If it is anything like the 650, in terms of reception, we will be in for a bumpy ride...

What was wrong with the 650? From what I've seen, it's a pretty good handset and I'm actually thinking of buying one in a few days. Should I stay away from it?

Depends on which carrier. Sprint has been pretty solid and VZW was ok for voice but their data in my area sucked ass. Cingular was rough depending on the area but the latest ROM update fixed it pretty well.

you should just wait it out and get this phone. you should be able to try it out for 15 days and if you are not satisfied you can return it and get the 650 or whatever phone you want.

Nothing is wrong with the Treo 650 depending on the carrier. Here in South Florida (and I believe most things are location specific) the 650 is a great device on Verizon and maybe even Sprint, but it is not a good device on Cingular or T-mobile.

Again, you should talk to people who own the device in your area.

I have a Treo 600 and T-mobile made a change to their network causing the device to freeze 6 to 10 times a day. Doing nothing. I would go to use it and find it frozen. Reset and find I had missed calls for an hour or longer. It didn't happen when I went out of town. Only in Broward County and South Boca Raton.

T-mobile was very polite and helpful, but they couldn't resolve it and they didn't have an device that I wanted. They ...

When I was with Cingular, I noticed the same thing. I'd have full bars but unable to make or receive calls. On a side note, would you happen to know if I can call Cingular to have 2 of my phones unlocked? I'm not with them anymore, but I left on good terms, kind of. I didn't have to pay any ETFs and I don't have a balance.

I don't know. T-mobile was great in this way. If you don't have an account with Cingular it might be hard to get them to help you. In my case with T-mobile, T-mobile was in the wrong. They messed up their network and I was out of contract and still had an account with them.

Your situation is different in many ways. T-mobile ordered the unlock code from Palm. They took my IMEI number to order it. Perhaps you can request it form the manufacturer directly.

RRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN FFFFFFFAAAARR AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basing my knowledge on the 600, but out of my 20-30 phones and 5 or so PDAs that I have owned with various carriers, it is honestly the worst.

I want a 700 bad, but I'm terrified.

Signal compared to my personal Cingular phone is alot less in most areas here in a major town in a southern state surrounded by ocean.. but even with one or no bars showing, sound quality and EVDO speed is great
