HELP - 8525 Dead After 1 Week

rsf12

😡 I've had the 8525 for exactly 1 week and all was going well, really well. Then out of nowhere, the touch screen stopped responding to tapping. Sometimes no response, then sometimes my tap would open a window or change screens but it wouldn't stay there, it would immediately return to the Today screen. I did a few soft reboots and it might start being responsive for 30 minutes or so, but then would revert back to the problem. I finally did a hard reboot. Again no fix. This machine is shot after 1 week.

What do I do?

Please help.

If you purchased it at a Cingular store, then by all means return it. You have 30 days for an exchange and then warranty handles it after that. You can always reach customer service by dialing 611 on your phone assuming it can still make calls. How did you buy it?

The phone definitely has issues with those kind of problems. I put mine back in the box for other issues, certainly not as severe as yours, but troublesome none the less. I intend to exchange mine for audio issues, performance glitches and syncing is nearly impossible.

It's my opinion that this phone is not ready for prime time yet and really needs some firmware updates before it will be smooth sailing. I may return my phone and wait 4 or 6 months after some bugs are worked ...

Thanks for your help. I am going to return for a full refund.

At this point, I think I'm going to get a Treo with the Palm OS. Win Mobile 5 is way too unstable.

Any feedback on that logic? Any other phones I should consider in this class of PDA phone?

My experience has been that Windows Mobile is more stable than Palm. Palm used to be very stable but has changed over the years as they have updated their OS. I had a Treo 650 that caused me many headaches due to instabilities which is why I went to Windows powered phones. Overall, Windows phones seem to have fewer sync issues and have better compatibility with Windows.

If you need a PDA phone, the slightly older 8125 has been rock steady and reliable for me (make sure it has 2.25 firmware). The new Palm device coming out looks nice but lacks some new features that newer phones have. You might want to consider a Windows Smartphone as an option. I have a 2125 that works great and that new Blackjack looks promising as well and has 3G speeds...

Don't waste your time on the Treo 680. I had mine for a week and then I had a number of serious connection problems with it (had to hard reset multiple times per day, losing all of my data, just to make and recieve phone calls).

Try to re-layout the screen in diplay settings (or similar command). I did it for my wife's Sprint PDa (different model) and it started working again. I hope it is the same for you.
