UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache

Thinking of getting the VX6700 for email usage. I want access to my personal Outlook folders on my office computer, so Blackberry and Treo won't work. I am assuming I'll need to access my email through the web with Outlook Exchange server, as I would on a computer at a hotel business center etc. Can any of you tell me how this device would function for that kind of application? Will the speed and data transmission capacity from their EVDO network be sufficient to open my email account via Outlook Exchange server? Or will I have to find a wirelss hot spot? And what exactly is Verizon's broadband access? Have tried Verizon cust svc, with no luck-no one seems to know what the answer is.

Does this phone have Aim instant messaging similar to what the sidekick by t-mobile has?

Just cyrious. Just purchased through Verizon. Since they have the same OS...is it possible to make the 6700 today screen look like the treo 700(ie:voicemail tab...search...411)?

does anyone know how to get ring tones for the 6700?

Has anyone purchased the extended battery for this unit. If so, did it make a significant difference for you. Also, where did you purchase it from?

When you are on the internet.. And you click on a wmv or mpg, why cant i view it? if you download it, it does not give the "open when complete" option. but if you download and save, it gets saved as a non recognizable file. So far i have not been able to make it recognizable as there is no properties option.
Other than a few things i really like this phone.
Any advice let me know.

I just recently purchased this phone,, and while playing around with it,, by mistake I deleted the Wireless Synch program. I'm not sure how I did it especially since the manual on page 66 states that programs that came with phnoe ca not be deleted. Question: I s there any way to recover the program or install it again on the phone? Thanks for any help.

hey does anybody know of a hack or program that will work on this phone to make it run songs and videos downloaded from I-tunes? I got my girlfriend video ipod and she loves it but the only thing I hate about it is we buy songs and video that should be ours but we can only listen or view with Ipod or Itunes.

Has anyone heard anything from Sprint direct regarding any updates / addons to allow Sprint TV to work with the PPC? I got the new update installed and it seems likely there is something to make this more likely....

I was curious whats the longest video you can take with the 6700 if you have a 1GB mini sd card.

Okay, I found a Registry Hack that displays the GPS console. Though I've not had time to toy with port settings, etc. It may be a wild goose chase but I thought I'd put it out here for others to pursue as well. And perhaps one of us will figure out how to make the GPS active!

Change the HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Hide value to 0. (by default it's 1 on these devices)

Hi, i'm a newbie & thinkin about getting this phone through verizon. I'll just want the phone for regular purposes--(calls, and a few text messages now and then)-- I just like the phone's look and features. so, do i have to get the expensive data plan or can i keep my existing plan? please help guys, thanks

Okay, so I finally got my phone yesterday morning! I got on my pc today to install the needed software on my PC...it won't let me. It says that I need Windows 200 or XP to be able to install and run the programs. What should I do about this? I'll have Windows XP when I get my new PC, but that's about 5 months away!!

Ok, so I've been stuck on this for the last couple of days, and could really use some help with my Sprint 6700:

The problem that I am having is when I sync.

For a while now my contacts and calendar have not been syncing.

I get “ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop. Support Code:85010014”

I went through the trouble shooting and can not seem to find the issue.

I repaired ActiveSync then uninstalled and reinstalled it with no help. I even repaired Office.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I purchased the UTStarcom 6700 on Telus a couple of weeks ago.

When this phone is working it is brilliant. Unfortunately I seem to be requiring at least 1 soft reset from out of the box.

The phone is only running the standard apps and I have not installed a mini SD card. I am, however, a true power user though I try not have more than 3 or 4 apps running at once (though I have got up to 7 or 8 according to Settings->Memory->Running Programs.

What typically happens is I am using a couple of pocket MSN apps., e.g. Hotmail and IM. I may be writing and e-mail or actively using IM (which I leave running for long periods as this seems to be necessary for Hotmail to detect new incoming e-mail).

I just got this phone a couple of days ago. First thing is I LOVE the phone, absolutely wonderful. Couple of problems. When I TXT, it will send me a notification saying that it was sent, and i have to dismiss it, then i will get a TXT saying SUCCESS, now i dont want that, It's basically sending myself a TXT, and i was always check it thinking its another txt, any of you know how to get rid of that? Another problem, I used ActiveSync to hook it up to my computer and was able to load some songs on to my phone, only like 4 because i dont have a memory card yet, I can only open them with either the TCPMP app that i downloaded or the Windows Media Player, when I go in to Pictures and Sounds and then look for the file under My Music,...

Is it possible to assign the speaker phone on/off to a button on the phone? When I go into the menu bor button assignment the speaker phone on/off is not on the list. Is there a way to do it? thanks, Bill

The new ExpressCard coming out on the Sprint network will give EVDO access to laptops, notably some of the newer Dell and Toshiba units, as well as the new MacBook Pro. It is listed as a Rev A, up a step from the current Rev 0. Should run smoother and a little faster as they get implemented. (The next version of OS X will have the drivers built-in)

Does anyone know if the firmware on the 6700 can be upgraded to take advantage of the code rewrite? Can the Rev 0 firmware version on the Sprint 6700 be upgraded to take advantage of the improvements that come with Rev A?

Or does it make sense to wait until new units come out? We are looking at buying a couple but can wait if the usage will be better....

We have several Audiovox XV6700 cell phones with unlimited Internet access data plans. I successfully configured one of them today to be able to use the CDMA USB Modem driver to connect to a laptop.

However, doing the same set up on a second XV6700 I ran into problems. When attempting to run the WModem program on the PDA phone, then using the CDMA USB Modem Dialer, I got a combination of errors:

On the XV6700 I got this error from within WMODEM

Error code 37
Miscellaneous Erroneously Mobile IP Setup Occurred

and on the notebook PC I received from the USB Modem dialer applet:

Remote access error 720

What might be causing these problems? Has anybody encountered them before?

We have XV6700 phones on the Verizon network, and have the data plans where one can use the XV6700 phone to access the Internet. Can one connect the XV6700 phone to a laptop and allow the laptop to have internet access in any fashion?
