Palm Treo 650 (GSM)
Cingular availability?
I just spoke with a Cingular retail rep in the Chicago area. He said they are expecting them any day now. This doesn't jive with what I was told by a Sprint rep who said Sprint had an exclusive for the first few months. Who do I believe??

I would likely not believe either.
However, the Sprint rep sonds less credible.
Since the AT&T buyout, companies have been hurling phones at Cingular.
Plus, the GSM compatible wowuldn't work on Sprint CDMA towers anyway. Not to say they couldn't have had exclusive for CDMA only!?!

There are 2 versions of this device the cdma version and the gsm version. Of course Sprint is going to tell you they have the market cornered on this they have the cdma version! Cingular will be rolling out with this device, however as for a specific timeframe, that I am not sure of

Talked to buisness CSR As of 12/11 ...ATT/Cingular reports no availability on the 650 nor no official plans to acquire it....

With Cingular being the largest GSM carrier in the U.S. and the 650 having the U.S. bandwith of 850Mhz, there is only ONE WAY Cingular will not get this phone..and that would be if Palm One doesn't make it..and we all know this is not going to happen, sooooooo...Cingular will have this phone...hopefully within the Q1 of '05...........

I found a little store in a small suburb of Chicago that seems to be really wired to some brains at Cingular.
This guy held off on carrying the Mpx220 when other stores in his area were fighting for it... he now has a few but they are all the latest software version of 1.7
Also was one of the first stores in the country to carry the V3. This guy had them on shelf and in the store room back in September.
Anyway... I have bought several phones from this guy and so far he has been 100% reliable down to the day. He told me specifically today that he will have stock the first week of January. as always.... YMMV

Cingular store in my area said roughly, 2 weeks...which puts it in line for the first of the year.

Why the nasty note?
my guy did get two Treo 650s in this week and I pick up mine tonight.
Incidentally, he was pretty sure that most of the high volume stores around Chicago and burbs would have phones in good supply by 1/20.
I asked more questions about where/how this guy gets phones so quickly and I think he gets them direct from the manufacturer due to some personal relationships. That would explain a lot given the guy's store is tiny.
Anyway... not sure why you are angry but I do hope this helps and hope you get a 650 soon. I know I am excited to start playing!

no one else on the web anywhere has received a GSM version of the T650...NO ONE @ Treocentral and this guy wants us to believe that's a store that has them.
post the phone # and tell me who to ask for if you really got one. Maybe then, when i call, I'll believe it. But, my guess is since you didn't get one, you won't be posting the phone #.

picked up my 650 Saturday night and love the screen improvement, had it synced with my bluetooth speaker and laptop by Sunday afternoon.
I've refrained from posting contact information for my "secret dealer" because of prickish attitudes like yours. I sincerely would have been happy to post all of that information before I started getting beaten up on this forum by guys that are jealous that I have a source with a pipeline to manufacturers and early delivery.
I enjoy phones and the comradery and new things one can learn from this type of forum. However, you have really just ticked me off with your juvenile behavior so sit and wait and I'll back ch...

I am completely enamored with the Treo 650! I cannot wait until it becomes available. I read somewhere today that it won't be available until sometime before the end of February and it about shattered my hopes of getting one before the end of January.
How do you like the phone? Is it perfect in almost every way? Have you tried using any downloaded programs with it? Well, I know that you were pretty mad about what the other message said, but if you happen to think that I'm one of those decent people I would really love to know how you got one already. If not, I hope you enjoy your treo 650.
