Great camera!
Despite all the complaints about its lack of "mega" pixel camera capability, i discovered it takes GREAT pictures! (I could not find exactly what the pixel size is for the Katana.) The clarity is terrific, and i have even sent them to be developed, like any other digital pictures, into real photos and they have come back sparkling. Also love the choices of setting for various light conditions, and the zoom, neither of which my new fancy Samsung Instinct with its 2 mega camera has (very frustrating).
Screen is also great for viewing the pictures. I can only hope that the newer Katana models (the II and the DLX and LX) that have now come out have either maintained the photographic capabilities or improved them even more!
Really good phone
I originally bought this phone off of a friend after my Treo 600 died (another good phone). I really did not have high hopes but I was proven wrong. My only true problem with this phone is that the ringers are not very loud. This does not bother me as much as it would some people because my phone is on vibrate the majority of the day anyways. Internet speed is a little above average. The phone it self has a nice look and feel to it, the flip opens and closes with a firm, almost "authoritive", click. The built in camera, although with out flash, takes images that are acceptable. I get really good reception everywhere except when I am underground (basements, parking garages, etc.). I really like the button devoted for speaker phone. I get fairly good battery life (I use the phone quite a bit and do a lot of texting and internet usage). One small thing that the phone does not have but would be nice is a slot for microSD cards but once again this does not bother me too much because the phone's memory is extremely capable for what little I do save on it. All in all this is a really great phone and they can be gotten for a fairly good price now that there are other models available.
not worth it
OK, so i just got this phone and already i hate it... i have only been using this phone for one day and it seriously sucks... i tried downloading rigntones and the sound was horrible... sounds like my ringers have a mouth full of food... but the good thing i do like about it is the texting... it is pretty good.... the only bad part that i have really experienced thus far is the sound/volume of the ringers... i will keep u updated on more info as to being like i said i jus got the phone... but this far the sound is horrible...

i love it!! it takes pics and sends pics!!!! i sends text and recives text and answers all my calls and the bluetooth is fine too!!! what more do you need a phone for!!! NO DROPED CALLS NOR AN PROBS WITH MY BATTERY AND I TALK ALLLLLLLLL DAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the lake borrowed my phone
dropped the 6 month old phone in the lake. The phone sank at the boat dock and I could not find it. After about a minute there it was. I couldn't have taken the battery off faster. phone sat in the back of my truck for about 2 weeks with covers open and flip open. Was ready to get new one and thought what the hell. Put battery on the phone works perfectly. It as been 2 weeks and well to say the least all those out there complaining. You've got nothing.
Superb Sound Quality & Volume
The thing I most appreciate about my Katana is its crystal clear sound quality and loud earpiece volume.
I've felt hard of hearing with other cell phones in the past and would have to strain to hear callers.
It is such a pleasure to use my Katana. I love it!
Sanyo SCP 6600 Katana == terrific phone!
I wanted a mid-range phone that was sturdy, reliable and had a camera and speakerphone capability. My local Sprint store manager recommended the Katana. She knows her customers and knows her phones!
I've had the phone since the beginning of the year and it has been dropped on pavement a few times -- no problems. It has *NEVER* dropped a call. The sound quality is much better than I expected.
Sure, it isn't "full-featured" -- no ASCII keyboard, no stereo speakers, no electric dog polisher, etc. But I didn't want that stuff to begin with. It does everything I want a cellphone to do.
Sprint has been a much, MUCH better service provider than Verizon Wireless. Better reliability, better customer service and better tech support are what I have come to expect from Sprint compared to Verizoff.
My next cellphone is likely to have all the bells and whistles, but I won't buy it until I really feel the need to have decent 'Net access over my phone. (I don't even have Web service enabled on this one.) Since I don't send text messages -- I'll leave that to the kiddies -- the only reason I would want a full keyboard or a better display would be to hit the Web a lot.
I just ordered a data transfer cable for this Katana and expect to play around with it using Bitpim, not that it really needs any hacking to improve it.

Thw Whole Truth
The Phone is HOTT!!! I think any Sanyo phone is a great phone to have simply because it's almost unbreakable. I know I drop my phone at least twice a week (and I'm not the only one out there) and every Sanyo phone I've had has passed the test. Now on to the Katana....
PROS:
~GREAT RECPTION!!!!!!!!
~Bluetooth works like a charm.
~Screen is huge and well lit.
~Even when I'm in weird places my phone hardly ever roams.
~Size does matter! At least when it comes to phones. I like them small and sleek and that's what I got.
~Inexpensive (especially now that it's been out a while).
~Battery Life. I put my phone on the charger every night and by the end of the next day my battery never gets under 2 bars. I love it!
CONS:
~VOLUME! It could stand to be up a couple of notches.
~The camera is okay. I've had better. Hmm, double meaning there...Okay...
~ The cover that covers the battery (too many covers there, lol) is so not...I can't think of the word...um....strong enough. There it is! It comes of too easily.
See you guys the pros out weight the cons. And believe me it's the truth. I just learned about this whole "phone scoop" thing and if I would have been signed up for it like years ago when I had some jacked up phones I would have let the world know and then you to could feel my pain. I do have Sprint and I love them. I had Cingular for a while and it was a total night mare. Anyway I won't get started on that. But if you want a phone the does everything a cell phone is suppose to do plus add in extra style and fun and games then the Katana is what you need. Holla.
Most Reliable CDMA Handset(Bell Mobility)
This is one of the greatest cdma handsets I've ever seen and believe me I've see alot of different phones. This is one of the few phones out there that has bluetooth and analog.Most phones with bluetooth are multimedia based phones that don't have the analog component. As a bell mobility retailer, I can honestly say that I haven't seen a signal one of these phones come back with a defect. We all know that this is one of the many copies of the very popular Moto Razr, but it is a great improvement as it has a consistent battery, strong reception, and a very sturdy hinge.
If you're looking for a great reliable phone and you're not looking for too many features, then this is the one.
things to keep in mind when buying this phone.
no 2.5 mm headset jack, which in this day and age we understand that bluetooth is in but keep in mind that wired headsets do not need to be charged. (phone carries a jack converter from its own data interface to a 2.5 mm jack, but it is quite fragile and easy to get loose.)
no real multimedia features such as
mp3
expandable memory
Video recorder
bluetooth data transfer.
This phone however has
Both cdma frequencies and analog(which believe it or not makes a different when you're car breaks down up north.)
Bluetooth for wireless headsets and in car speaker kits.
Very easy to read display, matted finish for ease of use when outside in the sun.
Top of the line built in speaker phone best in this category of phone.
Other things to keep in mind
phones are not waterproof
you shouldn't drop your phones although this is a very sturdy one.
Always think this way, how would you treat any other piece of electronic equipment
would you ever drop your DVD player on the concrete or through your digital camera in the lake?
all in all I rate this phone to be most excellent if you plan to just use it as a phone
