Motorola v60p / v60s
Average Ratings
Works for me
I read all of the reviews here before buying my V60S. Most of the issues can easily be resolved if you take the time to learn the phone and upgrade the capabilities.
I was using an LG510 prior to the 60s. I found that the signal range is comparable to most LG phones. some dropped calls in low signal areas but for the most part it does its job. I am not a person who wants all kinds of bells and whistles so this phones feature set suits me fine. I really like the speaker phone. It comes in handy. What I do not like is the Motorola belt clip (which I had to buy separately from Verizon Wireless for 15$!) there is about a half of an inch gap from he phone to the clip which makes the phone stick much farther out then most and is very annoying. The vibrating features could be more powerful and the gap on the clip doesnt help this either.
All and all its a pretty solid phone. I do have to charge it once a day so I am considering getting the extended battery which you can find on line for the half the price of what verizon or moto will charge you.
Solid Phone
Have had the v60s through Cellular One for about a month now. I drive a diesel stick shift truck so I got this phone for the speaker phone which allows me to drive hands free with phone on console. Speaker phone is awesome-I sometimes use it for long calls just because I get tired of holding it to my ear. I can send and receive with the speaker phone even over the sound of the loud diesel engine. The only thing I don't like about this phone is that the alarm is awkward to use. This is my 5th or 6th cell phone and it is by far the best I have used.
V60s
This phone is trash. I had went through 5 in my first two months of service. Poor speaker, not ringing(3), not charging. It drops too many calls. The software is very slow; my three year old Kyocera was a far more advanced and functional phone. Fare thee well Verizon... I will never be back.
v60s What a phone!
I've owned v60 series phones for several years and have always been happy with their durability, long battery life and features. Recently, I purchesed the v60s and was blown away by the new speaker function and loud tones. This phone is awesome (do recomend the extended battery though as speakphone does use up the battery faster).
Pros: Awesome speaker function, loud phonic tones, same slick metallic design as the older models.
Cons: Really thick with extended battery. Cannot use speaker function without having to flip open the phone (funny thing is that you can with the car mount)
Awsome Phone!
This phone is a great phone for people who are intested in making calls not all the other bells and whistles of other phones. The speaker phone is terrific, very clear and reliable. Perfect phone for me, hey if i wanted to take a picture id buy a camera. and if i wanted to listen to music id turn on the radio these are just some things phones where never intended for and shouldn't be.
B+ but Needs Improvments
I have had the verizon v60p for a good 7 months now and the only problem i have with the phone is that the connection will randlonly cut out when i am talking on my phone. it could also use a color screen. Also i understand that verizon has just entered the market in the PTT game. i am a firm believer in verizon and i know they will improve there PTT speed. For now i think they should work on coming out with new PTT phones real soon. There are a lot of people out there that need another reason to buy the PTT for verizon. New and better phones would be a good marketing technique.
A good phone all around
I read a lot of negative reviews about the V60 series phones, but my personal experience with Motorola products has always been positive.
Now that I've had my V60s for about a month, I love it. The phone works great, the features are easy to use, and it had great reception. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 rating was the due to the screen. It could be a little easier to read.
I would not hesitate to recommend this phone.
Some updates available
In response to "Major Flaw", there are some recent developments that would help those with these issues;
First, the missed calls / no ring issue has been address at length - it turns out that one of the members found it was eliminated if you set the keypad tones to at least "1" on all five ring profiles -do a search here and on Howard Forums and you will find much discussion.
Second, you can set the speakerphone feature to "time out" after 20 seconds of no use, it also times out 20 sec after you end a call. This eliminates the answering with speakerphone on by mistake issue.
Third, Verizon now has a software update that seemed to make my v60s better overall; including battery life & speed of menus.
Finally, you can set the phonebook to act more like the phonebook in the good old Star-Tac; Those who recall, the Star-Tac allowed us to locate a name and then use the up/down buttons to scroll through the multiple numbers for that name. WELL, the v60s/v60p seemed to only allow for multiple entries for each name and did not consolidate them. You can change this by opening the phonebook, then hit the menu button (center top) this will allow you to scroll to "set-up", then select "view" and change it to "primary". Now it will act like the Star-Tac and you can use the bottom left/right arrow keys (*/#) to scroll through the numbers for each contact.
Finally, for the battery life; it does depend on your use and location. If your phone hits or looks for an analog signal, this will eat the battery much faster. Be sure you have the latest PRL in your phone by dialing *228 and selecting "option 2". I also recommend using the extended battery (SNN5705) as this gives about 40% better life (for me). Since the SNN5705 is used in many Motorola phones for the past 4-5 years, you can find them fairly reasonably priced - do an internet search and you'll see.
I find the phone to be very "standard" and that works for many folks, including me :-)
Hoppy
Mediocre Moto
The V60 series, in general, are less than stellar. Too many sound quality problems, battery issues and dropped calls seem to be a flagship of Motorola phones. The PTT feature on the V60P is nice, though - very solid. However; overall, V60 is not a good buy, believe me. When Motorola makes a decent phone, someone please let me know (sarcasm)!
