Jan 4, 2005 by goosu100

This phone is absolutely remarkable..I have had it for a week now, and it does everything i wished for, and much more. Verizon Wirless is offering it for $100 with a $50 mail-in-rebate.... Plus it has a buy 1 get up to 3 free deal, which is awesome!!! I would definetly recommend this phone.. Samsung you did great on the phone.. And Verizon great price... Gotta love the phone.

Truly a Remarkable Handset

I've just received a Samsung SCH-A670 from my provider, Verizon, and I find it to be one of the best mobile phones I have ever used. The fit and finish of the phone is remarkable. The cover snaps down and lifts into open position with a smooth feel and no play. There is no side play of the front panel when closed or open which is often the case with other less engineered phones.
The internal display is sharp, though a tad bit smaller than I would like it to be, with good color saturation. The external display has three display options included (two analog and one digital clock), but the user has no way to easily see it without opening the front panel which turns on the backlight. Some other clamshell phones let the user use an external button to turn on the backlight.
The signal strength is excellent, much better than the Motorola and Nokia phones of which I am familiar with. Although it does not sport a tri band signal configuration, users considering this phone should not worry about the lack of an analog capability unless they plan to use it in a very remote location. I bought this phone primarily for a communication device, but I'm impressed with the included camera. All in all, this is one excellent phone. Only wishes: speaker phone capability, more control over display options (which could be addressed by a simple software manipulation) and more included ringtones. I will include any additional findings as they become apparent, but I expect that they will only be positive.

Stunning little device.....a real beauty!!

Thoroughly love and enjoy this phone. Great call quality and clarity. Camera works superbly with outstanding color quality. The phone has so many features and accessories that after 3 months of ownership I am still finding new things out.
I love its size and look of quality and sophistication. The keypad colors are stunning at night.

My only con and the one thing that almost prevented me from purchasing the phone is the lack of a speaker phone.

I love it, but..

I owned a LG VX6000 phone before this. I was past the 15 day supposed "return time" as the radioshack people told me but they said they would be nice and let me swap out. I really wanted a Samsung phone, and this is very similar to the one sprint has offered..

There has been some.. odd things happening though. Girlfriend, the sole reason I have this phone, said I sound like i'm talking through a tunnel and very distant. Father has also noted a lack in clarity. More over, the phone has started to get laggy. Originally the background image moved smooth (not very, as its just image over image, but smoother then now), but now its gotten very slow, to the point of not moving. Background movie images don't work at all either, they start to lag. ANY insight would be greatly appreciated.

The phone itself is amazingly solid, though hard to open with one hand, something I had perfected with the VX6000 phone. The LG VX6000 has better features, but this one is far better built.

Pros: Realitively OK battery life. Great reception. Very nice picture count (at least 200 at lowest resolution, which is all you need on a phone). Video ability is nice and will be interesting ;) Fits well in my hand, buttons are large enough for my fingers.

Cons: Only two video's can be taken. Hopefully this is simply due to the lack of service to move them anywhere, and hopefully possible to hack to something better later (e.g. take advantage of ALL the storage space). More over, you cannot send them -- not that I want to though. The phone begins to lag when its trying to draw the movie as a background. Passive Matrix is only slightly cheaper I wonder why they went with that over Active Matrix.

Being honest, its a fine phone. It does have draw backs, as any. I give it a high rating due to the fact I liked it. As this is an opinion isn't it.

Any help is appreciated, mail@daunity.org Thanks :) I may contact Radioshack.. If anyone else has this problem or the lack of it, please tell me.

Great Phone

Pros
Voice dialing
Camera is pretty good
Very nice small form factor
Beautiful clear display
Reception GREATTTTT...

Cons
Battery Life (if you really talk)

I have had the phone with Verizon long enough to rack up 333 mins of talk time. Mostly in the car driving thru different areas (with ear bud). Never had a dropped call. I just wish the battery life was longer. Ring tones are ok. I feel they are pretty basic which is fine with me. All that you have to do is enter your contacts and voice dial works. No need to record the name of each contact to set up voice dial.

