Affordable replacement with great performance!
When my iPhone 5 started draining rapidly even after resetting it, I looked for an inexpensive replacement. I've known that the ATT Go phones would work fine just by replacing the SIM card. The ZTE Z Max 2 was the only one of it's type to have 16gb of internal memory and had just been lowered in price to $129 at most major retailers. A 5.5" Android phone with all of these features for around 100 bucks and no contract!
Call quality is very good. I mostly use speaker phone or bluetooth. Reception is excellent. Almost on par with my old iPhone 5 and better than my older Samsung S3. The Lollipop OS is decent. The user replaceable 3000mAh battery usually last all day if I stay off of the video sites. The camera is also excellent and on par with the iPhone 5. I like the "grippy" back that helps hold the phone since its size can be hard to handle especially if the back was smooth. Another plus is the ability to add a micro SD up to 64gb.
Some minor cons are the lack of accessories like an Outer Box case, etc. Also, the video can be a bit choppy. You have to remove the back cover and battery to get to the SD and SIM cards.
After using this phone for about two months, I am seriously thinking of using it for the long haul. It was intended to be a bridge phone until I decided on the iPhone 6 or Samsung S6 or newer. Why spend 5 to 6 times what I paid for this? I don't think that I will find that big of an improvement to justify the cost. Other people may and that's their choice, but I'd rather save $600 for something else. If you are on ATT and don't want to get locked into a long contract with a higher monthly payment, this just may be your next replacement or new upgraded phone.

Love it
For the price this phone is hard to beat. I use it on ATT post paid without issue. The LTE reception is great but the battery life is the real star !! I believe I could almost use it for 2 days without changing. The screen is good but not what a premium machine would have. Thankfully ZTE runs almost standard Android. My only concern here is when, if ever, I will see Marshmallow.

Zmax 2 lives up to the hype
UPDATE..
after a week with this phone I'm still extremely impressed. It's quite honestly the best phone I've had in a long time. Is it prefect? No. Has it randomly restarted? Yes once. But its also not an HTC or Samsung flagship product. It's a zte. I got this phone by trading off my LG stylo. Which was a huge disappointment for an LG phone. But here I am loving life again. Crystal clear calls. Flawless execution of apps lighting fast camera. Just an all around great device for a hundred bucks. Keep reading for my full review

The zmax2 . what is it really . its number 2 in the zmax line . with a few updates over the zmax. And it has its flaws. So first the good.
Its a solid device. Feels good in the hand. It's not as massive as the original. While the specs say the screen is low resolution, I'm not seeing it. It's crisp. Clear and the color is rich. The sound quality is very good. Music and calls are clear with no distortions. And there's almost no lag.
The bad.
I would have hoped for a better camera. But it does the job. Just avoid all low light situations. For its price point of $99.88 at Walmart you really can't go wrong. Would I recommend this phone? Yes. It is a food stamp phone. But when you pull it out it impresses. If you need a low cost phone, its right here.

Nice phone
The ZTEMax is a pretty good phone to own. I love everything about this phone. Reception is great and it has plenty of memory to download my games and music. I would recommend this phone to anyone.
