Nextel iDen .vs GSM and CDMA

Currently using nextel(iDen technology)in Connecticut and looking to switch. Is this 700 on CDMA better than any other smart phone using GSM? Which technology is better? Thanks to those who know for sharing.

Work well as a PHONE this time?

Since the Treo 700W is out now I figured I'd ask...The 650 in my experience with it had severe reception issues, in areas where a straight cell phone had just barely enough signal to make and receive calls (without a problem despite the low signal strength in such areas) the 650 didn't get a signal at all.

Is this fixed with the 700W? I really really really hope so cause I want this device but not if it can't live up to being a good cell phone as well as a good handheld.

Accessories? Same as 650?

I read somewhere, I forgot where, that the accessories for the 650 would work with the 700W. is this true? Can anyone with both check it out and confirm?
Thanks

How 'bout it, When is it coming, who has the dirt ! ?

Alright, I'm a resident expert on many things, but I don't have inside access anymore. Who has a release date, with a degree of accuracy and I don't ask any question about sources..... 😈

So far so good!! user report/verizon

So i've been using one for about 3 days now. Its a very good smartphone. Its very easy to use good layout.

PROs:
EVDO high speed networking
1.2mp camera (kinda grainy but its a phone)
SD card slot
bluetooth 1.2
pretty long battery life
All that good pda/windows mobile stuff

CONs:
No built in WIFI. Wifi card steals the SD slot, so wifi data transfer is pretty useless.
Only 64mb internal memory
Small screen size compared to other models in price range
Locks up quite alot if you do anything memory intensive (due to lack of internal memory)

So far i have not found a way to DUN it. With either windows built in software i added to it, or pdanet.

If your a techno-geek that wants the latest and greatest smartphone, stay...

CF Slot

Hi,
I think I read that it will have a single Compact Flash slot on the top.

1. Is this an accurate statement?
2. Are there going to be any other slots?
3. Will this CF slot handle a CF GPS card?
3a. Will Windows Mobile 5.0 support GPS software/apps?

If 1, is accurate, does anyone know if you can use a CF converter to SD or miniSD?

I've seen a CF converter that will hold TWO different types of cards (17-1). I'm curious if this will allow you to expand the memory slot. Any discussion or thoughts would be great.

240x240 display rules it out for me

That just seems weak to me. The palm os version has more screen real estate I believe.

Input Methods

Does anyone know if it will have any handwriting recognition or graffiti as an input feature. Microsoft usually does but I don't know on this phone.

Favor

If someone wouldn't mind, could you report on how well the phone holds up when you get it. Particularly if the phone crashes or soft resets randomly.

Thanks

over in the "Three New Treos Coming Next Year" discussion:

Stability

I hope that these new Treo models provide more stability than the current Treo 650 GSM model--periodic crashes, screen freezes, etc. Palm and Cingular know it's a problem, but Palm refuses to recall it. Instead they just keep making useless updates that don't fix the problem. It is the most unstable product that I have ever used next to Windows Mobile 3 smartphones.

The Treo is a great product when it works as it should, but it doesn't more often than not. Hopefully, the email with BlackBerry Connect will be better than the Versa Mail, as well as better handset volume without having to purchase third party applications. Faster key response would be a plus as well.
