AAA+++++++
An Honest NEGATIVE review
Mechanically: Fair.
Software and User Interface: HORRIBLE.
If you are going to use this phone for Business and/or text messaging you are going to HATE it.
If you are a high school kid, wanting to play MP3's, you will probably think it is cool.
CONS: Here are SOME of the poor things about the software interface:
The phone only remembers the last 10 phone calls- This is APPALLING, with a phone with 256 MEG- It's just plain stupid. Being able to go through at least 100 of the last phone calls is one of the most used and important features.
You can't scroll quickly through saved text messages: When viewing a text message, you have to (1) exit the message, (2)scroll down to the next message and then (3) select it for viewing. This is so slow and painful. The UI should have been designed so that you could load the next, or previous text message with a single button push- Like # for next, and * for previous.
No control over the time that the back light stays on for the display.
The phone does not come with a clean simple "Theme" or skin.
When in sleep mode, you can only get it to display the TIME: The display is HUGE- it should have displayed the TIME and DATE as a minimum. The time that is displayed randomly moves around the display. I'm guessing that the moron Gen_Yer wanna be programmer had seen this on a screen saver and thought it was important- The dork probably doesn't even know what phosphor burn in is on a CRT... (That's why CRT screen savers don't always light the same area-- hence the name "SCREEN SAVER"). This has no relevance on a LCD display like the W600i has.
The access to the built in Flash Light is so painful, it's almost impossible to use. When selecting it from the menu, if it's off, the menu highlights "Off". You have to scroll to the "On" option, and then select it. To turn if off, you have to go back through the menu system, then it starts by highlight "On", you have to then select "Off". Plain moronic.
OUT OF ROOM!
Amazing phone.
take it from me. i have had my hands on at least 75% of the phones with any hype around them.
this is the absolute best non-smartphone phone out right now. period.
pros:
- hefty 256mb for mp3's and what-have-you.
- bright, vivid screen.
- solid overall construction.
- interchangeable faceplates.
- actually usable camera.
- great sound from the built in speakers.
- bluetooth transfers are amazing (get a bluetooth enabled computer or dongle of you have this phone, you'll see what i mean.)
- great call quality.
- EDGE is blazing fast.
- EXTREMELY customizable. (you tinkerers... you'll love this phone...)
cons:
- camera is terrible in low light situations.
- no upgradeable memory, it already built in. :[ (it would've been nice to throw in my 1gb sony mem stick and put 650 songs on this bad boy...)
w600i and cingular
what can i say at 299.99 with 100.00 mail in rebate, the phone is fantastic.
great reception
bluetooth
camera is 1.3 mp
Cingular nation coverage best in class
combine the two
And you got the best new phone
with the best coverage
no cons whatsoever
I love this phone so much
man this phones is so cool. every single feature and everything about this phone is great. i would recomend it to any and every one.
Coolest Phone!!!
I've had my W550i for over a week now... and i am quite pleased with its performance... sounds are superb... i had to give my ipod to my brother since i won't be needing it anymore...
pictures are great, with functions just like a digital camera... no autofocus though... picture counter keeps on resetting (don't know why)
software version is:
CXC1250086
R4AB048
000000
it has a universal connector, so you really can't charge the phone and listen to it at the same time...
music transfer is great, you can even change the kbps of the songs, therefore, store more music...
many are complaining about the non-expandable memory... (some people just want everything) if it had a memory stick, then it wouldn't have dual speakers(the design of which is to boast its excellent sounds)... 256mb is great, but a 512mb could have been better... (well i guess if it was 512 then it will cost more)
excellent package... sony ericsson always bundle their phones with all the accessories you need (usb cable, charger, over-the-bar-headphones, even a spare white faceplate)
all in all, this has got to be the best phone i've ever had( i've had nokia phones and currently a treo650)... walkman phones are the best!
i think i'll go get my girlfriend a W550i also... don't want to be the only one with the coolest phone...
Good Idea, Bad Product
This phone was awesome. I had cool features and great sound, however it was a little odd. For instance, that way it was opened. The top part of the phone slid off of the keypad, not like a normal slider but it pivotted in a circular motion. I though this was interesting at first but after discovering how incredibly stupid it looked to other people when you wanted to open the phone to accept/make a call I was rather annoyed with this. You see I couldn't just flip it open with one hand, this phone required both hands to complete the sliding motion, there was no way to look intelligent while opening this phone. It had Good reception (cingular in west Texas) and would not often drop calls.
PROS:
Cool features
Good reception
Great look
Great speaker
CONS:
Horrible slide open
Difficult to "one hand"
Hard to text with
Sony Ericson Pack a lot of Features
My favorite phone I've had thus far.
Has a great sounding mp3 player (even sounds decent without ear-buds)
Radio feature is cool but you have to use ear-buds (the wire doubles as an antenna).
You must lock the keys or you will end up on the internet using up kb's.
Built-in antenna seems to have problem getting a signal indoors. Works great outdoors.
Camera/Video feature take some decent pictures if you have a steady hand. The slightest shake or movement results in a
blurry pic or vid. Would be better if it
had picture stabalization.
Overall, its a good phone, and good looking too!

Huge mistake
Is it just me, or did this phone just get old fast? It took me about two days to realize that I wish I had not bought it. Orange? Should have seen this coming. It's about the size of a satellite phone from 1980 its awkward and just dumb.
There are some pros though. I accidentally dropped it into the Grand Canyon so I never have to use it again. Man I hope it doesn't go onto the internet and cost me money for nothing on the way down.
Pros:
Pays music (woopti-do)
Has buttons
Cons:
Doesn't hold much music
Has too many buttons
Camera kinda sucks
Randomly goes onto the internet for hours at a time because the lock sucks
Doesn't float, though with the orange panels it looks like a life jacket, only bigger
Looks like a children's toy
In summation I really think everyone should get one of these phones to bask in it's awesomeness and chock the tires of there cars when parked on a steep incline.
