Ugly phone with beautiful features

Jul 22, 2004 by azzaro

This phone is wonderful. If you like a phone with good looks and no brains (no blonde pun intended), then DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!

The Nokia 6230 lacks the stunning looks of some of it's competitors, but when it comes to features and performace, it's got no match.

Pros:
- nice and compact
- very good camera (one of the best I've seen)
- very good speaker
- MP3!!!
- MMC
- ... endless

Cons:
- boring looks
- 5-way button works funny

perfect

GREAT PHONE, OK service

In my opinion, this is the closest you get to a Blackberry + Walkman + iPod without 3 devices!!

The PC data synch using the FREE Nokia PC Suite is VERY easy!! It synchs my contacts & calendar totally cake. I upgrade the multi-media card, threw a bunch of MP3's, and play MP3's on my train ride into work. If I get bored, guess what? It's got a pretty neat golf game and a GPRS radio w/ decent reception (the headset cord is the antenna). It's got a decent video camera that records up to 4 minutes and you can email or synch the files to share with your friends. The camera is decent too.

Now for the real functionality. The phone is actually very good.
+ The speakerphone is one of the best that I've ever used.
+ Battery life is fantastic. I charge this puppy every 3 days.
+ The screen is great - very vibrant and sharp.
+ Call quality is very good
+ Very lightweight but feels of very sturdy and good quality
+ Very good tactile feel with the buttons

- The only main con is the menu. I had to read the menu to get a few of the more advanced features.
- Rear cover is a little tricky to pull off
- The reception is OK but that's Cingular's fault for the Chicago-land area. My SPRINT PCS service was actually better (never thought I would say that!!)

Was really tough

I got this phone on cingular and it was a GREAT phone. I loved all of the features. I even dropped it around a lot and it still worked as good as when I got it.

I even got it wet, I was washing my hands and the phone fell in. When I saw it and my shock of it falling in I still grabbed it fast, and it worked still afterwards. Get it if you can

Too bad i can't give this phone a 6!

This is the best mid-end phone since the Nokia 6255 that I had during the short lived time that I was with Alltel. If att didn'd cripple their Nokia phones, then I'd buy another one!

Pros:
Strong Signal
Awesome battery
Good camera/video for being VGA
Very compact.
Is NOT a flip phone, like recent Nokia phones are.
Has a built-in sync feature.
FM Radio (Which att needs to stop removing from their Nokia phones).
MP3 format.
Bluetooth and Infrared, uncut.
It has Edge, which allows me to access real web pages.

Cons:
It came with nothing but a 32MB card.
Low internal memory, which is typical of most Nokia phones I've used (I.e. 6255, 3220, 6101, 6102, 6620, 6682 and 6126).

This phone is old, but what a mid end phone should be. If you can find one, get one!

So sad to see it go :(

All good things must come to an end, and my trusted Nokia 6230 is on its way to a quiet retirement as backup. After 2 and a half years of daily use, it no longer rings when someone calls, but everything else still works great! Here's the low down..

PROS:
* Great call quality and signal strength on the T-Mobile prepaid network in SF Bay Area.
* Super loud speaker phone works great!
* Easy to use menu system.
* Lot's of connectivity options: GPRS, bluetooth and infrared. It's almost impossible to find a phone w/ infrared these days.
* Built in FM tuner (needs Nokia headphones to work)
* It was a popular model, so it is easy to find accessories like batteries and covers on eBay.

CONS:
* The camera and video recorder are low resolution by today's standards.
* The screen isn't sealed well, so dust can get in between the cover and LCD.
* 4 way navigation button is a little tricky since it's combined w/ the select button. It's easy to choose the wrong menu item if you are not careful.

In short, if you're looking for phone that will provide years of great service and don't mind that it has been discontinued, don't hesitate to pick up a gently used one on eBay. I'm still looking for a replacement that can live up to its standards. Maybe the Nokia 6300?

Best Nokia to date

I have owned the 6230 for 2.5 years and have loved every minute of it. It is indestructible and has served me very well.
Pros: Lightweight, compact, all options one could want, EXCELLENT battery life, EXCELLENT reception. Rarley drops calls and has service when others (other brand phones and carriers other than AT&T).
Cons: None. I have seen and heard of the software freezes, but have experienced no difficulty with mine whatsoever. I wish it was still available as I would buy another.

Like many Others have Said - Best Phone I've Had

Mar 25, 2007 by eaglebqh

I've had my 6230 for 2 years and I've always said it was the best phone I've had - bar none! I've tried to upgrade to newer phones and to date haven't kept one yet 'cause they're just not near the phone that the 6230 is.

I've had the RAZR's - even the V3xx - and returned them 'cause they just didn't match up. To the reviewer that got a new one and it didn't match up with his RAZR ... you either got a bad phone or it was a T-Mobile problem. I average 1,200 - 1,500 minutes / month on calls and I charge the phone on average once-a-week.

I'm wanting to upgrade to the N75 like a lot of others - but even then if it doesn't work as advertised I'll go back to my trusty 6230. Even if the N75 does measure up the 6230 will maintain backup status (even though I had to unlock it to get it to work with a 3G SIM card).

If you can find one - get it !!

Perfection come in mind!

Best phone ever! You get everything in one package. I got mine for 100 bucks! Very satisfied with it, it's fun to text, and sound quality on both ends, close to perfection!

The only drawback i have is the loose battery back cover. But if you replace it with the 6230i back cover, it'll tighten it up like nobody's business! I love my 6230 . Very professional/business man look to it.

And i love non flip nokia phones. Perfect! Thanks nokia!
