully operational. I have no problems with transferring pics, video, or mp3's. The picture quality is great, the reception is by far the best I've ever had with a cell phone. I had the Razr, v266, 8900, v710 and the kx5 has the best reception out of them all. I know this because at my house all the other phone could not receive or call out, but the kx5 has no problems. I'm very impressed. The volume of the phone is awesome also. The ringtones are loud. I just found out to that the flash on the camera can stay on when u hit low light mode, which makes it a mini flashlight(lol). This cell phone does just about everything. I just put a video on it from a ripped dvd and the quality is awesome. I recommend this phone if you want a phone with great reception and/or all the other bells and whistles. ITS A KEEPER.
Kyocera will rule the market!!!
I work for Alltel and let me tell all of you, this is by far most unique phone Alltel has. Of course they have the Moto Razr V3c and the Moto E815, but this phone is better than both of Motorola's recent attempts. First off, the design is stylish and very sleek. A bit bulky but if I wanted a thin phone I would've gotten a Razr. It also has a way better battery life than the Razr. It also has a Trans Flash memory drive on it & an MP3 player on it, something the Razr forgot completely. It will also use analog and digital signals, the Razr and E815 is digital only. One word: BLUETOOTH! Also, the Slider Remix come with everything out of the box. A 16MB memory card, USB cord & headset with controls for operating the MP3 player.
Now the cons. The directional pad is horrible for playing games on. Text messaging is a chore if you have the Slider Remix in its clip. You will hit other buttons while texting no matter how hard you try. And lastly, the camera is pathetic! Doesn't matter much to me but it might to you.
If you are an Alltel customer looking for a cool phone with all the latest technology, the Slider Remix will serve you right...atleast until the Kyocera Strobe comes out.
