really great phone
I bought this phone very hesitantly because of all the mixed reviews "professional" reviewers were giving the phone. Man am i glad that i chose to give it a shot because my expectations have been blown away. This phone come with vanilla gingerbread, meaning you don't have any manufacturers UI messing up the experience as well as a very small amount of bloatware which makes this phone buttery smooth and really capable of handling gaming. This phone is the best gaming experience that you could ask for in a phone. The slide out controller really makes gaming a joy to do on this phone. People have given this phone a hard time because of the small amount of games that are xperia optimized, but i say that you can play anything that a regular android phone can but with better controls for emulators and for some of the better android market games. Every aspect of this phone is leaps and bounds better than my old droid x and that was a very quality piece of hardware. So i guess to wrap it up I'll just give a short pro's/con's list.
Pros:
-slide out controls
-super snappy and very fluid
-display is better than average
-camera is very good for a 5MP, better than my droid x with an 8MP camera
-really good at gaming with no slowdown in any game that i have played and great with emulators.
-build quality is great and i personally love the weight, a little bulky but not ridiculous.
Cons:
-power button was a little sticky at first because the battery case was a little tight, but easy to fix with a little reshaping from a pocket knife.
-easily smudged if that matters that much to you.
Overall this phone is awesome and I really expected way less because of the "professional" reviewers. Don't buy into all their opinions and try it out for yourself if you like a quality phone that is amazing for gaming.
I'm In Love!!!
I don't have any complaints about this phone. The touchscreen is very responsive, graphics are wonderful, gameplay is awesome (and using the gamepad obviously makes you feel like you're using a PSP), internet speed is great, battery life is excellent (i use a battery saver/process killer, too), call sound quality is good, texting is sucha breeze, 3G and WiFi can be easily turned off, number pre-installed ringtones and alerts, boot-up and shutdown are fast (compared to other smartphones), the speakers are phenomenal, the phone's weight is good (I don't find it to be heavy at all).
I obviously recommend this phone. If you want a smartphone and the absolute gaming experience, all in one, the Xperia Play is the phone for you :D
