What's this Google Switch?

Google phone? Any info on it?

Almost got the iPhone last Friday but last minute decided to stick with my Bberry. Worst case, I can try it in a couple of weeks and see if the lack of EVDO is worth it. I love the phone though...been hooked since at least the Keynote.

Possible Correction re: WPA Access

Great review. I bought an iPhone on Friday, half figuring that I'd end up returning it, but I've really enjoyed it so far.

You mentioned having trouble accessing Wi-Fi hotspots that weren't Apple... well, I've figured it out, but it seems to be the quirkiest aspect of using this phone. FIRST, go to Settings... Wi-Fi. Look at the name of the secured network you want to join, but don't click on it!

Now, click "Other" at the bottom of the list of Wi-Fi spots. Type the name exactly as you saw it on the last screen (including capital letters, etc.), then click "Security" and choose the correct method. Now your password will be accepted, be it WPA, WEP, ASCII, Hex, etc.

This sounds hard when typed out, but once you've done it once it is e...

SIM Card in IPHONE

Has anyone taken the SIM card out of the IPHONE and tried to use another phone with it? I want to be able to insert in in my Blackberry Curve in certain instances but not sure if that work.

New photos added: YouTube, outdoors, photo offloading

I wanted to point out that we added a few photos since we first published the review.

Most interesting is the side-by-side comparison of YouTube over EDGE vs. YouTube over Wi-Fi:

https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/review_iphone/in ... »

It's pretty dramatic! Clearly they encode the streams at wildly different bit-rates in order to get smooth playback over the very different speed connections. You can even see the texture of the white paper in the background in the Wi-Fi version, while over EDGE even Eric's thumb is just a blur.

We also added a couple of photos showing how great the display looks outdoors, even in direct sunlight:

Returned my two 8gb models today. My OS X v10.3.9 isnt good enough. I have a power PC800 G4.On 06-29-2007 when we went in to buy ,we asked about the requirements/ specs. The store said after your purchase you can play with our display and look over the specs and requirements. (Nothing posted.employee's to busy to answer any questions.) Apple wanted me to spend another $130.00 on OS X v10.4. Then $190.00 on a DVD drive to install the OS X v10.4 on my Power PC800 G4. When they allways tell me to upgrade every other ox. I have v10.3.9 .

Browser comment/GoPhone

In response to your comment about Safari always going to the desktop version, it does that on my Samsung i730 too using Picsel Browser. I wanted the Gmail App so I went to gmail.com/app and it took me to the desktop version in which it said to go to gmail.com/app on my mobile browser! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ Frustrating!

In the activation section you have a picture with a GoPhone SIM, can you use prepaid on the iPhone? How would data work?

minor issue...

There's problem in the part where you perform a speed test streaming a YouTube video over Wi-Fi after having loaded it over the EDGE connection. You loaded the same video.

Thats was an innacurate speed when it loaded. Since the video had previously loaded over EDGE, it stayed on your browsing history, and so when you streamed it over Wi-Fi it didn't take long because it was already loaded and played to begin with.

Everyone Who's Disappointed, I Have Good News!

I met with my buddy from Apple for Coffee today, I told him I loved the interface, and all the great subtle little features it has that makes it so easy to use. I then told him I really, wanted a File System Access so I could store files, download images from the web, and generally carry around data, not just load it up from iTunes..

He said Apple IS absolutely BUILDING this, and it will come in a software update no later than when Leopard ships in two months (there will be updates before this)

Here is what he said:

* There will be a build in file browser like the new finder in leopard for sorting through files
* There will be a disk mode
* The reason that there currently isn't a file browser + way to save files from w...

Apple iPhoneโ€™s weakest link: AT&T; two days after iPhone launch, AT&T EDGE goes down

Cupertino, we have a problem!

iPhone users across the U.S. were complaining Monday that AT&T Inc.โ€™s wireless data network was down.

The network was down primarily in the West and Midwest, but by 7 p.m. on the East Coast, service was restored, according to Warner May, an AT&T spokesman. He said he didnโ€™t know when the problems started.

AT&T had isolated the problem and was still working on it, he said.

Voice and text messaging services remained fully functional but EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) and 3G services were down, he said. While BlackBerry users had full service, users of other phones in addition to the iPhone were also affected, he said.

โ€œThe iPhone was not the cause,โ€ย he said.

Several different onlin...

24 hrs later and still not a working iphone in the house!

๐Ÿ˜ณ After hours on hold with ATT neither iphone works- one phone I can at least LOOK at the menu and features but I cannot call or receive calls and the other one I can only dial 911- I cannot do anything else!! Unreal, ATT sure blew this one, talk about poor planning... After dropping over a grand for 2 phones this is so disappointing... Why in the world do they lock it down so you can't do anything- not even view features prior to activation?

Won't buy IPHONE until........

1.Insurance is available. I was all set to buy this phone, jump ship from my provider to AT&T until I found out about the insurance problem, there is no way I can afford to buy another IPHONE if something happens to the one I purchase. ๐Ÿ˜ข

2. I wasn't going to be part of the hype and decided to wait until Saturday to buy the phone, so I go to the AT&T store and that's when another odd thing happened. Yes they did have phones no problem, but they also had a line, not to buy the phone, but to RETURN it and it was a long line! I decided to go talk to some of these people on the line and ask them why they were returning the phone, most of the cons listed in the reviews by people were the reasons. But the one complaint that took me by s...
