Q v. 700w?
I posted this with the Q forum, but would like those that read this forum to respond ASAP:
Ok, I've looked over what I could find here and elsewhere regarding these two devices, and I'm not finding a lot of helpful discussion versus pre-launch speculation.
I need to make a decision, and I want forum input. Yes, I am part of the 710 settlement and need to pick a phone now meaning I'm going to have to get the treo, but the question will be should I keep it. If I ultimately want the Q, I'll have time my treo purchase just right so I can return it with in the 15 day window.
So far I only see two advantages in the Q - the first is size. The second is the screen resolution, but then again I think the screen is ultimately smaller than the ...

You are nuts to buy a 700w. The spec on the device is a 4-6 hour battery life doing EMail. Verizon says to think of it like talking on the phone. Well that makes this device the only one I have ever encountered that makes an absure claim like that.

I have a 700W and my wife has a Q. For my needs, the Treo beats the Q hands down. In fact, it is not even close. From my perspective, the principal advantage of the Q is sex appeal which is fine if you are a casual email and application user like my wife. However, I need to edit MS Office documents and am a fairly heavy email user. Based on that, the Treo is great. Sure, it has its quirks, but they are quirks that I can live with. Read the comparison of the Treo and Q in today's WSJ. Although the Treo being reviewed is the 700p, I would apply those comments equally to the 700w.

I hate to bust your bubble, but the Treo 700p is a completely different animal vs. the 700w.
700p - a design exercise in simplicity and usability, adequate functionality. Far easier to use one-handed than the W. I'll dare say this isn't even a subjective statement, having come from 6 700w's...

I bought the Trio in January and it has worked very well esp for synch e mail with my office. I need to reset once in a while, but not very often. I got the Q yesterday morning and returned it the next day. It had the worst manual I have ever read. Pencils come with better instructions. There is virtually no information for setting the ringers. They have something called "profiles" but no explanation of what they mean.[The support people didnt know the answers either!!] My IT department couldnt get the phone to synch with our exchange server which was easy with the Trio. Could have been one of those with an internet problem. Also, cant use the memory card for attachments. I sometimes get large docs which need the card. Many features a...

Must admit, the treo is a much better machine. Had the Q for almost two weeks. it is nothing but a phone with a couple of extra features. Calendar sucks, freezes often, no document management capability.
Stay with the 700W upgrade to the Treo hollywood when it comes out in 6-9 months.

Have you ever used a touch screen before then get the 700w it is just like using a compuer. (screw cost it's worth it) if this is your first venturing into smartphone arena then get the q. it's the one for beginners. Both offer the same as far as features go except one is touch screen (700w) and one is not (Q). Sorry this is late. but maybe this will help other people in your sitution, and you too.

Ihad the 6700 for about 3 months. then I went to the q for 2 months. Now I got my treo 700w 2 days ago and all I can say its better FOR ME- maybe your needs are different. What I loved about the 6700 and the Q are combined in the Treo. I hated the sliding keyboard on the 6700. Hated the lack of programs on the Q. The q definetly has a better, crisper screen, but its a phone I use for business and not to watch a movie on, so not too bid. Treo is much nicer looking than Q IMO and doesn't feel as cheap. The Q was too thin too IMO. I must admit the scroll button on the Q was cool and I find myself trying to do it now on the Treo, but like I told my friend who talked me into the 6700 6 months ago when I was going to get the Treo, I should...

I tested out the Q. The construction seems flimsy and the plastic is thin and cheap. Some may not like the weight of the 700 but it is indistructibly solid. The 700w has some minor software issues, I would like to see the next version of the w fix these things.

The 700w makes the Q very obsolete. The only 3 things that the Q are good for are the fact that the bluetooth isn't locked on it, mp3's caqn be ringtones, and that it's compact. Get a 700w.

Agreed, and on the Q you can't copy>paste, that's a big one to me. The 700w is a lot easier to get round as well.

And much sturdier. I've dropped it more times than i care to share, and it hasn't lost a beat. Not to mention that pics & vids are fullsize, whereas the Q's pics & vids are 1/2 size.

imo neither the q or treow are good buys. i do believe one will escape most off the horrors of both by getting a 700wx. works great. double the memory. and no patch can fix the hardware lacking in the 700w. the wx is the ideal buy. the q is WAY to buggy.

Get the 700wx, I have had the 700w since it came out and I decided to try the black Q yesterday. The size is nice but the reception on the Q is very bad. It dropped the same call 4 times in a 30 min span. I might have 1 dropped call per month with the 700w.I returned it today and I am going to wait for Verizon to come out with a phone running WM 6. The touch screen is easier to use when driving also, but that might just be because that is what I am used to. I did like some of the features of the Q but I cant have dropped calls all the time.

All PDA phones are going to have their glitches, the Q and the 700W included. You'll hear people bitch about the 700W all the time, it crashes, it's slow, it's this, it's that...what they aren't saying is THEY ALL HAVE THEIR ISSUES (PDA phones that is). I've tried them all, with Verizon and Cingular and after trying all of them for several weeks each I settled on the 700WX. It was simply the best one of the bunch overall, but it certainly DOES crash from time to time, but a simple/quick reset resolves it and it only needs it every couple days.
The Q and the 700W aren't even in the same class of phone. The Q is a stripped down version of a smartphone, the 700W is a full blown smartphone.
