How can Sprint provide better service in Little Rock, AR than St. Louis, MO

I live in suburban St. Louis, MO. I recently have been to Little Rock, AR on a business trip. My Sprint phone worked MUCH BETTER in Little Rock, compared to my home town of St. Louis. How can that be?!
