Question for those that have this phone already...

Since the Treo 700W is out now I figured I'd ask...The 650 in my experience with it had severe reception issues, in areas where a straight cell phone had just barely enough signal to make and receive calls (without a problem despite the low signal strength in such areas) the 650 didn't get a signal at all.

Is this fixed with the 700W? I really really really hope so cause I want this device but not if it can't live up to being a good cell phone as well as a good handheld.

You are always going to have some kind of comprimise with these types of devices so get used to it. FYI - the HP6515 and Cingular 8125 have great radios compared to my Treo 650.

For what it's worth, my Blackberry 7250 worked as good or BETTER in most places than my Motorola V710, which is often revered as the best Verizon phone for "RF."

My father's Treo 600 (yes, 600) won't make calls in his house, and the Blackberry works great, even throughout the basement. I mean 100% clarity, 0-2 bars throughout. No dead spots whatsoever. Treo 600: 0%.

I dig the 700, but I am VERY leery of it's reception.

Exactly - it's all about how good the radio is in the device. Treo have not really had great radios in them. Niether have Motorola's for that matter.

I still wouldn't use a blackberry unless you put a gun to my head no matter how good the radio was. 😉

I havent dropped a call yet either...riding in elevators, being in my basement at home. I regularly get one or no bars in my basement and have had 30 min conversations with no service interruption or dropped calls. The clarity is there also. WM devices have traditionally had a pessimistic radio signal IMO. Even with cingular in my house which got great reception, my 5600 and hp 6515 regularly showed one or two bars.

The phone is great. It's not a Palm OS phone so don't compare it to one. Don't complain if it doesnt do certain things like Palm OS. If you need tethering, then get a phone that can tether...Verizon has made no bones about it not being able to tether...Its not a problem with the Treo, but with VZW.

This is probabl...
