Palm Treo 650 (GSM)

Some very gifted people (chief among these, "Shadowmite") who happen to have some very appropriate and specialized skills have miraculously been at the right place at the right time to help each other accomplish something quite special.

Just last night, (Dec 15, 2004, about 11pm EST) they managed to hack the T5 (a PDA) driver released with PalmOne's new SDIO WiFi card so that it will work, roughly, with the Treo 650.

The hacked driver is very rough at the moment, but the fundamentals seem to work!

Again, these guys have been working on this without the benefit of source code.

Got this info from Palm One's website..why is the GSM version slightly different than the CDMA version??

The camera takes 16-bit color pictures that are at a maximum VGA resolution of 640x480 pixels (0.3 megapixels), or 320x240 pixels in QVGA resolution. Videos are 320x240 in QVGA resolution or 176x144 in QCIF resolution for CDMA smartphones and 352x288 or 176x144 for GSM smartphones.

I thought there was an FCC mandate that all new phones are required to have E911/GPS capability now.

None of the Treo specs I've read say anything about built-in GPS capability. Am I missing something, or are the Treos?

The GSM carriers are testing the device for their networks right now so it should be soon after the Sprint exclusivity expires.

Does anyone have any idea when Verizon will offer the 650?

Any word on when Sprint will have this phone for sale?

the 600s are crap for reliabilty. i hope the 650 improves upon this. i wonder how much they will trickle onto ebay for. id imagine at least $500.
