SO - SO PHONE
If you are a Nokia fan, and prefer a flip then this is a great phone for you. If you need or want something with more bells and whistles, then this is most definitely NOT for you. This is a phone first, all other things second and in some cases not at all. I was disappointed because of the lack of an email client. According to the spec sheet here, it has one, but it seems as though the Cingular branded phones have no email client.I was willing to go without the Bluetooth, but as an IT contractor, email is essential. I will most likely be going back to a Nokia 6620. If any Nokia reps are reading this, PLEASE, PLEASE create a flip with BT, Email and a decent camera with quadband or 850 band and we WILL buy it!!
PRO'S
* Nice looking
* Clear screen
* Solid feel
* Good size
* Decent camera
CON'S
* No Email client
* No bluetooth
* Change of charging/data cable adapters
Okay, but not for me
everything the reviews say is essentially true, in my short experience with this phone:
pros
- it's a nokia :-)
- it looks great
- it gets good reception (though not appreciably better than my samsung e105, which supposedly gets terrible reception)
- the battery lasts forever
cons
- the volume is very soft
- it's a little bulkier than other clamshells
- a lot of the settings are buried in menus
i was hoping it wouldn't be, but honestly, the volume problem is a deal killer. in my very quiet apartment, i still had to strain to hear the other party. i'll just stick with my samsung for a while.
What is the purpose of a phone?
The whole purpose of a phone is to communicate. I was fustrated with a samsung I had before because the voice on the other side sounded muddy and choopy at times. I guy at T-mobile told me Nokia phones were superior quality, so I tried this phone. The size and the fact that it was a flip phone was nice, but the volume on it is very low. If I can't communicate with my customers clearly, it is useless. I don't mind paying good money if I can get a phone that does two basic things: Carry my voice clearly to my customers and viceversa.
I love Nokia!
This is my 4th phone from Tmobile. I've had an older motorola, The Nokia 6010, Nokia 3220, and now the 6101. This phone has beaten all of those others hands down. I only had the 3220 for about 3 months, but then I saw this phone and I just had to have it. I've always liked flip phones more than non-flip. Easier to talk to people, and you can just close the phone and it hangs up. This phone has so many pro's.
Pro's:
-Great reception in the Central Florida area, even the almost dead spots on I4.
-Great color screen
-Ability to set screen savers of your own pictures to both displays (internal and external)
-Speaker phone *You can close the phone and still talk on the speaker phone, great quality so you don't have to hold the phone open forever, just close it and go on about your day*
-Radio is great *especially for me since I don't have working speakers in my car, plus the ability to put the speaker phone on with the radio, no need to wear uncomfortable ear buds*
-Great camera considering it's a phone
-Video *also great*
-GREAT Nokia quality *i've dropped this phone about 3 times straight onto concrete and still works great, but that's Nokia for ya*
-Clip Art *which allows for adding "cutesy" stuff to your pictures, like frames, hearts, alien ears...etc*
-3 IM Clients *AIM, Yahoo, ICQ*
-HiFi Ringers *real songs*
-Same profiles with all Nokia's
-Volume is fine *unless your guiding Jumbo Jets to land and talking on your phone, the volume is fine*
-Relatively cheap $124.99
Cons:
-The only qripe I have with this phone is that when your in a menu and you close the phone it stays on the display. So when you open the phone again that menu will still be there. No big deal for me though.
My boyfriend paid over 200$ for his RAZR and wants to get my phone instead. His RAZR is always dropping calls, but that's another campfire review.
All in all this phone is great. I reccommend it highly!!!

Nokia quality in a flip...can't ask for more...
Recently purchased this phone for my mom and it's been great so far. I've been able to use this phone for a few days and hasn't let me down. My mom loves this phone (big step up from a Samsung x427m). Also, Nokia quality in a clamshell form factor...NICE!!
Pros:
*Excellent RF (It's a Nokia, duh!)
*Speakerphone
*EDGE support
*Great sounding call quality and loud ringers
*Typical Nokia quality
Cons:
*Volume is a little low. I had to use the highest earpiece volume setting.
*No bluetooth
*Main display a tad on the small side
*Biggest gripe: Why did nokia change the charger? Need an adapter if you want to use your nokia car or other chargers.
My best phone yet!
The 6102 (Cingular version) gets great reception around Seattle. It doesn't drop calls and has the best sound of any cell phone I've used so far. It has made conversations with my Grandparents while walking my dog much more enjoyable. Like all Nokia phones, it is easy to navigate the menus and intutively set up. The menu set-up on the 6102 is even better than my last Nokia phone.
Also, if you go to the Cingular store, they can transfer you phone book over from your old phone / sim card.
Pros
- Strong signal / voice
- Speakerphone
- Easy menus
- Easy phonebook
- Camera is easy to use, but of poor quality (hey it is a phone)
Cons
- Ringtone selection sucks (can't a phone just ring!)
- Camera is what you'd expect for a phone (not very good).
- I hate sending text messages without a QWERTY keyboard
Enjoy!
Another Solid Nokia
After having a Nokia 6610 for two years that I loved I was expecting to find something about this phone that I didn't like. I was wrong! This phone has all the features I wanted. It gets just as good signal as my 6610 and has an amazing battery life. What I like most is that the phone feels very sturdy not like some of the other flip phones that I sell (I work for T-Mobile). It's easy to use and extremely customizable down the the font color on the main screen so you can see it with any background picture. My only complaint is the non-standard charger, but that is a very small complaint. Overall I will be recommending this phone to anyone.
Nokia 6102 is average
The Nokia 6102 on Cingular is great when it comes to call quality and holding calls. So it's certainly a good phone in those regards. Build quality is great as well.
When it comes to using the Media Net service, it's very difficult to navigate, especially since the buttons are very small and difficult to push. The navigation key is placed too far apart to use it to it's full potential, even when navigating through the menus. Text messaging is tough at least.
The web browser and Java software are great though, it's fast and loads most Media sites.
If you're looking to buy this phone, I say it's an average phone, consider what you're using it for first.
A Great phone but one problem
I just got this phone and I couldn't wait to use it. I was a lil' skeptical by what was said about its soft volume, but I had to try it out myself. I love the phone, BUT the volume is a big problem and I can't last a year or two with not being able to hear who I'm talking to. So unfortunately I'll be taking it back. But here are my pros and cons:
Pros: nice look, external lcd, loud ringer, its a nokia!
Cons: speaker volume, a lil' bulky compared to some, camera is so-so, very few ringtones to select from
i love this phone
i love everything about this phone -for the price you cannot get any better-it has a loud ring -you could never miss calls -its easy to navigate -the only thing i wish it could go is zoom the pictures you are taking before you snap the picture .bit thats okay -there are a lot of neat functions on this phone and the battery life is amazing
