UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache

My wife and I both have 6700s with Alltel. They work fairly well after the the ROM update. However, we are having considerable lag time from the time we place the call to the time it starts ringing. Also when ending a call it takes quite a long time to regain functionality. Anyone has seen this or have any suggestions on how to speed up the process? Thank you.

Can this phone be used as a modem to surf the web AND at the same time be used as a phone? I've heard you can't do both at the same time on Verizon. I've also heard the same thing from a Sprint salesperson. Can anyone confirm?

Is there any way to enable a picture as a screen saver?

My husband and I both have an XV-6700. The Bluetooth keeps turning off on my phone. It does NOT happen to my husband. I have talked to Verizon Tech's and to the manufacturer, but no one knows why this is happening.

I shop alot and go in and out of stores and I have a theory that alarm systems in certain stores cause this to happen but can't narrow it down. (My husband doesn't agree with me.)

I really want this problem resolved. We have tried soft resets and even a hard reset but the problem continues.

Does anyone know of or have a method of locking the phone when in ones pocket?

I've tried Mortsaver which locks the screen and all buttons except the "Answer" button.

I then upgraded the Phone's S/W which has built-in screen and button lock.

When using either method, whenever the phone rings and as I am removing it from my pocket, I inadvertently press the not locked "Answer" key thus forcing me to take the call before I can look at the caller-id.

There must be a way to shut down all key until a sequence is pressed ... even to answer calls.

I am looking to purchase the XV6700 in a week or so but I want to surf the web on my wireless network, however, I will not be purchasing the data package.

Is there a way to use WiFi without having any data plan and without getting any data charges???

When reading the training on the 6700 it says that the customer is charged text messages if the phone alerts the user of an e-mail when using Microsoft exchange server. How can this be avoided?

Also, the customer will have the ability to edit file attachments such as excel documents and word documents right?

when I push the power button on top to keyguard the phone (this is what you do as far as I know) I put the phone in the case on my belt. Whever I get a text message or have activity on my phone it seems to unguard the keys and call the last person I talked to. This can be extremely annoying as they can hear everything said in the background crystal clear. How do you prevent this, I've played with all the settings I saw...please help 😳

She has a data plan and I do not...

She has had nothing but trouble with this phone. I think she just doesn't know what she is doing..

Anyways she just hard reset her phone and got this error...

Error Code: 37

Miscellanous Erroneously Mobile IP Set up occurred

And yes the word Miscellanous is MISSPELLED on the phone....


Anyone know what this error implies..

I upgraded the software with the new ROM update from UtStarcom and the registry edit to remove the pop up message saying the text was sent does not work anymore. How do I remove the annoying pop up message. Anyone know.

I'm trying to get Yahoo IM running through WIFI, would love it if there was a version of GAIM, for cross IM platform that I could run my yahoo / AOL / MSN accounts all under one app.

Is there a reg hack or contact setting to change the default listing from Last name, First name to First, Last? I looked but cant seem to find it, if it is even there.

I'm a heavy user for calls and moderate for internet. This is my first week to leave the Samsung i500 at home for the ppc-6700 and I'm adapting well with one exception.

About 15 times a day, it takes me to Windows Media Player and prompts me that it has found my storage card and asks if I want to search it for audio & video files.

I have a 1 GB SanDisk mini card and as far as I can tell, i'm not even bumping the card so I can't imagine the phone thinks that I've just inserted the card or something. Sometimes it happens while the phone is just sitting on my desk.

Is it happening to you? Any suggestions??

is it possible to connect the xv6700 to a MAC laptop? i do have the MS student/teacher office mac software on my MAC G4..

I have an HS820 headset that I used with my v710. Is this compatible with the xv6700 for VZW? I've got an xv6700 ordered and in the mail and I don't know if I'll have to buy another headset.

Is it possible to do the voicecomand through a bluetooth headset if your purchase the MS software that other have been talking about?

Or does the voice command not work through the headsets?

I have heard its impossible to make calls 1 handed with this phone and you have to open the keyboard up. I would find this annoying especially while driving.

My other question is reception, dropped calls, and call quality. How does this phone perform? I wan a reliable phone. I know its a PDA first, but the phone must be reliable for me if I am going to purchase this.

I am considering purchasing this phone in the next week or so. I currently have a Verizon Air Card for my laptop and was wondering if I could use that plan with this phone as well. Does anyone know if Verizon will allow two devices to share one plan?

however after i hit reset; it asks me for a unlock code which I don't have?
