Cingular rate plans
Could someone please explain to me the various add-on rate plans available for use with the Treo. I am told that there is a $39.95 package and that there may a less inexpensive one but no one can really give me specific information. The Cingular sales reps certainly don't know. Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks.

$19.99- 5mb
$24.99- 10mb
$34.99- 20mb
$39.99- Unlimited
I am assuming you have a voice plan, if not add $5 to 24.99 and higher for a stand alone data plan. 5mb plan is the same price, stand alone or w/voice.

Carefull with Media net. I had it, and I have found it to be not as flexible as if you were with a DATA connect. There are some limitations. So you do get what you pay for. Then again, my use is nearly business like in which I can connect to my work email and my empoyers intranet as well as other servers.

If you want a more robust experience use the unlimited PDA connect plan. The MEdia Net Unlimited uses a limited portal designed to support only the limited browsing capabilities of standard handsets with only WAP browsers.

Some people at Cingular will try and sell you MediaBasics or MediaWorks most of these folks are either customer care or the WORST salesmen on the planet who should be shucking french fries and not selling phones.
The MediaBasics and MediaWorks are for your every day cell phones while the PDA data services are just that FOR PDA'S they use a different server.
Using the standard Media plans on a Treo 650 is like having an Aston Martin v12 Vanquish with the engine of a Chevy Metro.

Well I have a palm treo 650 and I've had the unlimited media net for 19.99 and there have been no limitations in the 7 days that I've had it for. the only thing Im worried about is a possible overcharge for accesing like myspace or something like that. but we will see

Cingular has its data network basically split in half with 50 percent of it dedicated to voice and 'regular' phone data i.e. phones useing wap browsers and packet data limited to 165 characters. The other half of its network is dedicated to PDA connect and laptop connect data transfer. Faster transmission period. If you are viewing content where excessive bandwidth is being transferd from your Treo to the network and vice versa, your account will be audited and you will be prorated for the bandwidth you have used at pda connect priceing. Why sell yourself short? You will be billed anyway. You are useing a feature that was designed for different devices, and you are chewing up bandwidth that they have dedicated for their own 'regular' devices...
