Tethering via BT

Has anyone been successful in tethering the 6256 on Verizon's 1x network using a BT adapter on a notebook? I've been trying but haven't been successful, I suspect because PC Suite 6.6 doesn't really support this model. Maybe 6.7 will, but who knows when that will come out. Can anyone help me out, please? I've plugged in the user name and password -- [phonenumber]@vzw3g.com and vzw, respectively -- and have dialed #777. It always gives me a hardware connection error, yet the phone is recognized and paired with the PC. However, it does not show up as a Nokia 6256 modem in Control Panel. There's only a Bluetooth modem there.

6256i vs V710 reception

Can anyone who has had both phones compare the reception and voice quality of the two phones. I know that the V710 gets great reception and was wondering how the Nokia compares. Also besides the bluetooth, how do features compare?

Nokia info from another site. Includes MMC cards. DocB2, heads up.

Q: SD (Secure Digital) Cards are much cheaper than MMC cards, can I use them instead?

A: No. At the moment Nokia only supports MMCs, since the release of the 7610 future phones will use Reduced Size MMCs (RS MMCs).

Q: What is the max. size of MMCs that can be used?
A: 512 MB should work for sure, 1GB maybe. But: It is not the size that matters. Some cards just won't work. Which can't be said. If you buy a card and it won't work: give it back!

Q: Where do I get the setting for MMS, WAP/GPRS, Internet and email?

A: The easiest way is Over-The-Air (OTA). Go to http://nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,96,00.html (or the specific Nokia website of your country!). Choose you phone from the list. There you will find a link for your setting...

I called LETSTALK.COM and got some information on my order

I went to the letstalk.com to find out the status of my order, since the Nokia rep told me on Sunday that I should expect the phone late Monday or noonish Tuesday. Well, it's Wednesday and NO PHONE. I saw that it was still on back order so I phoned and spoke with a rep there at LETSTALK. She was great and told me that in fact yes, the phone was still backordered, and that when they get it they will send me an email telling me what day and time it will be delivered. I will also get a tracking number (UPS).

I also asked her when my 15-day grace period starts and told her that I was concerned that it might start when I paid for it on Sunday. She told me that the 15-day grace period starts when I get the phone, so that eased my mind. I expect...

Read the 6256i review........

SystemShock.... I read your review: VERY good. And it makes me ask: What BlueTooth earbud do you use with it? I ordered a Nokia earbud.

BB: 30 days to return phone & 14 days to cancel the service

I just spoke to someone at Best Buys again. The last time they told me they had a 3 day return policy. This time (different male voice) I was told:

30 days to return the phone.
14 days to cancel the service.

So I asked the young man, "So in fact I'd better return the phone in fewer than 14 days, right?
And he said Yes, that's right.

Same store, two different answers.

Locked out games and apps on Alltel

Press "Go to", "Options", "Select Options". Check "Games" and "Collections". They'll now be in the "Go to" menu ready to use.

Test Driving the 6256i

I checked one out at Best Buy (Dublin CA) and it seemed OK. There was no demo, but they opened one up. They wanted me to be very careful, because they didn't want a potential customer to think it was a "used" phone. Fare enough.

They wanted $259 or somewhere near there, with no discounts, so I said "Adios".

I picked one up at a local Radio Shack. While it's not NE2, the RS Guy looked at my account and said "You're eligible for the upgrade price ($200 discount) so it's $59.95 plus tax" (tax is on the retail price, not the discounted price) and I was out the door for $82 and change.

Lorna, I asked the difference between "upgrade pricing and NE2 (I've used NE2 twice now) and all I got was a smartass answer from some sh*thead who t...

Bought the 6256i & awaiting delivery tomorrow or Tuesday

Today I went to the Nokia Experience Center at the mall and ended up buying the 6256i and the earbud. That place has very people oriented, helpful sales reps and the gal today was excellent. We ordered the phone through the Nokia site and she told me to return there when the phone is delivered because she wants to help me set it up; I am not quite sure what setting it up means, but I appreciate her offer and will take her up on it.

The phone comes with a memory card and of course a charger, and since I am getting a Nokia earbud I presume that it can charge on the phone's charger.

One thing: I decided to go for the one year plan and thus will end up paying $50 more than I would have if I had gotten the two year plan. Nokia is giving a...

VzW rep told me the following things:

I just spoke (phone) to a sales rep from Verizon wireless and learned a lot.

1. If I buy a VzW phone from anywhere other than VzW, I am NOT eligible for NE2 (New Phone Every Two Years).

2. He said that he knew nothing of the Nokia 6256i.

3. For me to get around the fact that VzW cripples the OBEX profile (which allows for file transfers) on all its existing BlueTooth phones, I have two options:

(a) USB file transfers. I asked the sales rep which phones have USB ports, and he told me,"Only the smart phones/PDAs. This includes the LG VX 9800."

Since I do not want those PDAs with the QWERTY keyboards, that is not an option for me.

(b) Expansion card (Mini SD - "Smart Disk"). If I get an expansion card and also a Ca...

At what point does the 15-day grace period begin?

With online purchases of a cellphone, when does the 15-day grace period start? I paid for it on Sunday and was told the phone and BlueTooth earbud would arrive Monday afternoon or Tuesday noonish. This morning I received an email from Nokia saying that the product is backordered and will be delivered tomorrow, Nov. 30 and it is conceivable that the delivery could be further delayed until December.

I hope that the grace period did not begin when they received my money via Visa. I hope that it begins from the time I actually have the phone in my hands, but how is Nokia to know that? From a delivery signature? Hmmm.

$36 reactivation fee at Best Buys

I went to Best Buys and was told that to get a refund for the 6256i, I would have to return the phone in THREE days or risk a re-activation fee of $36.

This tells me that if I get my phone at Best Buys I had better buy the BlueTooth earbud before I buy the phone so that when I walk out of the store with the phone all of that time is spent testing it out, not shopping for a BlueTooth earbud. I also am wondering if it might not be better to wait for Verizon to sell it, since I know that they allow 15 days, which is a lot better.

I guess same goes for a charger.

6255i not the same as 6256i

FYI:

The 6255i and the 6256i are NOT the same wrt features.

The 6255i lacks a USB port. The 6256i HAS a USB port.

I learned this at the Nokia Experience Center up close and personal. -Lorna

Which MMC Card?

I am preparing to purchase the 6256i and have a couple of questions for those who already have one. Does this take a regular MMC card or the reduced-size/mobile MMC? (I assume that it is one of the latter.) Need it be a dual-voltage card? Can you use a card larger than 512mb? (I've read that somehow the phone limits the amount of data on the card to 600mb.)
Thanks for any help you can give.

Wired Headset and Case Choices?

Anyone have a good recommendation for a stereo headset and a compatible case? I note that the Nokia headset plugs into the bottom and you need a 4-conductor set to hear stereo if plugged into the top, headphone jack. Is there a case that allows this phone to be on your belt and the wire to connect to the bottom of the phone? If not, is there a good stereo headset that can be plugged into the top jack and a case that allows access to that jack?
