Help With Custom Ring Tones For Text and E-mail Alerts Please.
I've managed to add my personal ring tones and they are working great for phone calls. I went into the Sounds and Notifications and under Notifications I went to "Messaging: New text message" and Messaging: New e-mail message" checked the box for play sound and put my custom ring tone in. Under the Sounds tab I have the "Programs" box checked and the sub-box "Notifications (alarms, reminders) checked as well. But when I get a text message I get no sound, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had the EXACT same problem! I wasn't getting any notification of texts other then they would pop up on the screen. I finally had to set the tone back to one of the defaults and it works. Wierd.

If you notice under the factory sounds any notification is much smaller than a ringtone obviously. You have to treat this situation like a regular phone. Cut a section of your mp3. I would say 5 to 8 seconds. Not exactly sure on exact length but this does work. Good Luck!

yah when the treo has to load 3.5 mb everytime your mom calls just hear the start of tiny dancer....OF COURSE its going to lag... its like a computer... it only has 60 mb of ram one mp3 is already like 5% of your memory. just think how long it takes to load a file thats like 1.2 gigs on your comp. its like the same thing dont you agree?

fitst off you need can do it several ways...i use nero wave editor, works like a charm, just bring up the song you want, highlight the part you want and copy and paste into a new file, that simple

its free to signup, you can send there ringers to the phone for free,they have thousands!!! and they work on text, voicemail,etc..then go into your phone, open message save as template, then go to file explorer find violitle file, then copy ringer, then find sounds and paste, there you go!!

I had the same problem when I selected MP3 format for text, email, and reminder alerts... basically anything not a ringtone. However, when I converted the sounds to WAV files, it works like a charm.
Now, given that WAV files are much larger than MP3 files, you should probably select a very brief sound, limited to a few seconds or less.
Solution: use WAV files for any non-ringtones and MP3 files for ringtones.
