Sprint has recently started making webOS 1.4 available to the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. The updated operating system brings a number of new features to the webOS platform. First and foremost, webOS devices can now capture and edit video. The update also allows users to share their video via MMS, YouTube, and Facebook. Palm says that the calendar, phone, messaging, and email apps have all been given new features, such as short cuts that allow users to jump from one app to another faster. The new system software also includes better notifications. The gesture area below the screen, for example, will pulse when new messages have arrived. Palm says webOS 1.4 also brings system-wide speed and usability improvements. The update is being pushed out by Sprint over the air over the course of the next few days. Users may also manually check for the update from their device. The update is not yet available Verizon Wireless customers who have a Palm Pre Plus or Pixi Plus.

*Cough* FANBOY *COUGH*

I carry a Palm Pre, HTC Hero and BB Storm, the Pre is by far the easiest and most untuitive of the three phones I own. If Palm tanks it will be a shame, the Pre is a great phone. Sprint, however, is doing quite well.

And I can't think of a single way in which Android is a better OS either.

Beyond the Motorola Droid, to which Verizon Wireless (the nation's largest carrier) spent approximately 1/4th of the total device cost marketing, the Palm Pre has outsold an...

Android is def. a great OS but the web os is nothing to frown upon. The multitasking card view is awesome and w/ this update its just a personall preference on which kind of phone to get. Very satisfied w/ my WEB OS phone 🙂

My dad is coming to beat Sprint up, come to the arch and never talk to me again. Oh danm (on purpose) and they did, boy did they.

Dear Abby,
You give horrible advice and I hate your picture. I gave it all up for a girl.

Palm may be a Good OS, but the problem is that there are way too many OS's on the Market. I like having choices, but software developers are not interested in writing a program for 30 different OS's. Many feel that by the end of 2010, there will be 5 ...

Sprint needs to stop badmouthing their flagship phone

WebOS is the best thing Sprint's got going for it. They need to stop pitching the also-ran HTC Hero and stop talking crap about the Pre. Buying one should not incite warnings from Sprint salespeople. I've had mine for 4 months and I love it.

Sprint, Palm did you the favor of giving you your first competitive smartphone in half a decade. Verizon got stuck with Android, and blew millions marketing a device that can't even run the most recent OS version yet.
I don't fault reps for giving an honest opinion. I personally have a hero, and use a live pre for demo purposes at work, so i know both very well. I've also sold a number of both phones, and I've seen pre customers return their phone or come in for i...

2.1 is largely a cosmetic update. You have yet to give 1 reason why it is a critical update.

-Multitouch browser, Dolphin and xscope do this, better than the native browser at multitouch imo.

-Google Earth. Capable of running on 2.01, market f...

JACK BAUER USES A PRE.

All kidding aside, I used to hate the new Palm WebOS when compared to blackberry, android, and iphone. But there are a lot of positives to it, and since I've started using one, I actually really like it.

Some major pros
- Size... beats almost all other devices in terms of size in the smartphone category
- Multiple Exchange sync (this is a plus for anyone in the business world who has multiple emails... plus... I love android, but it is not a business users phone)
- The mirror behind the back of the pre

Ok ok ok... so maybe there aren't a lot of pros over other devices, it's truly going to be a personal preference, but spend some time using...

the size is way too small for me, but I know a lot of people who love tiny phones, so it's perfect for them.

I think their font rendering is some of the best I've seen (even with the small screen size I can read everything)

Downloading mine now!

So its been 5 min. and its hardly downloaded (I know it takes awhile) - but I'm def. looking forward to having video, increased speed & battery life, more features etc. However I'm very upset that my Pixi isnt getting the flash update on the web (Pre only) ☚ī¸ I'll let you know how it works.
It took about 35 min to download to my Wife's Pre. Other than the well anticipated Video capture, the upgrade seems to be a welcome. There is a noticeable speed increase. The Pre is performing great!
The video upgrade is great. As soon as the video is captured it allows you to upload straight to youtube, facebook, mms or email. It also allows you to edit the video; then it will show you the 2 videos (1 done and 1 edited) which you can easily dele...
