I am thinking of this phone but am curious about one thing. Would I ever need a "wi-fi" card if I am using Verizons EV-DO network? Thanks for any help. Still learning this stuff....
...
no EVDO is built in. WIFI would only be for wireless internet use. IT does not have a built in wifi card.

Okay, I must be really new at all of this. I thought that EV-DO was the internet portion that Verizon supplied (for a fee). Are you telling me that the EV-DO and Wi-Fi are different? Thanks....

EVDO is just a high speed version of the data connect. WI-FI is 802.11b, like your home wireless network, so u can use wireless hotspots to use their data connection and for example. Its great for data transfer. But Not good for the treo since its SD Memory card is also where you put the WIFI card.. This phone is NOT good for multimedia rich applications or use, it only has 20mb SDRAM and i tend to lock it up alot.

I've never had a palm pilot or pocket/pc. I can't say that I need one O/S of this phone versus the other(windows/palm). Is one better than the other, or is that one of those "user preference" things? And with that said, is this way to much phone for a beginer anyway. Should I stick to a regular phone and an address book? Thanks again for all of your help.

I would def use a windows OS over the palm OS, way more programs and support.
As far as why get a smartphone?? If u dunno why, u dont need it. Unless u just want the latest toys.

He's probably an IT guy (MCSE, etc.). They all look down on anything that doesn't say microsoft.
Don't forget with Windows you will get...
more crashes, more vulnerabity to viruses (future feature), and less applications. There are 30k palm based applications and how many windows mobile apps?
Please keep in mind windows mobile is the new kid on the block when it comes to mobile computing.

^ lol. Oh yeah well since palm did not put Java on the phone.. that limits your apps to um, zero

Oh no! Turtlepokin must be one of those Mac users who claim the Mac is better than a Windows PC, but Mac keeps scraping everything that makes it different and this year they will even use Intel processors. They will be shipping with Windows preinstalled before long.
But I digress.
I have had the following SmartPhones:
Original Handspring Treo
Siemens SX56
Motorola MPx200
Blackberry (I forget the model)
Treo 600 (currently using)
I have clients that use:
Treo 650
Blackberry
Siemens SX66
Samsung i730
Bottom Line is that the Windows powered products are far more useful for many reasons. The Treo 600 is a great phone and the Palm platform has some advantages, but if the hardware is solid (

Is there any way to add more ram to this device like you could on a desktop or laptop???

SixxFan - IMO, there several reasons why you might want a wireless card (and EV-DO). 1) Coverage...if you are ever in a place where EV-DO doesn't work, if you can find "wi-fi" access, you can be on-line with your Treo. Also, the reverse is true, if "wi-fi" doesn't work, EV-DO may be able to provide connectivity. 2) Speed. Generally speaking, "wi-fi" will provide faster connectivity assuming the latency is not ridiculously high. 3) Cost. This is a maybe, esp while on the road. If you have an unlimited EV-DO subscription, your cost is fixed. If you subscribe for a limited amount of MB on EV-DO, then "wi-fi" may save you usage charges. For example, if you synchronize a lot between your phone and your e-mail, your usage charges on EV-DO...
