Performance overshadowed by average features

Jan 31, 2002 by demonZ3

Overall, the Q105 performs well. Voice reception is clear. I am told voice transmission is clear s well. However, the actual features of the phone are not totally as described on the Samsung site. There is no calculator and only one alarm. This phone does not share accessories with any other Samsung phone, even the ear bud has a proprietary 2.5mm plug. PIM function exists but is cumbersome to sync with PC even with the supplied software. Phone comes with everything you might need (sync software, scsi cable for PC, slim battery and travel charger) with the exception of a way to carry the phone (holster, case or clip). For the asking price of this phone (199.99 w/new activation from VoiceStream) I would expect not only a way to carry the phone but also voice dialing, easy syncing, calculator and multiple alarms. Summary: Performance =4, Form factor=4 and features=2.

Great Looks but no Brains - Samsung Q105

This model with its squared format looks very distinct and professional. The Analog Clock Screensaver is very nice. Tri-Band (World Phone) and GPRS capable are some of its best points. However, after that there is nothing special about the phone. Its little brother - the N105 is one of the more feature rich phones w/ several games, calculator and calendar. I expected those same features (w/ some possible upgrades) in this model. It has none of those. Form - 4.5, Functionality 2, Overall a 3 that looks look like a 5.
