Direct Connect Call Alert Suggestion

Since Sprint DC still retains the same minor deficiency as Nextel DC, I recommend Sprint make a minor modification to its Call Alert system.

I propose call alerts send a standard SMS text message that will go through even if the other party is on a phone call. Sprint used to do that with its picture mail service. Although it wasn't possible to view the picture while on an active call, you at least knew you had one.

I believe this would be a useful feature. I liked it on my old ic602.

Are you referring only to the single case of receiving text notification of a DC Alert while you are in-process on a regular, full-duplex voice call, or are you also referring to receiving a text notificatio...

I tried it between our two Sprint Direct Connect phones (Kyocera Torques). You are correct, if one phone is in-process on a regular phone call, the incoming Call Alert is completely ignored, and the Call Alert sender gets a message that the Call Alert recipient is not available (code 310).

I did notice that if there was a Call Alert message on the display (i.e. an as-yet-unacknowledged Call Alert) and that phone receives an incoming regular phone call, after the regular phone call is ended, the Call Alert remains on the receiving phone's display, and can be answered via DC reply (if the phone's Call Alert timeout has not yet expired).

Three other non-favorable behaviors of our Torques relative to Call Alert:
1) You can't change th...

JR & CAT:

Here's how you can edit DC messages:

1. Obtain the MSL for your phone from Sprint.
2. Press ##DATA#.
3. Select "Direct Connect."
4. Choose "edit."
5. Enter your newly obtained MSL number.
6. Choose "Tables."
7. Choose "Alert Mapping."
8. Choose "Add New"

This program, though hidden, works exactly like the preset text messaging program.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have my MSL number yet, but I did go through the routine you described, and I can see everything in View mode.

Is there any way to obtain the MSL number without calling Sprint? Does Sprint even care, or is that something they try to protect?

I hate to be dense, but this is my first experience with Spr...

You have to call Sprint, but they usually give it to you.
