Nokia 6230
Average Ratings
This is a prime-time phone.
This is easily my favorite phone I've owned and I've had quite a few phones in my past. I upgraded to this phone after using the Motorola V600, but I recently killed teh 6230 by dropping it in a pool. Doh! After, I got a temporary Samsung E335 which I hated and then got a K700i, which is comparable in every way.
But back to this phone -- It simply rocks! It's very easy to navigate, runs quickly, has a gargantuan amount of features and they all work, or almost all of them! Actually the only feature that did not work was the browser which is a bug in the firmware and since I bought this one overseas, I couldn't get it upgraded from Nokia USA. Argh!
But besides that, the bluetooth works great, the FM Radio works fine (you cant complain about the headset requirement because all other phones require it too), and the MP3 feature works exceptional. The added memory card slot is a very nice bonus since the phone's internal memory is lacking.
The speakerphone works very well and is easy to turn on and use. It's actually these simple things, such as ease of use and working features that make this phone so great. It doesn't try to impress you with anything. The looks and UI are fairly basic, but it's loaded with so much its overwhelming.
Oh and yea the biggest and best feature of this phone? No, not the video camera capability -- it's the antenna strength! This has to be best GSM phone I've used in terms of RF performance. I was able to get signal in places other phones I've used weren't able to. That's a super bonus.
so...
Pros:
Signal strength, TONS of features, ease of use, MMC expandable, perfect size, bluetooth, IR, FM radio, MP3, speakerphone, video camera, changeable faces,
Cons:
basic looks, camera quality is iffy, browser in the firmware i used was faulty
8 months & feed up
This has been a hard 8 months, I have replaced the phone, send it off for repairs twice, & will be sending it off again.
Nokia has tried to fix it. The phone has been update by cingular. Here is a good idea.....When you say a feature is on the phone make sure it will works on that phone.
Problems are;
Phone reboots when you bring it out of standby mode. a few times a day. reboots 2 times in a row. It has for the passed week rebooted during a calls becuase I go to use the calculator, or the calendar.
Some how the 6230 resets the Contact memory to shared in stead of sim card only. have lost contacts when the phone has been shipped off.
Will drop Bluetooth. Sometimes you try to turn it on, it will stay off. Must turn the phone off then back on. Bluetooth Volumes will reset to half. 6230 with JABRA 250 must be on the lowest volume 4 me. To loud in my ears.
Bluetooth to mac or xp will drop big files 1 MB plus.
Have had better luck with mac. Speakerphone will at times get stuck on, meaning the phone will only anwser in speakerphone mode. Try to turn off Speakerphone, no go, must reset the phone.
Camera is poor & way back froze up (software up date).
Music player will just drop the sound, still counting the time.must reboot the phone. media player see music player. Video is poor.
Batt. life is poor, rechange everyday, & still must us CLA.
I talk, email alot. 4000+ mins. per month, 100+ emails.
Pros;
Ok for a basic phone use.
Loud speaker is loud. Great with Bluetooth headset while it last. small keys. Easy to hold. IR works well. Voice record anything & play as ringtone.
Trying to get cingular to replace with a anothe phone.
Not a nokia.
Not Worth All The Hype
This phone is a great phone with all the features it has, the mp3 player, the memory for holding cds the camera its excellent not to mention the bluetooth capablity. The phone would be even better if it actually worked. This phone has been returned so many times its not even funny. The phone has the potential to be great and then it doesnt work like it should, one of my co-workers has this phone and she fell in love with it now she hates it because it wont come off of speaker phone, well it did after she threw it and stomped on it. Overall in my opinion its not worth the headache that it gives
Excellent phone!
The only thing that prevent me to give it a 5 in rating its the screen. Ive seen better screens and the icons aren't visible with wallpapers and if u go outside the screen washes away quite a bit. Anyway that's a minor issue, the phone itself is so good that u forget about that.
Pros:
-Rf performance
-Friendly UI
-Good battery life
-Clean design looks
-Blue-tooth works great
-IR, Expansion card, VGA camera, Speaker phone, EDGE.
-Looks cool and masculine, i hate flashing lights, cute bugs, smallish flip phones.
-Not expensive considering the feature content.
Cons:
-horrible wallpapers
-lame ring tones
-so so screen
-no cam flash
Excellent product. I totally recommend it!

Speakerphone
Radio (just have to buy the headset to use it)

Cons:
Small screen
Phone style is not that appealing
Overall, awesome phone but hey it's whatever float your boat.
Best Kept Secret
Don't be put off by how simple this phone looks. As bland as it appears, it's stuffed with features. Just moved from T-mobile to Cingular, and tho I could keep my old Nokia 3650, (which I loved) the 6230 had the 850Mhz frequency needed for best reception. This phone has all the features of the 3650 plus a very high quality FM receiver and MP3 player. Had my doubts, but everything works great. Very simple process to move an mp3 tune from iTunes library to the phone memory card using bluetooth. Suprisingly good FM radio quality for such a small phone. Like the 3650, this phone is easy to connect to either a PDA or computer via bluetooth or infrared to turn the phone into a simple (but rather slow) dial up modem. (Cingular requires an extra $4 to turn on this feature; it's free with T-mobile). Signal strength is OK; I'm in a troubled cell phone area, which seems to affect all phones, but no complaints on this phone.
Only cons come from my daughter who thinks it looks like a thoroughly boring phone. Nokia didn't splurge on the physical design of the phone. If you are looking to impress by carrying a dazzlingly designed phone, buy the Motorola Razor V3, but you'll find the Nokia has more features for 1/3 the price. Size is also a plus. Nokia has packed so much into this phone, including music and photos, who needs an iPod? (this from an Apple fanatic).
Make sure to spend the extra $30 to buy the stereo earbud headphones. The FM won't work without them since the headset cable acts as the antenna, and standard iPod earbuds won't fit the Nokia receptor.
Very impressive phone
Sound quality is the best. everything you want from a phone, you can find from 6230.
Good one
Small phone can do everything. Amazing. This is a good phone for reasonable price. Phone has a lot of features such as Bluetooth,radio,mp3,camera,video,voice recorder, customizable images and so on. you can even put text on the pictures. this is great. you can create a picture with text that you want to put.
Therefore, this is a creative phone.
Awesome
This phone is the bomb. It literally has Everything and anything you need for business or play. The games look amazing. Considering that only a year ago the same size phone could only do a quarter of what this one does. Love the Radio and the speaker phone feature. The video needs some improvement. Other than that ... highly recommended. I only had problems with the memory card but very minor.