AWESOME....but...

Overall this is one great phone. It has a couple small flaws (all non-phone operation related) but they are minor. I switched to Verizon and received two of these phones after 8 yrs with T-Mobile. I hated giving up my Motorola V300 (the most perfect cell phone ever in my opinion) but it was worth it in the long run. The coverage is so much better (can finally get reception at haystack Rock on the Oregon coast). This phone has great, clear reception; an attractive small body; vibrant primary display, and great construction. The phone just seems solid, sturdy and well built unlike the LG phones that seem cheaply made to me. I especially love the ability to add both a pic and a ringtone to each contact. The only issues I have had are the lower ring volume than I was used to with my V300 and the fact that I cannot get custom wallpaper uploaded from my computer via vzxpix.com to format correctly (a feature the phone is supposed to possess). I am even fine with the battery life. It seems to last alot longer after a weeks use now than it did when I first got it. As for getting warm; any phone with an external battery pack will have this issue.

Pros:
styling/construction (love the blue key lights)
call clarity (like a land line phone)
signal strength (even in my home)
vibrant primary screen
camera w/video
picture id for contacts
custom ringtone for contacts
size/weight
fast web browser

Cons:
color (would have prefered lighter silver)
flashing verizon banner
ringtones could be louder
no speaker phone (even though I never used it on my old phone it made ringtones very loud)

Nice phone

I thought the phone was nice, it is smaller than the A610 I had before, but not any more features. I am having a hard time with the battery right now, I used it on the first day and added my contacts, and viewed a few get it now options. The battery was just about dead, I charged it up again, and a used it a few times and had to charge the battery again. So I don't know if it is the battery or just how the phone will be. I do like the looks, and feels very durable. I liked how the A610 camera could swivel, but I don't use the camera feature all that much anyways. There is not much to choose from for wallpapers, on inside or outside display, you have to download them and there are not very many apps for get it now currently. Over time I am sure they will come, but until then I will try a new battery and if that fixes the problem, I also had issues with the text, not sure if its my phone or the phone it is being sent form, it delayed on random texts.

pros: size, durability. signal (Verizon Wireless) display is clear. Easy to use on menu features.

cons: battery is short lived. camera doesn't swivel. video recording is a waste of space and time, very poor. should have left it off. Ringers not very loud.

Excellent Phone

I have been a motorola faithful since I started with cellular telephones. I Decided to give another company a chance, because I got tired of waiting for the v710. I have to say that I am truly pleased taht I did. The 670 is an excellent phone. Call quality is superb. If any body has a chance to try it I definately recomend it. The design is superior to others on the market in the same genre. Camera is smooth.

Excellent Value

This is a great phone, it looks tight, pictures come out clean, and the screens are both looking good. The only problem is in the video. Don't get this phone if you want a video phone. Get it if you want a good picture phone. You can only have about two vids, and they are pretty choppy, and there is no way to send the video to anyone. The quality is high in the individual frames though, there is just too few of them. You can have video screen savers, and caller id, which is cool.
But considering that you can get this phone for $79.99, and that Verizon phones are usually on the expensive side, especially at launch, this is a very value packed phone.

External LCD Does Light Up

Oct 4, 2004 by drakar23

For all those still confused, if you hold down the volume key for 1 second when the phone is closed, the LCD will light up. The ringers are softer when you are previewing them, which is a cool feature but trust me, when someones calls and you have it on 5 you will certainly hear it. Didn't want a speaker phone, not a problem since this one isn't advertised as one.

Pros: Small size, excellent clarity and signal, extensive menus, very loud ring tones, takes good pictures, can take pictures with the phone closed, crisp color screen, low profile, all digital (since analog will be gone in a couple years)

Con: Have yet to find the mute button when on a call. No external vibration button.
