AT&T continues its march on SDC: NextMail-like apps
I've used Nextel's "NextMail" system for years, it is a very handy, ultra-efficient tool that Nextel developed with a third-party called Pacific Data Vision (located in the San Diego area, I believe). One of the things that's helped keep me with Sprint is the Nextel NextMail capability, something none of the other US carriers offered.
Today AT&T announced "pdvConnect" with a suite of features & capabilities that sound just like Nextel's NextMail offerings. I'm guessing since AT&T calls it "pdvConnect" that they have also contracted with Pacific Data Vision ("PDV") to provide these same services for AT&T users.

Hey CAT! How are you doing? It seems as though a lot of effort is going into competing with Nextel PTT these days. This should speak volumes to all the naysayers who claim the Nextel business model is outdated.

I purchased a Kyocera Dura XT last November. I can say mine does work in 1X and roaming areas, but takes about three seconds to initially connect.
I haven't tried any PTT solutions lately from the other guys. I remember back in 2010, we tried Verizon's original PTT. It was horridly slow.
About two weeks ago, another software update was downloaded onto my phone. Since then, I've gone that length of time without having to reboot. I think they're getting closer.

My experience with 'smartphones" has been generally bad. Reception, sound quality, ease of use, and overall bulkiness are all deal breakers for me-not to mention the ridiculous fees for data. For my money, I say it's better to get a wifi enabled tablet instead.
