iPhone 3G internet troubles
I had to replace my iPhone today due to some anomalies with the internet. Just wanted to pass this on in case some of you are having the same issues:
I received my first Verizon iPhone soon after I preordered it online. Everything worked as advertised. A few days ago, my 3G internet stopped working. Wifi worked just fine.
I live near a Verizon store so I took the phone in. There was no service issue in the area, as other iPhones/Droids had been receiving internet just fine.
The only way we could get the internet to work was to Reset Network Settings. It would work until I turned the phone off, or established a Wifi connection then leave it.
My next step was to call customer service. After an hour of trouble shooting, she patched me to Apple. The Apple rep took me through everything including a total phone reset through iTunes. Still no prevail.
I took the phone in today and they just replaced it. They mentioned that they have only seen one or two with this issue, so I don't think it is too common.
I would like to share this also..the big kicker...
As I was syncing everything from my first iphone to iTunes before I called customer service in lieu of possibly getting a replacement, my internet explorer stopped working also on my laptop. I could contine and download songs via iTunes, etc, but internet would not work. The error said APPCRASH. I had to download Firefox on my wife's Mac and bring it over to use internet, which did work; however, interent explorer still did not. Now, get this, since my new iPhone is now working, I synced it and my internet explorer works just fine now. This is mind blowing, and maybe just by chance everything quit and restarted the exact same time my old iPhone stopped working, and my new one works. Far above my level, and possibly tells you how powerful the IOS is on this phone.
Anyways, sorry this post is so long, but just wanted to pass on some info. Hopefully no one else had these issues.
Solid business move. Good for everyone.
I read somewhere in the blogs below "this must be stopped! Justice must prevail!!!"
What justice? Who is losing here? WHO???
"there is very little competition now!!"
BS, there is plenty of competition and it grows every day! Pre-paid companies are getting more aggressive, plus there are hundreds of regional carriers as well as two major carriers to compete with.
On top of that, there is no end to innovation in sight!! There will continuously be better options out there as people and companies come out with the next big thing. The cool thing about innovation is IT REQUIRES PEOPLE BE UNHAPPY WITH CURRENT OFFERINGS!!!
Stop encouraging the government to get involved, those idiots can barely manage thier own lives.

Why is it I fear logic won't prevail
Putting aside the common sense that needed to be smacked into Sprint regarding Customer Service, they are presenting a clearly formed opinion that any objective person in the industry would concur with.
AT&T's strength largely has been in the marketing department, rather that the network. Everytime I see a new ad on tv the BS astounds me. Now they are calling themselves "THE NETWORK", hmm where did I hear that before...
Its almost like they will do anything to deflect from their problems (Hire more lobbyists, more ad buys, buy up a smaller competitor) rather than invest a cent in their own network equipment. Comparing AT&T to VZW they are actually a much larger company, yet the way dollars move about take a much different path.
Here you go AT&T, i've got your new transparent marketing slogan.
"AMERICA'S LARGEST LOBBYING NETWORK FOR 20 YEARS AND COUNTING"
Take a look at where AT&T puts their dollars next to their competitors, and other Conglomo's

Re: Why is it I fear logic won't prevail
You're right, it won't.
Why do people make jokes like "Hey isnt government intelligence an oxymoron?" It's becuase it is. When something makes sence and appears to be clearcut, it never is in the minds of politicians. We all knew that at&t had loads of spectrum that it could use, but now these findings pretty much prove it. At&t should just hand over that $6,000,000,000 to T-Mobile, take a bow, and go away.

Maybe that's been T-Mobile's plan this entire time 8)
Re: Why is it I fear logic won't prevail
Not the most intelligent thread but I will play. Do you honestly think AT&T would put that type of money up unless they knew that this would go through?? I would love to see anybody short AT&T's stock with the thought that this merger is not going to go through.
Re: Why is it I fear logic won't prevail
I agree. And how could at&t possibly be that confident? What could possibly convince at&t that gobbling up some 40% of the market share would be allowed so much so that they would bet billions on it? The potential answers disturb me greatly.
Re: Why is it I fear logic won't prevail
AT&T hasn't invested a cent in the network?
I remember an article here that said something about what? $18-19 billion into the network by the end of 2011? That's an awful lot of non-existant cents.
