LG VX-4500
Average Ratings
Best Phone I've had in Six years
The phone works great, support is great, software is great. I normally get a new phone every three months I've had this one for almost a year months.
PROs. Reception is great, everything is great.
Cons none
Be carefull with the Flip!
After 2 mos with the phone, I just had an expensive experience. Opened the phone to answer a call and when I put the flip against my face it snapped in two. The VZW store told me with any flip phone you need to put your finger on the back of the flip so this does not happen. I have never seen this before. The phone was not repairable and I needed to purchase a new phone. It was not the 4500.
In any event, I did give the phone a fairly good rating since overall it was a good phone. I use several thousand minutes per month and I found I needed to buy the extended battery to get through the day. Also when charging, the external display lights up constantly which is annoying at night.
I previously used a Samsung I600 and the reception on the 4500 was much better. Still many times when the phone showed 1 or 2 bars of service you were not able to make a call. Obviously the phone does not have a camera which is not a big deal since I have not seen a cell phone that took a good picture yet.
Overall this is a good phone; just be carefull with the flip.
Great potential but short on execution
I've had this phone for just over 2 months. It replaced a Motorola V60i. I wanted a phone with speakerphone and external display. I have no interest in camera and GIN. Except for the lack of analog, this phone had exactly what I was looking for.
The bad news is that in two months, I have had two broken phones. I am taking in my 2nd phone today to get it replaced and I don't think I'll stay with the VX4500.
The first phone developed issues with calls being dropped (verified by VZW) and was replaced. The 2nd phone just had the speaker phone blow out (and I never use it on high). Without the speakerphone, I can't hear it ring unless I'm close enough to hear it ring through the earpiece. Unsat.
I just want a phone that works reliably. No fancy frills/cameras/GIN, etc. Sadly, I'm still looking for that phone. I may give up the speakerphone option for a better quality phone, if I can find one. And I still want analog capability too... just in case. I travel all over the US and some into Canada and Mexica/Central America.
Pros:
-size
-color display
-external display very readable
-voice recognition and dialing are excellent
-speakerphone works great (if not blown out)
-battery lasts a long time
-driving mode
Cons:
-quality control? (what else would cause 2 phones to break in 2 months?)
-voice dial won't drill down past the primary number if you have more than one number setup for a contact)
-charging on the included charger requires that you remove the lower half of the leather case
-phone heats up with use (a common complaint with *all* phones from what I've read)
-internal display very washed out in sunlight (OTOH, I haven't seen any other phones that do any better)
-driving mode with headset won't direct the incoming call announcement to the headset
good times.
PROs
speakerphone is very loud, which is grrreat especially since i could barely hear my vx3200.
color screen is a plus
very good ringtone selection compared to my last phone.
voice activation was a cinch to figure out and very convinent.
did i mention great reception?
the status indicator lights are fun.
CONs
it doesnt show a charging status on the lcd's
the outer lcd doesnt have multiple color backlights
all in all great phone.
Only a little disappointed
I've been a Verizon customer since 2001, and have always had an LG model. The first being the 510, which I was happy with, albeit a little bulky.
I bought the 4500 a couple of days ago after extensive research and the reading of many reviews. Overall, I have to say that I liked the phone. It was a little frustrating at first, trying to learn how to program everything, but you soon figure it out. The manual has a lot to be desired.
I'm just a little hard of hearing, so I need a phone with a good solid high volume on the ear piece. I found myself struggling to hear a few people, and had to turn off everything around me to hear them. Very frustrating. I also had a hard time hearing people with the headset, but I have a feeling that was the actual gear.
The other disappointment was the easy to find full month calendar that I'm used to I'm my old phone. Was not on this phone at all. If it was I couldn't find it.
Other than that, everything was great. I've had to buy the next best thing, which I believe is the LG6000. Although I'll never use the camera, and do not want one, I didn't have much choice.
I'm still trying it out.
LG VX4500
I just wanted to say that the speaker phone does work with the phone closed. My husband has one and I have played around with it. It only works when you receive incoming calls.
1. Make sure your phone is in driving mode.
2. Once this is done when you receive an incoming call, a voice will ask if you would like to accept this call, simply say yes and you will be able to talk with the phone closed.
seems like a good phone at first...
I was really excited to get this phone. I had been researching phones for awhile and finally decided on this one when it came out. It seems like a good phone, and don't get me wrong, it does have some amazing features. However, the few problems I had were enough to take the phone back yesterday and am now back to using my old phone.
Pros:
- the voice activated features are great! I didn't even mind all the steps many people have been complaining about.
- speakerphone was very handy... that was one deciding factor for me since I'd been wanting one after seeing my friend always use his on his Nextel phone and what a great feature it seemed like
Cons:
- the screen is horrible!!!! It was time for me to get a color screen, and honestly had not been impressed with my friend's lg vx6000 so decided against a camera phone. The screen appears blurry and like you're looking through a lot to see the picture. Definitely not the quality of the 6000 or 4400. If I had to keep this phone for 2 years I couldn't handle that.
- I lost a lot of calls! I don't think it even was completely because this phone isn't tri-mode which my old (& current) one is because I would lose reception in places I never had any problems with before, and that nobody else seems to have problems in. Also, I lost a lot of calls at my house and it's kind of hard to have a cell phone that you can't use at your house.
So those are the major points I have to make about the phone. I might try out the new samsung, but I don't know if I'll like not having an outside display. Might wait to try the new Motorola 810 when it's released. Good luck!
Not too shabby!
I just purchased this phone. So far, so good, mostly. My only slight complaint is the inside display, sometimes not as bright as other phones. I have toyed with both the brightness and contrast and can't seem to get it quite right. However, it's readable, and not that big of a deal.
Although the outside of the phone has the shiny part (which smudges easily), I think it adds a "little something extra" to the appearance of the phone.
The speaker phone is pretty neat! I did a "test call" and the person on the other line said they could hear me just fine. I had the phone clipped to the visor of my car.
I would recommend this phone...
LG VX4500 - GREAT PHONE...
My service is Verizon Wireless on Long Island, NY.
This phone is awesome, and has great features for those who just want a normal cell phone, without all of the bells and whistles. The speaker is WAY loud, so just be careful when you have it on. If you need to adjust the volume in accordance to the person you are speaking with, make sure you choose the level you wish to have it on, then press OK, otherwise it will not stay on that volume. The menu is simple, and the voice commands are great!
The only problem I had, was with the service. I had alot of dropped calls and issues with dialing calls. Since this phone is all digital, you have to be cautious of what area you are in before you purchase. For Long Island, they suggest a tri-mode phone. Overall, excellent phone.
I recently returned the phone for a tri-mode and went with the Audiovox CDM-8900. Same menu layout, but crappy speaker phone. But again, I can make and keep calls. So its well worth it.
Much research before buying
did a lot of research on phones (having owned sayno/sumsung/sprint) sprint customer service is poor. Verizon in this area (arizona) is the best. If i want to take pictures I will use my digital camera. The phone has the advanced features that i required. It often displays full bar signal when the samsung displays one in the same location. the instruction book is poorely written but one can figure out how to use the features by trail and error. the phone is not perfect but it also "inexpensive" when compared to others with simular features. it appears to be well made (keyboard could be better) but overall the phone seems sturdy enough to last through my contract period, of course time will tell about that. i have nothing to write about when it comes to cons. if you buy it and don't like it you are not going to be out a lot of money.
