Push-to-talk coming for the V551

per Mobiletracker:

According to a PowerPoint document on Motorola's website a push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) ready version of the Motorola V551 is slated for launch next quarter. The Motorola V551p supports the following PoC features:

Dedicated PTT button (Left side)
PTT client Release 3
Ad hoc Groups
PTT Contact list with presence via Icons
Push to View Phase 1 (under evaluation)
PTT over Bluetooth
And at least according to the early picture available in the document, the V551p will come in a slick black finish. However, the picture is not a photo and was marked as not complete. A T-Mobile logo is featured on the bottom of the handset (though strangely off center). Large copies of these images are available b

ATTWS 551 Voice dial

Hi, I read the reviews here and decided to get a v551 through a ATT business plan. Nice looking phone. It's got battery issues, like everyone said, so no surprise there. But, am having a problem with the voice dial feature.

Some names, it connects fine. Others, it refuses to or takes something like ten tries. Anyone experience this, and if so, figure out a solution?

I am sort of missing the simplicity of my Nokia TDMA. Sigh...

Phone # for bluetooth

I'm not sure if I'm asking the right question but I have a HP IPAQ and I'm trying to use the bluetooth on the phone as my gateway to the internet.

The IPAQ is asking me for a phone number. Did I do something wrong?

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Bluetooth file transfer help

Hello,

Until recently I had no problem connecting via bluetooth and transfering files to the bluetooth exchange folder. Recently I will try to send a file and it will connect, transfer the file, and at the very end it will say "Failed, Connection Interrupted" and it will be unable to move the file.

I called Motorola and they said I should go buy Mobilie phone tools at a nearby store. I don't buy that b/c I was transfering files with no problem before. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Black Screen

I've had my phone for about 2 days and after about 5-6 minutes the phone's screen goes black. I've turned off all the settings that could be causing this but it didn't help, the screen still goes black. This is annoying because if I am in a conversation for more than 5 minutes then the screen turns black and disrupts the call...anyone got any advice???

V551 Coverage Mystery

I was on an AT&T GSM plan using a Nokia 3595 phone for about a year. Our home in the foothills of Colorado does not have the greatest GSM coverage, but I could almost always get enough signal to make and receive calls from my home on the AT&T Wireless network.

In November, I migrated to Cingular and eventually purchased a Motorola V551. I also purchased two V220's for my wife and son. All three phones seemed to have decent coverage at home for the first week or so, but all three are having major problems now. None can make or receive calls.

Trying to isoloate the problem, I unlocked my Nokia 3595 and popped in my Cingular SIM. Guess what? Three bars of signal and no problems making or receiving calls.

So my Cingular SIM works...

V551 & Bluetooth

My V551 phone is recognized by my Windows XP SP2 through Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter, and they are even paired o.k. However, I still cannot transfer files.

I talked to a techie at Belkin, and he said that I would need V551 mobile phone tools by Motorola. All I can find is a combo of USB adapter and Version 3 tools. (I don't need another adapter.)

Is there anyone out there successfully download/upload pictures and share addresss book info between PC and V551 without Motorola mobile phone tools software? Or can you get a lite version for free by any chance?

Thanks.

Getting MP3's to your V551 without being charged...

Once you get an MP3 from the Walmart site or any other site, where on the Cingular page do you paste the URL to upload to your phone to get it to your phone for free? Or is there a different way to get these to your phone for free?

compare vs Sony T637

I'm still in my 15 day trial with the V551. Has anyone used/owned a T637 and can compare features like ease of use of bluetooth, calendar/organizer features, signal reception, overall impression between the two phones.

Thanks

On the V551, is it possible to make & answer calls via bluetooth

with the phone closed? Thinking of switching to this phone......also, anyone know if there is a bluetooth headset that tells you who's calling before you answer? That would seal the deal for my wife.....

Next to Worthless V551 manual

Anyone tell me why Motorola would produce such a worthless manual? I consider myself somewhat computer literate and it has taken me over a week of trial and error to get this thing half way programed. Thanks to this site and a couple young fellows in the Cingular booth at Wal Mart, I have managed to get most of it figured out.

Address book organization mysteries!

I cannot for the life of me figure out how my phone is organizing its address book. Almost all the numbers of businesses (the Acura dealer, Apple computers, United Airlines, etc.) appear at the top of the list (in alphabetical order), and then, after they're listed, come all my "people" numbers in alphabetical order. The strange thing is that there's no correlation, in other words the United Airlines number isn't listed as a "work" number, just a "main" number, just like Fred Schmenge's number is listed. Looking at the details there's no difference in any of the parameters, yet somehow my phone knows that some are businesses and others are just people. And I don't want that; I want to be able to see all the numbers in simple alphabetic...

Categories and RingerID

I was just wondering...I know you can set personal ringtones for each entry in the phonebook. But is it possible to set a ringtone for an entire category? Like all the ppl listed as "VIP" get a certain song..etc? or what is the purpose of the category function on this phone? I'm really confused. Thanks.

Thanks, but no thanks

Came over from Sprint, tried the v551.

All in all, Cingular network seems pretty good, but lots of dropped calls, voice quality not quite so good as Sprint CDMA, and incoming callers always complaining that they were getting all circuits busy messages.

The v.551 feels nice in one's hand, and has tons of great features. But all in all, the interface is too complex, and most of the cool features I would never use anyway.

So, I'm heading back to Sprint and a new Sanyo phone (Sanyo, IMHO, simply sets the standard for quality and performance in handsets - the menu is simple and elegant, and the phones work better than any I've ever used).

Not complaining here - the Cingular folks were very professional. I'm glad I tried it.

V551 Speed Dial etc.

1. The V551 has pretty much one of the worst manuals ever written. It simply doesn't cover a lot of essential stuff.

Could anybody explain the fundamental difference among SIM, Phone, and Fixed Dial numbers? My guess is that the numbers in the "SIM" are accessible even when you are out of service area, but you can't make any 1-digit speed dial.

On the other hand, the numbers saved in the "Phone" would not be accesible when you are out of service area, but be able to make 1-digit speed dial. Am I right or wrong so far?

What the heck is the "fixed Dial" then?

2. The manual says to press down the voice key to record, and I can't find the voice key anywhere.

3.
