lovin' it
I got this phone a couple days ago and LOVE IT! I used to have the 6000 and sold it to get this one because it has more features that i use. the camera for the 6000 was nice, but the novelty wore off after about a month and a half.
I work for verizon and this is the phone that i have been recommending to all my customers who don't want a camera. The voice recognition is unbeatable and i like the monkey background.
Hands down this is the best phone i have ever used. I live in Riverside, CA and the service here is incredible as well. GO VERIZON!!
Very good phone
for the price of this phone it is very feature rich. the VR is outstanding. I have had this phone for a week, and I have had nothing but good things...until today. being that I work on the ground floor, I had a couple of dropped calls today, other than that my phone gets excellent signal.
All Digital, Not So Good (VX-4500)
I am one of those people who research products to an extent it could be said that I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I've been with verizon since December of 2002. I started my service in Athens, GA (1hr north of Atlanta) with the Samsung A-310. Reception was excellent phone was ok. I left GA and then went to OH for a month still great reception. I traveled quite a bit with that A-310 (Vegas, PA, D.C., MD, OH, GA, VA) great reception everywhere. I have since been in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.
Now to the LG VX-4500. I was ready for an upgrade and renewed my contract and went with the VX-4500 after researching for two weeks (phonescoop/HoFo). I liked all the features on the phone, I did not want a camera. I wanted the speaker phone instead. However, I knew pretty quick this phone was not going to work out. Reception usually great in my home turned to horrible with the 4500. I dropped at least 4-6 calls the first day. I got the phone on a monday and had to go to D.C. and MD for the weekend so I got to see how the phone was on the road. Speaker phone/voice dialing/other features were great, reception was HORRIBLE!! I dropped about 10-12 calls just that weekend.
I still have the phone, but I am planning on taking it back this weekend. I have researched a little more and it seems Verizon is bringing back the Tri-modes (AMPS/CDMA/TDMA). I think I will go back to the A-310 until I find a new VZW tri-mode I like in a month or so. If anyone has any input on the upcoming tri-mode phones please let me know. Hope this has helped the undecided.
LG VX-4500
Pros:
Speakerphone (volume as loud or louder than NEXTEL)
Voice Dialing
Menu Navigation
(I liked all the features)
Cons:
RECEPTION/RECEPTION/RECEPTION
Awesome phone
I just got this phone, I loved it. I had Samsung a310, LG510 and V60 before. This is the best phone; I ever had in my life.
Pros- Speaker phone, Ringers, Display, Size, voice reorganization, digit dialing ( you donât have to train your voice for that ) Battery life ( great with 3 hrs of talk time )
Cons- Only one light for outer LCD.
4 phones!
I initially really thought I'd like this phone. It worked and was good. That was what I needed, a functioning phone, that sent and recieved calls and texts. It worked for about 3 months (first phone) and then the screen turned either upside down, or had lines in it. Verizon replaced it free of charge, and I was given the exact same phone. it worked for 5 months, and then the screen just plain stayed off, no matter what any one did, black screen. Was replaced again. This phone would run out of battery even though on my friends 4500, it worked excellently. It was replaced again. I got the new phone, and it wouldn't even turn on when I recieved it. The first phone was the best, but it will get tiresome when it stops working for the 4th time!
Not a bad phone
I am surprised to see some of the negative reviews of this phone on here. It is not a great phone, but I can't say that I have had too many problems with it.
Pros:
Very sturdy
Good size
Good speaker phone
Battery life (overall)
Strong vibrate
Cons:
Ringtones lacking
Buttons on side get pushed too easily and thought phone was on vibrate, but found out later it was not
Display on the small side
Dust gets in front display.
Some dropped calls.
My contract runs up shortly and looking to get a new one, but I can't say too many bad things about this phone. I cannot count the times I have dropped it and thought it was going to be broken, but there was nothing wrong with it. The front display does collect a lot of dust and I took it back to Verizon and they took canned air and sprayed it out and told me to do the same every now and then.
I have had some problems with dropped calls. However, it has a lot to do with where I live. When I got the phone I lived maybe a half mile from a tower and always got a steady 6 bars. Since I moved (Northeast Portland, OR) I do not get as many bars and since I moved to the basement, my reception has decreased and I have had some dropped calls. So, I know this is the area I live/company and not the phone. Also, I have driven back to Montana a couple of times and if your travels are through more rural areas, I really would recommend a tri-mode phone because there were plenty of patches where I could not get a signal.
Really all in all, this is just a good phone with no frills. It has no camera (they were more than I wanted to spend two years ago) or no v-cast. And, of course this phone is discontinued so good luck buying a new one. But, used it would be worth it. I am still on the original battery and it is starting to go dead sooner, but that also has to do with the lack of bars I am getting.
Bad News!
This phone is the worst phone I have ever had, because I was under contract I didn't want to pay for another phone, so I'm stuck with it. I'm waiting until the end of this month to get a new phone, and not have to pay for it! I believe I have had better luck with my Nokia phones back in the day.
I have had so much trouble with this phone, luckily I was under warranty. I admit the first time I broke the phone, fell in water, my mistake. Then they gave me a brand new phone and the speaker blew out in less then 2months. So I sent it back, my second one was brand new and after like a month the vibrate mood stopped, and that was without dropping it. Then I returned that one and got a totally new 4th phone, and within about 3-4 months it broke again, the highest the ringing volume goes is the volume of the lowest!
I would have got a new phone by now, but warranty pays for it full of charge so I wasn't gonna waste my money. And just the other day the time on the display front was upside down and back wards! Another thing .. calls get dropped so much with this phone, and the screen goes black randomly. I am so glad to be getting a new phone. It's weird because I usually have no problem with LG phones, I usually like them..EXCEPT for this one..... oh well.
p.s.- Don't get this phone, you're asking for trouble! Good Luck
Boring
This phone is really boring. It looks ugly, has too few features, a sort of washed out screen, but voice quality is okay, if you can put up with LG build quality.
So-So phone
The first phone I got dialed people automatically, which not only increased my phone bill substantially but caused a lot of confusion and embarrassment. When I tried to return the phone, Verizon did not believe me since they "couldn't replicate the problem" on demand. This was very frustrating! They did end up giving me another phone, which only seems to have dialed other people a few times. Otherwise it seems fine. However, after about six months, the phone would not connect to the the charger and so won't recharge the battery. I've had to use electrical tape to hold it on there and that doesn't always work. I got a car charger, and when I plug it in, the phone says the battery is fully charged when it isn't. Again, very frustrating. I had my Audiovox phone for about 6 years and never had any problems! Unfortunately, I have to wait another year before I can get another phone.
Worst Phone I Ever Owned
Had a 6000 - best phone I ever owned so went out and bought this one. Dropped calls, poor reception, speaker volume going nuts - did I mention dropped calls.
Just returned the third one to Verizon - three strikes you're out. Getting a new Samsung. Heard Verizon discontinued the 4500 too.
