Exiting Txt on Front Display???

I know that we can read text messages on the front display, which I like a lot. I was wondering if anyone has found a way of exiting out off a message without opening the phone?? I had the lg 8300 and you could hit one of the front display buttons and it would exit it. But everything I've tried doesn't work unless you open the phone.

Operating System

I am a java programmer. I just realized (don't ask why it didn't dawn on me earlier) that many programs are written for phone in java! Well, the natural curiosity in me is screaming now to find a shell of the operating system, write a program that'll run in this environment, and then put it on my phone to prove to myself that I've done this. Here's the problem: I can't find what OS this phone is running!

Here's the questions:
1. What Operating Environment is this phone utilizing?

2. What shell is available to emulate this environment?

3. How would I go about getting the program on my phone once I've written them?

Thank y'all!

Thinking about the u740 on Verizon...

My new-every-2 is up in a week. I currently have the LG VX 8100 (which is the best phone that I've ever had), and am thinking about upgrading to the U740. Questions:

1) Is the keyboard usable on a day-to-day basis? I've looked at a few demo phones, and the keys seem awfully small (but on par with the sidekick). I think I can manage to type, but does regularly dialing phone number get cumbersome?

2) What's the durability of this phone? Is the hinge sturdy?

3) BIG QUESTION-do any professionals out there use this phone, or is predominately for kids? At first glance, I thought it would be a home run...I could make calendar entries via the web, send quick text messages when I am unable to answer the phone (meetings), and send ful...

Verizon..?

I'm switching from Cingular to verizon and I live near the city ( New York City). I don't know if the call quality is going to be good or if I'm going to have a good signal. I want to know if verizon is good. Any suggestions?

External display stays on while recharging?

I hate it! The external clock is always on when the phone is charging. I've scoured the manual for a solution, but no luck.

Anyone know of a way to turn it off? Or do I just have to deal with it?

not for me .. sell you mine cheap (black)

Ok this is a great phone however I just find I text more from just the flip than I do the side flip because most times Im doing it one handed and when your doing it that way the keys are just to small and confusing unless youre really paying attention .. I'm not knocking it because this phone was made to side flip for text Im just saying I cant seem to get used to doing it that way and Id rather just get a normal flip

I have a excellent Ebay feedback score but im trying not to go thru them see if I can grab anyone here first (ill give you my ebay info if you like)

I'm not going to recommend this phone to anynoee.

I've had this phone for a little over a month. At the moment, I dislike it quite a bit. At first, I thought it was really cool and practical. But it really isn't. The calendar isn't good at all. the keyboard is hard to type on and you're using the backspace key more than the others. Also, the hinge feels like it's going to fly off. At first, it is very nice and sturdy until daily usage. So, my question would be, since I passed my 30 days to return the phone, if I could get an enV ( or another phone) and go to verizon and activate the new one. might sound like a stupid question but I'm new with verizon and I heard they're strict.

Is the Dual Hinge Sturdy???

Hello,

Like the subject says... Is the dual hinge on this phone sturdy? I don't just mean when you purchase the phone, but after daily use does the hinge feel like it is holding up well? I text a ton for work, and for social reasons. I just want to make sure this phone won't fall apart on me.

Thanks for your time.

I received video messages on my phone and when i try to forward them it tells me that the file exceeds limit. Is there anyway around that so that i can send the videos that i received on my phone?

If not what is the limit and what are the other cell phone companies limits compared to verizon?

Thanks

IM on u740

How well does the IM work (using AIM) on the U740? If you have an existing IM account can you access that or do you need to set up a new one?

Alarm, can't dismiss after an outside mute

I have had the u740 for about 3 weeks, and after a few days I discovered an unforgivable glitch in the alarm... This is both the regular alarm and the one in the calendar. I am refering to it as a "glitch" because it is, and it is very anoying to anyone who demands a correctly functioning alarm. ...In a nut shell it is this; When the alarm sounds, if one MUTES it using an outside key, (which is the most common and logical thing to do) then we forfiet the option to DISMISS the alarm upon opening the flip... That is, when you open the flip you will NOT be presented with a screen giving you the option to DISMISS or SNOOZE. This means that the alarm will keep sounding every 5 minutes for the next 25 minutes or so !!!! UNLESS you go into the men...

External display questions...

I just got the phone yesterday and have a couple of questions:

Does anyone know if there's a way to have the time on the external screen appear in small fonts at the bottom of the screen? I used to have an LG 8100 and I had the option to display the time and date in small fonts along the bottom banner of the external screen, so I could see the entire wallpaper. With the 740, the external screen is already so small, so the digital clock covers the wallpaper and you can't really see the picture.

And how do you get the picture id to come up on the external screen? I set up picture id but don't see it come up.

Thanks!

recording options

I have a question, I'm conducting a phone interview with a local band tomorrow, and was trying to figure out if I can record longer than 60 seconds on my phone, as I'd like to have a digital record of the conversation. But I can't seem to find anywhere to change the recording length settings. Does anyone know how to record a conversation on the samsung sch-u740? thanks in advance...
