I've owned this the Nokia n85 for about 3wks now. It is definitely a full feature phone with just about everything but the kitchen sink inside.
Pros:
1) Quad Band GSM, Triband HSPDA: 900/1900/2100 --Works with AT&T 3g in My area of Ohio.
2) Wifi-- easy to setup
3) FM transmitter --works well inside your car but don't expect to use it farther than several feet.
4) 5.0 MP Camera -- its good but not as good as N82 or n95
5) Symbian OS --very customizable
6) Memory: My package came with 8gb mini-sd card
7) Reception: Its great like all other nokias
8) Form Factor-- Its small and is very pocket-able. The n85 is much thinner than the n95.
9) USB charging -- this is very convenient
10) Camera Lens Cover-- Very important in a camera phone
11) Video Recording: 30fps vga which gives decent quality video.
Cons:
1) The keypad -- I think this is the biggest disappointment in this unit. It simply sucks. Some users might like the way it looks, not being able to tell by touch the separation of the keys, but I think this is a major major disaster. Texting becomes somewhat labor intensive.
2) Fingerprint Magnet -- the body , screen, keypads are total fingerprint magnets.
3) The camera. Yes i did list it above as a pro, but the camera quality fairs poorly in indoor lighting even with its 'dual led' technology. I think some of the bad quality is due to software and may be addresses with future nokia software updates.
A very nice evolution, but definitely not a revolution.
PROS:
*The OS has a very snappy response time, for the most part.
*The physical size is very compact, by Nokia standards.
*Signal strength and voice quality are fantastic, especially with 3G. Web browsing is a pleasure, as well as streaming video.
*Satisfactory camera performance, but it won't be replacing my Canon anytime soon.
*Every type of connection I would ever need is present, including a micro USB charging port, and a 3.5 mm headphone port, with video output.
*The keyboard is flat, but I have adapted fairly quickly, and have no complaints. Also, the directional/navigation key does the job nicely.
*Better battery life than my N80i. I have only been charging the N85 every two days, which is fine by my standards.
*Last, but not least, the OLED screen is extremely vivid, with excellent clarity...at least when it comes to indoor viewing.
CONS:
*Shooting video at 30 frames-per-second is nice, but not when it continuously freezes up, which ruins the experience. It might be due to the included 8Gb memory card, since this freezing quality is not an issue when saving to the phone's internal memory.
*The OS freezes up occasionally and only a reboot seems to fix this.
*The built in stereo speakers are easily the worst I have ever heard in a phone of this calibur. They distort at almost any volume, and the built-in EQ is practically useless.
*The downside of the OLED is that outdoor visibility is horrendous. The only fix for this, is cranking that brightness level up.
*The phone has a relatively solid feel, but there is no excuse for the amount of "play" in the slider mechanism. Its minimal actually, but it still blows my mind to see this, especially at this price. Also, I am confident that the N85 would fall to pieces if one were to drop it. The phone has a nice size and weight, but ultimately feels very plastic-y. A carrying case is a MUST!
*Screen resolution is disappointing, especially compared to the N80. 320x240 makes small text is tough to read. Why Nokia, WHY?
Not all that
I waited and wanted this phone, but was disappointed when I got it. I bought the phone from Nokia mainly for the 5 meg camera, stereo speaker and the FM transmitter. Awful picture and video and very poor FM transmitter. I had to put it very close to the antenna for OK reception. I wanted to like it as the N95 and N82, but it was impossible. I have decided to wait until Nokia has something good to offer. Most the new phone are not as good.
