Samsung SCH-A990

Ok work pays for me to have a Cingular phone .. I didnt want to delete my Version account because everyone I know has that number so I have the 990 on that

for cingular I have the D807 .. both by samsung both claiming they use T9

I can add words to my D807 but can not find out how to on the 990 .. I can not believe that you cant .. if thats the case i think its utterly stupid

on my D807 short cuts like lol xoxo and brb are already included .. I added a few cuss words lol and such but on the 990 they dont even have those .. I mean who in the world doesnt use lol alot ..

has anyone heard about a way to add words .. or if there is a upgarde comming soon that will add words and or allow us to

I am new to Verizon and just purchased the a990. I was wondering how do you access the secret menu and what is the code to do it? I found the code somewhere else on here, I just wasn't sure where to type it in. Thank you.

Verizon is going to come out with a phone with a better camera than this one any time soon?

There is a software update out there for all of your a990's. It upgrades your software version from ZD18 to ZH07. This upgrade is very worth it, as it makes the already quick menus INSTANTANEOUS, organizes the Camera options interface better and activates Voice-to-Text during text messages.

It takes about 15-20 minutes and all VZW stores are able to do this update.

On the profile it says "music player". What exactly does that mean? what music formats can it support?
AND most of all...is it a pain in the rear to put music on other than the V-music?
Please help this could determine if I get this phone or not.

i have many 30 sec clips in my sound folder stored on my micro sd, but they are not reconized by the phone and if I put them in my music folder, there is no option to assign them to ringtones, only listen. What can I do?

What You Need:
-usb cable from Music Essentials Kit (the one for a950 works)
-bitpim
-audio editing program (easy to download for free. just look around)

Read around the forum and enjoy.

My method (read later if you are having trouble)
1. add a file then find it in your phone
2. for the files after those: add it first
3. click on a different folder (going out of folder 18067)
4. then record a sound (doesn't even hafta be one second)
5. exit "My Sounds" from your phone
6. click back to the folder 18067
7. delete the .qcp file (it's a bunch of numbers like 2343985345.qcp)

With the SCH A-990, I see you can use recorded sounds for rintones, but can you use shortened MP3's for rintones?

Let's face it, no one wears watches anymore now that we can just look at our phones. But while I am on a call, how can I know what time it is? The only way I've come up with is putting the person on speakerphone and then shutting the phone and looking on the outside. Is there any easier way?

(Also, is there any one-button shortcut to silence the phone but have it still vibrate?)

Hey does anyone know if these supports for wireless stereo can be added in during a firmware update?

Right now, you need these two profiles in order to use wireless stereo headsets (bitchin'), but unfortunately the a990 doesn't have them (bummer). I was hoping someone knew if support could be added after the fact, in an update or something, or if the phone will never be compatible.

I read somewhere that verizon might change the NE2 to NE1 if anyone else has herd about that please let me know what uve herd.

The reason i want to know is because right now i got the LGVX6000(I no its an old phone) but im going to upgrade to either the LGVX9800 or A930 but if verizon changes the NE2 to NE1 then ill just get the A930 for free and in a year get the A990 when it goes down in price beacause im not about to pay 250 for a new phone.

Any info would be helpful, so please let me know.

What other features do I get if i decide to upgrade to hties phone? Also didn't the 970 had an software upgrade?

If you have an older version of the phone (less bright screen), can you go to a Verizon Wireless retailer and get it swapped free of charge?

And would you have to save all your information (contacts, pictures, sounds, ringtones, etc.) or would they transfer it over for you?

I finally finished my perl script which breaks my complicated event recursions down into series' of static events and makes little tweaks to summaries and such, but when I went in to upload a year's worth of events, I discovered the 100 event limit! Is there any way to bumb that limit up so I don't have to update my phone so frequently? I have on average 5 events a day, which allows me to enter about 20 days worth of calendar events. I can make my script only output 100 events, but it'd be nice if there was either no limit or perhaps a limit of 2000. I use the calendar on my phone a LOT.

Plus, as a side note, there's also a limit on the number of events in 1 day (😎. It'd be nice to be able to change that too.

I was having battery problems and have seen several other people in these forums with the same problem. My battery was only lasting 24-36 hours on a full charge with only one or two short calls, if any. My wife took my phone to a Verizon store to get a new battery, and they ran a test on mine and found no problem with it. What they did say however was that they noticed that I had the GPS locator on all the time rather than the "911 only" setting. Being a police officer, I had changed this setting knowing that if my phone was ever stolen, or even my vehicle was stolen with the phone in it, it would be much easier to track this way. Is it possible to change the homepage for WAP on the A990?

I'm hoping it is possible if I can get into the special menu, but as yet I haven't managed to do this.

This is a really useful feature to me, since I prefer to set my own homepage and not have to go through verizon's homepage every time.

Any idea if this is possible. On my LG 8000 I could go to th service menu and just change it there

I want to sync. this phone with microsoft outlook (calender). From what i'm being told there is no "data kit" for this phone yet. I have read on this site that there is but that person didn't response to my inquiry. Any one that knows if there is a kit available or if maybe one of the other kits for Samsung works on this one. I have found the voice mode option in the menu and have already trained the 122 words. I watched the tutorial, but still cannot find out how to actually use it while sending a txt message.

Has anyone been able to synchronize contacts over BT with this phone? Knowing that VZW has a hardon for crippling BT, does anyone know if at least this feature works?
